i think you have to be blind or deluded to see the team have failed this game at a deep seated technical level since day 1.

the beta excuse worked for a few months and I was supportive, but the fact this shit is still going on has eroded any faith I had.

if you can't render 8 players on screen in 2018 after 18 months of release in a simple arena shooter you screwed up.

In fairness, its not really sync's or tim's fault, these problems are technical related. blaming them is like blaming the character artist, but you can't really blame ESR for shitting on it.

Clearly they have made like 20 games on idtech (Rage, Wolf, Doom, Quake) with some game release basically every year since forever on idtech.. but not here with QC.

I dont understand tho because its their own in house engine - like they already have working netcode, menu systems, console access, dedicated server binarys and all that stuff so the only work is to do like new levels and textures and movement and shit. Yea there is the cost to pay dev's to do it but arent they doing it already, on saber.

Saber devs are likely cheaper because they are in Russia, and there is the currency conversion. A quick and dirty google just now tells me software devs in Russia get paid on average about 17k USD as opposed to 104k in the US. It's probably similar for the graphic artists.

The id devs with knowledge of id tech 6 have probably been tied up working on another project.

So far as I heard who tested game its smooth engine with good netcode.. its already better then qc.

I dont believe diabolical will hit 6 figure daily highs, but I absolutely believe if the game is made in the way a modern quake game ought to be made, complete with new and innovative public features, entertainment while waiting for mm, skins, tons of maps,enjoyable game modes - the whole cream filling for both veterans and newcomers, it could be at least 3x more successful than qc (10k or slightly more daily highs).

I want so badly to see a proper afps to at least take the first step into pleasing the quake enthusiasts and newcomers and prove once and for all what I suspected all along, that afps although not popular is still highly worthy of an audience. All it needs is a correct platform, packed with support from devs and love for its fanbase.

Qc was never going to come close to hitting a home run. The devs tried to force a bad product into the spotlight. They knew the engine was trash, that veterens would puke at first sight of it. They played it like it’s a new game, a new concept knowing all along they copied ideas elsewhere and have no actual money or faith for their product. Cheap and disfigured is how I would describe qc.

I’m a quake purist, not a specific quake purist. Every quake had its own personality, but they all shared a solid game engine with a console and tools the community could contribute with. Features that would eliminate the alienated feelings and allow the game to flourish more so. Again it’s not going to instantly compete with mainstream titles, but to get some footing should be the first goal at this point.

Agree with everything you said! Honestly, all I want from diabotical is a few populated servers in every game mode going at any time of the day in my time zone. I think 5 to 10k players would be more than enough to accomplish that. I already know the gameplay will be solid and most likely include everything on your list.

and the Eggbot concept was made as a joke, but the community actually loves it!, so they went with it

imo the model is a good idea, because they stand out from the current FPS games (other designs are too generic) and the consistency between the hitbox and the model (what you see is what you get)

No matter how stupid it looks, it's the perfect solution in terms of hitbox. Gameplay > all.

Imagine the comments if gamerkids from today shot at a bones model and get hits in the invisible part of the hitbox.

You have to sell the game first so it has a chance to convince people with the gameplay, and design is a huge selling point if not the biggest.

I think kids and others who wouldn't normally be interested with quake-likes can even be appealed to the design. I'd understand if some people played just for the customisation and playing around with making their own eggbots and stuff like that.
