Best fight I've seen. Man, I'm speechless.....

The way Fury dropped him told everything, I knew it was over when blood began leaking out of Wilder's ear, he wasn't the same after that and his legs were shot.

Wilder did good, Fury was just on form, everything was perfect he must've trained his heart out for that fight.

I'd love to see a final rematch with Wilder and Fury with both being at 200% of their abilities, would be some match.

I believe Fury trained harder for this fight than even the Vladimar fight.

Wilder is still an amazing puncher though, look back at some of those rounds, if he had've connected with some of those shots flush Fury would've been on his arse.

Fury was the best boxer by far that night though.

Wilder DID land some right hands, Tyson just walked straight trough them. He simply was at 60% in their first match, badly out of shape, untrained etc.

He looked even better than last night in the Wlad fight. He was faster, crispier.

I think that's still the peak form he's ever been in.

But he didn't need that to beat Wilder, especially because he planned on bringing the fire to him.

I frankly ask myself if today's heavyweight boxing is some kind of a sick joke.

So we have two enormously large individuals in there who look like they've never worked out on day in their life, with technical skills, speed, and power (relative to their size) not exceeding any decent amateur lightweight.
The reason they are where they are is because they have good endurance and enormous reach, so they can defend against and outscore and smaller, more skilled fighter. That's it!

If you want to see great heavyweight boxing, watch fighters like Ngannou, Overeem, JDS, ... in MMA and K1. That's a completely different level of striking.

Fury could've contended with the fighters in the 80's, not sure if he'd have beaten Hollyfield or Lennox Lewis but he'd have held his own for sure, his speed is unparraleled for his height, I've never seen a man that tall and weighing that heavy move with such speed. Tyson proved that size means fuck all, it's your dedication and fire that really determines the outcome of a fight.

MMA boys are hard as nails, but they're nothing compared to the level that professional boxers are at.

Boxers are more skilled in what is required to win in boxing - scoring points, more skilled / practiced in footwork, head movement, etc. And most important, top boxers tend to have the endurance to keep it up for 12 rounds.
McGregor vs Mayweather is a great example. McGregor was far more powerful, but Mayweather avoided, outscored, outlasted him.

Power, speed, precision is what's asked for. And that's what great boxers don't have, and the best kickboxing and MMA strikers do have.

I just checked the numbers. PPV buys of the first Fury vs. Wilder were below the average UFC card. The most bought HW boxing fights are still those featuring Mike Tyson - who ironically was the last HW boxer with real speed and power. People seem to realize that that's what's important in a real fight, and are drawn to it.

Could say that, or that do it the way you did for boxing, and list technical disciplines that are part of MMA. There's not much in the way of saying that power, precision and speed are somehow more or less important in MMA.

There's important aspects here as well. MMA has been growing in significant part through being a one company led sport, where the company is the brand (many people think they're watching the sport of UFC), the promoter, and in general likes keeping the credit to themselves. If a fight was awesome, remember that it's the UFC, nevermind the particular fighters, that sort of thing.

This sort of decentralization also means that boxing sportsmen have more freedom, bring in more money for the same numbers (a court case recently showed that the UFC gives the fighters a very small percentage of their revenue) and have to do the promoting and matchmaking themselves, which sorta leads to all this chaos.

The marketing / presentation in MMA has also been a direct answer to boxing, at times copying and at times adjusting, so who knows, that might be a part of it as well.

What I'm saying here is, I like MMA more too, but it's not necessarily gaining the popularity it is just because of it being closer to a real fight. It's still far off, for one thing, though it's certainly closer. And if being closer to a real fight as a function was what caused popularity for combat sports, we wouldn't see grappling do this poorly, or kickboxing, an old sport with deep traditions fighting for a sliver of the recognition and popularity that boxing has.

Real fights never get to the ground most of the time, one/2 punches end a fight.

Because of the element of surprise / sneaking up, which is certainly a huge part of fighting that isn't around in combat sports; or because the fighters aren't skilled, from which aspect we shouldn't criticize combat sports as "not real fights" as if real fights necessarily implied unskilled fighters.

Wilder kinda looked as if there hasn't been a day in his life on which he didn't work out.

Fury destroyed him, wasn't expecting it at all and hit him like a battleship.

the 3rd round was the exact same thing that happened to AJ against Ruiz, Fury knocked him with a massive shot which concussed him and left him not the same for the rest of the fight.

I was actually worried for Wilder, I've seen folk at my boxing gym go down in the same way and not get back up - hope he's alright.

Fury was just a much much better boxer, his speed, accuracy was insane and he is undisputed the best heavyweight in boxing right now with Wilder closely behind him.

Props to Wilder, he was prepared to die in that ring, I'm glad his side threw in the towel he was no match for Fury, no one in the HW division would be that night.

If Fury faces AJ then AJ loses, the only hope AJ would have is if Fury used the same tactics against him that he did against Wilder because AJ is brutal up close with his left hook and uppercut.

Update: the guy who made the costume pointed out it was 25 lbs, not even 45. Apparently a professional athlete and a 230 lbs heawyweight can't carry 25 lbs on him for 15 minutes.

Wilder just didn't seem ready. Even in the pre-fight footage of him backstage he seemed super anxious. Once the fight started he was going from looking lost to looking scared.

It was a great performance by Fury but the fight was a disappointment because it was so dominant. I think when you have two of the three best heavy weights in the world you expect a competitive match, even if it does end in a knockout.

There was never a time where Wilder looked legitimately dangerous.

First 2 rounds he looked dangerous but he wasn't expecting Fury to come running to him and hounding him.

I might have to re-watch the fight but Wilder got hit with a punch early in the first and seemed out of his element after that.
