Yay! Another Battle Royale game in the sea of Battle Royale games.

Game developers lost all ideas it seems.

But this one is good! It sucked me like q3 18 year ago. Former BR hater here o/

From what ive seen:
-Another battle royale clone
-Too much dependent on teammates
-Classes
-Abilities
-Shit tons of bugs
-Origin
-Counter intuitive HUD and the whole loot system
Conclusion: no single inspiration to try it out

I played some games yesterday and it was actually fun!
Super smooth, great look, classes fits perfectly and engages teamplay. I didnt play fortnite/pubg but this game let my heart jump.

And the best thing is: it will take the remaining qc players away :>

If you really have to play a BR game, this is the one to go with, IMO.

It has more action than other BR games, faster paced, smaller starting population (60 vs 100). Moving around is a lot faster than in the BR games I've seen so far.

Getting to weapons seems quicker. There's more ammo available, I feel.

And most importantly: runs smooth as feck.
I get like 60 fps in BO4 Blackout, slightly more in PUBG - everything set to low. In Apex I get 150+ at all times. Just amazing.

No idea how they did this. But QC should've went with this engine for sure.

Sadly, it is still BR, and there's very little action compared to a full server of FFA in Quake obviously.
But its OK to play with your mate(s) - in squads - until Diabotical comes out.

Two things I'd like to address in your post :

1) Ammo is actually pretty scarce when you factor in the way your inventory is made + the ammunition it can take to take down a whole squad. Your ammo takes a lot of place in your backpack and you often have to make hard choices between health/shields/utility and ammo. It is not a downside to this game in any way shape or form though, it's actually a good design imo.

You could go into a fight with 250 ammo of any auto/semiauto gun and by the time the fight is over be at 0.

2) How the heck do you get 60fps in blackout/pubg and 150+ in Apex ? Many people struggle to get a consistent 150 fps in open areas. I myself get from 100-150 depending on where I am. Could you be so kind and share with us your setup + settings ?

Well that happened to almost all noticible mp fps games for a first few months after release,starting from shootmania, dirt bomb, doom, reflex etc and ending up even with titles like toxxic to some extend. Doesnt actually mean they would actually stay there after first wave of hype is gone

thats the destiny of every game but I think apex will keep up slightly longer. EA is a huge company and they wil put lots of money in it to keep it great (I still hate EA due FIFA games)

Fuck these realistic hit-scanes modern warfire weapons, spells are so much cooller to watch and - probably - to play.

Looks/Feels like a Halo + Fortinite + Overwatch with BR gameplay.

GFX all cartoony and childish . Map makes absolutely no sense asthetically.

Futuristic Fortnite/Halo weapons feel and movement is again childish

Voice overs are lame as can be and again childish - make QC voice over seem hardcore.

Copy BR (PUBG) mechanics but all childish and stupid in comparision.

Runs far worse than PUBG. First game I ever had to drop the resolution on my gtx960 to hold a decent framerate (sitting 45% cpu usage and 99% gpu)

Was a slight exageration to say "far worse" but its more GPU heavy than Pubg.

I kept standing in same place to check fps (with my back against the guy in training).

All lowest detail got 71fps at 1928*1080
Then got 85fps at 1600*900
Then got a bit over 100fps at 1376*720

So its heavily GPU bottleneck with my 960. It makes sense because its a couple years newer then pubg i guess but its the first game that ever made me consider dropping the res down.

There are a lot of places on the map than send me down into low 50's or even 40's if i run 1080p

Pubg also has some spots that can send you into 50's but 95% of the time im sitting like 65 to 100fps

I can only recommend PUBG of the BR games. It really is the original and does it right. I was really into the Arma2/Dayz gameplay which is the inspiration of PUBG. You can see all the elements from Arma2 pulled into PUBG and just streamlined with a smoothed out engine.

Its a good gameplay style. Very relaxed where you can afk and get a drink mid match and no1 will care, try to outsmart opponents, make tactical descisions with the enviroment. You can rush peple with a uzi, or snipe from 400 meters. Guns are all semi realistic with bullet drop yet also tweaked and balanced to make good gameplay.

The other BR game are just copys, mostly with heavy Team Fortress/Overwatch cartoon inspirations. Not my thing.

Used this guide to edit cfg file. Went from 63 to 81fps.

No longer getting 40 to 70fps

Now I get around 80 to 140 most of the time - can still be mid 60's in some places but not as often or bad as before.

nothing exciting happens for days and then you die in a roadside IED explosion. Game permanently freezes for all time, with zero possibility to respawn, reload, restart etc.

Your talking about basically my two favorite games Arma2:Dayz mod and PUBG.

Yes Arma2 is not even truely a game its more of a Sim. PUBG is Arma2 inspired towards an arcade game (like the difference between Asseto Corsa and NFS maybe?)

If you ever played Arma2 especially back on older hardware you know it runs like shit and is more about simulation and accuracy than it is about frames per second and smoothness + fancy gfx and other "generic" video game traits.

