For anyone who gives a shit, the simplest way to get a server up is use a Q2Pro server executable and put it in the same directory as your Q2 executable. Download here:

Then create a server.cfg file and put it in the 'baseq2' folder. Here's some stuff to get you started with your server.cfg file:


set dmflags 1024
set hostname "My Q2 server"
set deathmatch 1
set maxclients 16
set fraglimit 150
set capturelimit 8
set timelimit 10
set public 1
set stdlogfile 1
set rcon_password "123"
set allow_download 1
map q2dm1


Adding a map at the end of your server.cfg is important or the server will halt when you try to launch.

I also like to create a shortcut to the server executable, and in the target line add this launch parameter:

+exec server.cfg

Don't forget to forward the port (27910 default).
