No GTV?

I think we haven't use GTV for like 10 years :D People can spectate games on the server, watch stream or download demos.

Unpopular opinion:

tldr; ded gaem does not need seven map 2v2 league and ded gaem doesn't need new maps (no one likes them and no one needs them).

My general feeling on new maps has changed from even a few years ago.

While I definitely appreciated the effort made by people in charge of the CPMA events (cups, leagues, drafts, koth events, etc).

I think a traditionalist approach that the drafts have largely had of keeping to the core map pool have been the most interesting.

I thought that more maps, styles, flavors would ultimately make things more interesting but often it seems to be a point of frustration and almost like being forced to eat your veggies by a parent.

In such an insular community I think it makes more sense to stick to the core maps especially one that is over 19 years old.

There are over 16k maps on the Worldspawn Quake 3 map archive. Many of these maps are Defrag maps but only about 1,500 of these maps have more than 1,000 downloads.

People in Quake Live only play the same six clan arena maps even though there are all the same maps ported to Quake Live as in Quake 3 (this isn't true exactly but you get my point).

In CPM duel probably 90% of all duels are played on just cpm22.

Warsow had a favorite, Xonotic as well, Reflex with all the maps made by Tehace with The Catalyst becoming the cpm3a of Reflex.

Could we just stop experimenting with new maps? I think QuakeWorld is the few success stories in getting people to move away from the Big Five maps to something like Monsoon and Bravado and Shifter managing to be part of the leagues and cups but this is one of the big exceptions to the rule.

What is the role of vitriol (cpm32_b1) in this case for this 2v2 cup and new maps that are in beta to be released as the next official iteration to the cpm official maps?

It seems like flogging a horse to water each time. If people wanted to play new maps and they were interesting they would simply play them: end of story.

I think the result has always been the same: new map is largely dropped or ignored. New players or people who care to learn those maps choose them as random options to the frustration of people who want to play classic maps. At the end of the day the league and cup ends and no one plays the "new maps" of that month again, the skill ceiling of those maps stays "constricted" and no one really bothers to take those maps to the next level in terms of "meta."

I guess variety is good, variety is the spice of life, but most people don't even know how to play the old maps correctly.

Also there are always too many maps in these map pools. A trend no doubt that has been in Quake Live cups as well, there is no shame in just have the big three 2v2 maps to determine a winner. It would also take the randomness out of the game as well.
