How can you tell without inside info what you can blame on SyncError? You have no idea who made crucial decisions that lead to the final shape of QC. He is just front man to the community but you shouldn't really blame him for everything because of that. Stay calm and move on.

its very obvious hes responsible for alot of the gameplay elements that has turned alot of people off from the game, and continuing to turn em off and never making a better game. old players, very skillful players, newer players that maybe started in ql etc., players that played during the "glory" days of DM like in the 90s doom to quake3 etc., and just a good game for new players to get into that's naturally fun. the current game just is not really fun (i mean its fun for players like me, because we really enjoy these games in general from having alot of experience playing them. but thats different from it actually being a good game, like say, some previous quakes. which of course, like too many others alredy have, i can just opt to play instead). it has some good ideas, but seems to be in the end not a very fun game for obvious reasons.

its probably the number 1 thing thats made it a failure.

i dunno the actual player stats or activity level in time, but it seems like there are more people wanting to play doom2 (zdaemon still has lots of servers) or even quake2 instead.

remember that when quake3 was being made, it was getting input from all kinds of players from different scenes, most of them were some of the best players in the world, with Thresh taking a lead role in the decision makin. this went on for a year when much of that world came together around the game, and it changed alot during the course of that year. at the time, Thresh was undisputedly proven as the best player in the world at quake2, and almost definitely the best at quake1, doom 2, and doom before that while they were most popular. his quake2 games still look like a world class player today.

zero4 hasnt been the best at anything in going on 2 decades. Not only that but he hasnt ever even done anything outside of quake3 (didnt play quake4 at all while the competitive field moved to it, didnt even play ql and just disappeared and was nowhere to be seen.). Actually i could argue hes never been best at anything outside of t4, and really only pro-tourney4 even. and no one else worth a damn that i can see is having a say in the game.

the whole thing realistically is mostly unsalvageable long term at this point (more of a money laundering scheme than anything). and we should be looking to reinvigorate other aspects that this scene has embraced, and that have made these games popular and fun in the past. SCAPEGOATING syncerror is so-2010 bullshit that ignores the problem and doesn't get to the root of it, might as well just blame all of current "ID" for incompetency as usual, OBVIOUSLY. this is not ql a decade ago.

im just wondering why everyone seems to keep ignoring the obvious name behind the game itself zero4, who also had the qw "experience" which the game is obviously heavily influenced by or relied upon when even just glancing at it. i know Romero would not have been given that kind of slack back in the day.
