So the brackets have been released, and it's confirmed that it's going to be held in the IEM Expo Hall. The wording "main stage" also implies that it will be an actual stage with hopefully seats where you can watch from.
More details on how to watch on site would still be appreciated though (see my journal entry).

Anyway, it's going to be fucking awesome. There's even a losers bracket this time, so players who suffer from jetlag or lack of on-site practice and lose their first game will have another chance.

I think there is, but it's not publicized because I also think the QCL players get paid for every tournament and for streaming. I might be wrong, though.

Each of Rapha/K1llsen/.../Psygib knew what the first round pairings were, and they each chose of which pairing they would face the victor.

And they did that in the order of their rankings (Rapha chose first, and Psygib got the last one that was left).

In detail, it went like this :

For the place ? Straight out of the official news, I have unfortunately no further precision to add to that, I guess we'll see at the last moment where precisely in the Expo Hall it's going to be played.

If nothing else develops, only sure solution seems to be to start watching the streams, and then decide to go based on that. Since there's two streams, one for main stage, and one for off stage, I think we'll get a pretty good idea how it looks at the site.

The official news! Awesome for them to even post anything at all, and it's BEFORE the event! WOW! Maybe they haven't said a thing between announcing in October that it starts on Friday, and announcing this week that it starts on Saturday, but hey, at least they posted something, right?

But what if someone, a hypothetical person, actually considers investing $500 [1] in hotels and stuff just to have a chance to see rapha in person... and it turns out the spectator area is actually a projector on a wall, in a hall at that shitty expo with half the booths closed?

(Everyone knows Intel, the I in IEM, won't open their umm... that's not a booth, hey, isn't that a hall? The main sponsor of the fucking event won't show up due to the COVID-19 panic, so of course the media don't report who else will be missing, but I'm guessing many will follow.)

It gets worse than just lack of information! There was actual misinformation!

I was asking other Poles, whenever I met those in QC, whether they're going to Katowice, and:
1. most of them have no idea there's a tournament even if they live there (last week you saw Cooller with a belt when logging in to QC, this week there's no Cooller, but for the last month there should be Katowice on that carousel...),
2. EVERYONE who knew there's a tournament in Poland thought it's at IEM and the tickets are sold out for months. One guy told me he took vacation from work and then canceled it after realizing the tickets are sold out, and I'm like wtf...

That's the level of communication from these morons. Everyone (me included, but I cared enough to ask the ticket vendors) thought there are tickets for QC. Because they specifically said the next stage's finals will be at IEM. But they won't!

Ah you missed out on when they did some 2v2 tournaments. That was probably the most entertaining QC has been (or will ever be). The format seems to be vastly better than 1v1, imo.

Definitely check it out. It's now slightly closer to QL (though it's still QC), because compared to beta, the abilities have been nerfed a bit, and they changed the format from rounds to the good old 10 minutes time limit.

It's so sweet to see Awek flushing Nosfa 2-0 down the toilet, after last time they faced at lan and Nosfa did the "wipe the shoulder" jesture after defeating him, for absolutely no reason.

Not the best day for nosfa, in LB he met sib, who has just received a free lesson from professor rapha (+10 skill buff, obviously).

I expected much more from nosfa, when did he come to Europe, maybe he couldn't bootcamp for a week like some others Americans and is jetlagged or something?

He's just overrated. Only a year ago, the casters were raving about how he was gonna be the next big thing only because he had some close fights with Rapha or maybe even won some maps. He isn't all that, but he surely has the arrogance.

He played great when he lived in the US, and then came to LAN to show everyone what he can do.

Then he moved back home and played on 3-digit ping for half a year, no wonder his results weren't as impressive. He's clearly talented, just unlucky that QC shut down servers on his continent :/

Well, that's consistency for you. When he shows up at 100% he beats everybody. However, he has just done so 2 or 3 times in the last 20 years :)

the problem with av3k is that he can't deliver to the end and I want to support someone able to go all the way, like cooller, k1llsen, cypher and the other top names. Av3k and toxjq are the only ones who can make many upsets, play awesome until the semis or even final (like toxjq vs dahang) and then look like they have no place there and go out without a real fight.

