Why are they paying hosting of the website for years if they don't bother with updating it even with the basic features it would need for 2018 gameplay? such as 16:9 huds and crosshairs?

I will repeat it once more: You spend a ton of time creating a mod, and are unable to make a simple update for widescreen friendly monitors, guaranteeing it can be properly played pretty much forever because we are never going back to non-widescreen monitors.

Because I need to be able to release it on the OSP website as an official update so you at least have chances that people currently running servers will notice and update their servers with it, otherwise it's pointless.

Apart from all the other good reasons given in this thread, it might simply not be possible anymore. Few years ago I asked for the source code of OSP for Quake II only to find out that Jason had lost the source code years ago. They wished they had better news but that entire project has been lost to the past. They wanted to get it up but never did. :-(

I don't know the exact fate of the Q3 OSP but won't be surprised if it got lost in times as well.

I don't see any cgame related stuff in the osp package. only server binaries. so you should be able to put your own crosshairs and your own hud with any modern quake3 port independently of osp. try it and if you get results I can host your fix on my servers for people to download

yes you're right, I didn't think about that issue. though you could modify your q3 port (using its source) into sending proper pk3 hashes but that would require extra work and hassle just for crosshairs. I'm out of ideas to help now, sorry :-(

It is possible, and assuming you know what you're doing would be pretty quick to do.

Q3 post GPL source release is vulnerable to this sort of cheat without some kind of 3rd party anti-cheat solution (which doesn't exist AFAIK) - just there aren't enough players to make it interesting enough for cheat developers anymore.

In my case, I have the code for an unreleased Q4Max build which has changes made since the last public release. Some of those changes are wanted by what is left of the Q4 community.

9 years ago, I probably could have pushed out a new Q4Max relatively quickly from this point. However now it would take a long time, and my time is much more limited than it was back then, and so it's something that is never likely to reach the top of my priorities list for long enough that it will get done.

You spend a ton of time creating a mod for the community that existed at the time and for the enjoyment of creating something. Not for signing up for a lifetime of support when you've moved on and got other more important things to do.

Well, you can always push it to GitHub or whatever even without brushing it up to a buildable stage, just to not let it die in times for various reasons. Interested folks with enough motivation and more free time might pick it up at some point. Open source is always good.

Alternatively, I'm fairly certain you can find people who'll play CPMA vq3 duels with you in the CPMA and tdmpickup discords, on the /r/arenafps subreddit and in QL. With duel, you have the relatively comfortable position that you need exactly one person who's roughly your level and available a few evenings in the week, and then you're basically set for eternity.

What are even the differences between vq3 and vql? 8dmg LG, 100dmg rail, different spawns on ztn, different aero, engine feels a bit different, and that's about it, no? Play QL (assuming you're on windows).

Well, for starters, Q3 doesn't have microfreezes at random times unlike QL.

Beside the fact that nobody plays CPMA VQ3.. QL is a clusterfuck of stuttering problems. I've had microsecond total freezes which leave a gap on the constant green line on the lagometer for years, they never fixed it, and I know a lot of other people reported it.

There's also the microstuttering when changing weapons if your binds contain different sens, crosshair values etc.

Then there's the dumb ass new lightning engine which makes some maps insanely bright which force you to tweak the "r_mapOverBrightCap" value everytime you change maps.

Also the physics suck compared to OSP. Funny how people have forgotten how weightless it felt to fly around the map in OSP compared to "correct physics" of post-OSP era.

4) Some gayshit stuff: is it possible to make ur letters in nickname with html code colors? So far i only found the way to colorize letter shadows with ^Xffffff thing

4) yeah, it's pretty simple. 9 numbers correspond with different colours and before you type a letter you have to hold shift and press 6 so ^1N 1=red 2=green 3=yellow 4=blue 5= light blue etc. So if you wanted an all red Nofri, you would type ^1Nofri or if you want different coloured letters then ^1N^3o^4f etc

Thanks man! Are you sure Keel is still the best? Cause i think its a bit bigger then actual hitbox since those are smaller compared to QL so many players used sarge/pm instead back in the day, but mb i remembered incorrectly or misinformed
Ah and another thing! Is it possible to keep LG beam more or less closer to default on higher picmip values? Cause on anything >picmip 3 it gets "flat", too wide and less noticible for me

Keel never did me wrong but you could experiment with both keel and tankjr and figure out which you find more appealing.

I have absolutely no idea about lg values myself, I normally play on default settings anyway, try asking around here a bit more, there's tech geeks who knows way more than I'd ever know.

Client can remotely crash OSP server, that's all I can say.