The gameplay was there but the engine lacked from an "online game" standpoint with Arma2 (again it was a sim)

So PUBG came and did much of the stuff from Arma in a more arcade like and accessible way for the masses.

With PUBG - The movement, gun physics, control layout, way you toggle 1st/3rd person, way you click into ADS. Map, vehicles, looting, Scenery, Parachuting and on and on I would think of more stuff in time - its all inspired from Arma

I call PUBG the original because where was BR before PUBG?. It did not really exist on a mass scale until PUBG. It was a simple idea in plain sight that made billions - but no company went after it.

The closest was H1Z1 when sony owned it and were producing it as F2P- they saw the popularity of Dayz mod and thought there was a market for it - then they chickened out and sold H1Z1 to some1 else. People said H1Z1 was an underdeveloped EA cash grab when it released

Point being that before PUBG made idk how many billions $ nobody else was in or trying to be in the BR market.

All this strafe jumping, rocket jumping, magic powers, energy shields, laser guns and (the worst) building houses while being shot at (fortnite) is fine in the right context. But dont put it in a game thats about Ghille suits and Sniper rifles and laying in a bush in the woods with a gun - yes I do prefer PUBG for my BR fix.

Netcode? I only really know of a few games that let you shoot people from 500meters away over the internet. Battlefield, FarCry (the first one), Arma and Pubg. There are probably more idk COD? All these games get accused of shit netcode - thats what it seems to come down too when you do big maps and long ranges.

I remeber Farcry 1 was such a beautiful game when shootouts happend +50 meters, but anything closer than that it would seem to break down. Same with Arma2. BF4 and PUBG not so bad but still i think thats just how it is. When shooting at people from 200 meters they can warp all they want its still only going to = 2 pixels across your screen. I dont find it that bad anyway. When I die up close its usually because they used an uzi and i tried to semi auto them - not anything to do with lag (unless you insist to get in a shootout within the first 30 second when the server does choke up a little)

PUBG definately is a little cheap and rough and I originally looked at it as another shit Early Access game I did not want to touch. Eventually I realised it is not going away and because how much I enjoyed (the now mostly dead) Dayz mod decided to get it.. Dont reget it. Its a game like nothing else and a game popular enough that im sure ill still get insta matchmaking 10 years on from now.

Maybe your point was they are not real meters - its all a matter of the game detail and so on - how many points exist between two points is different between game engines, and scale is different and so on.

People are quick to say PUBG is bad netcode, or Battlefield 4 is bad net code low update frequency, but where is the magical example of game with good netcode that I can compare it to?

Quake 3 has smoother netcode but the levels are small with max 16 players, not a fair comparison to a 8*8km 100 player server.

In a sense you are right. Mod can be like a game. Dayz Mod approches towards a game despite being a mod, where 95% of its content is Arma2 - but really its a mod. So is Q4max a mod, not a game.

I have insane mouse input delay, feels like im playing on a 50ms screen with a wireless mouse. Anyone knows how to fix this crap? I've messed with all settings so dont even ask about in game options, ive tried all.

For a test go into training map and drop resolution to like 1600*900 or even lower and see if its still feels laggy.

My 960gtx did not handle 1080p well which caused the mouse to feel shit, but its more of a framerate issue than a mouse issue.

Probably not your described problem anyway.

When I was hitting 100fps I did not feel any mouse lag.

i had it too, was gone since i deactivated that v-sync shit in the game options

vsync has always caused input lag

I have the same issue, tried various diff graphics settings...even dropping to lowest res and graphic settings accross the board so had good fps and still this shit mouse feeling, enough to make me not want to play.

The first BR game with some fun movement. Finally a BR game I can see myself playing a lot of.

Agree with most here - pretty good fun, movement is good and think in long run will have a decent skill cap, refreshing having played a fair ammount of pubg in the last year or two.

A bit confused about the very positive movement claims.
Observing Cypher's stream (he streamed it for 11 hours today) I see the following..

>walking = ~100ups
>sprinting = +5-10% faster depending on your hero. (yeah, it's a moba)
>sliding = similar to sprinting. (your view just momentarily shifts downwards and your fov widens).
>knife-equipped = ~150ups

As an aside, at least 80% of the "gameplay" is spent looking at the ground pressing E on shiny objects or carrying a giant tablet and restricted to 20ups.

It doesn't matter. If there are tons of people playing the game sooner or later you want to check it out and best way to gain initial player base is to promote through influencers like twitch streamers.

I saw k1llsen streaming it and he made it look hella fun, since it was free i decided to try it out and im impressed, its fun but u _need_ mates to play with

EDIT: Been playing quite a lot since this comment and i've been solo queueing like 50% of the time, which is perfectly fine unless your mates are below level 25 and has no idea what they are doing

fun times but it will get boring after a while if they don't implement new LEGENDZ with some cool abilities and add some more diversity to the weapons. Also needs another map.