Cooller: notorious for making it to the semis and finals and then losing. And no comment for his performance at this tournament, lol.

k1llsen: fairly consistent, I give you that. In Lucca though he was off, just didn't hit those rails and rockets. When his aim is off, he has nothing to fall back on.

Cyper: used to be consistent in QL, now with him it's just weird. When he played Rapha in Lucca he seemed like he was the one to beat. Then one match later he let Raisy run all over him.

Raisy: haven't seem him play a weak game afair. Very consistent.

Rapha: I've never seen any real change in him. Basically a machine. If none of the above show up at their 100%, he most likely wins.

cooller has deliverd countless of times and you can never count him out

k1llsen is one of the very few players who is not affected by whom he plays and in what stage. he will always play his game and he always has a good chance to win

raisy is consistent indeed. if his opponents don't bring their A game, they will lose

rapha is the best. I am a cooller fan, but rapha is best. actually, cooller always had much trouble vs him, in ql and qc and the times he managed to win, someone else eliminated rapha for him

I think it's more that he got into QC a lot later than everyone else and didn't put as much time and effort into it (Playing different games like FOrtnite, CS:GO, Apex Legends) etc.

If Rapha wins he thoroughly deserves to as he's put the most time and dedication into the game than anybody else, he hasn't even touched previous Quakes since he moved over to QC.

Funny how it was actually Cypher who came closest to beating him AGAIN, after he actually did it in Lucca. Just like he was the only one to consistently take it to him in QL.
Rapha puts a lot of pressure on his opponents, and Cypher is the only one who seems consistently unfazed by it. Too bad he's so inconsistent with his game and overall state of mind these days. He DOES still have the potential.

I watched those games the other day and it's remarkable how close they were.

Oddly Cypher seemed to be the only one at that tournament that could've given Rapha a run for his money.

Cypher vs. Rapha at Lucca was really a blueprint on how to play vs Rapha. Rapha likes to pressure, surprise, demoralize his opponents. In Lucca, every time Rapha acted brazenly, Cypher was cool as a cucumber and punished him for it.
On dm6, Rapha always moving in for that sneaky rail shot, and always getting one in return, was just so beautiful that watch. And since Rapha doesn't really have anything except his audacity, and Cypher had better aim that day, Cypher won.

Now you made me look up the grand finals just to confirm. I see no difference in aim to the WB final. Like 40% rail maybe (they didn't show the stats)? Nor do I see aim superior to the other players. The difference I see is speed, aggression, confidence, control. So no, he's not cheating.

On quake3/live he already was an experienced player when Zero4 mentored him, so it took him less time to go past that ceiling.

Congrats to Rapha! He was clearly the best player at the tournament. His aim was nuts. I only watched parts of the tournament but watched his full series versus Raisy in the WB semifinals. He must be using Kovaak's Aim Trainer or something because I don't think I've seen Rapha hit that hard before. Not only was his aim on fire, but his weapon choices were flawless in some pivotal moments. Even Raisy wasn't playing like normal when facing Rapha's aim. That game on Blood Covenant was absolutely disgusting, completely shutting down Raisy's monstrous Clutch.

Also, impressive results for a lot of the NA boys. And congrats to Base for breaking into top 3. The start of a new era?

Pretty shocking results for Cooller, K1llsen, and Cypher, though. They were all contestants for top placement, along with Raisy and Rapha. Weird to see them come up that short. Kinda like Rapha's last LAN result (knocked out quite early by Cypher).

To be fair, I don't think dm6 is a good map for Raisy's Clutch. K1llsen bullied him on this map, too, a few weeks back.
