Yes its a cesspool. Reddit for example, has become simply a propaganda machine. Every subreddit that theorically should be completely apolitical is spammed with political posts that get mysteriously instantly upvoted by bot farms to the top. But like, in the most retarded way! For example, a subreddit titled "pics", where the only submissions should be awesome/interesting pics, routinely gets spammed with some crappy Trump meme and insta upvoted.

They don't even try to be subtle about it.

And in every non-political thread there's always some insect that desperately tries to steer the conversation into a political one.

It's become a religion for too many americans. Ironically it mostly comes from one side of the political spectrum.

And unfortunately it won't stop after the 3 of november. Oh no, it's only bound to get worse.

What kind of content exactly do you want? news, discussion? also what language do you speak? There's probably a few tech-specific outlets with homepages in your country which will report/aggregate news specific to your and maybe bordering countries. There won't be much user interaction, i.e. it's limited to comment sections for articles which are usually trash.
If you want actual good user-contributed content, find a forum with tight moderation and ideally an entrance fee.

I am not interested in reading dry news. It's always been about the comments with me. l have no problem paying for access, provided there's a community there and they allow a chance to see what's up before you commit with money and private information.

other than slashdot I only go to german sites heise/golem or pc games hardware sometimes ... there is still ars technica for for tech news, but its prolly from US ... fun fact there is also still bluesnews.com from back in da day, u will only find that funny if u were there in the beginning ... anyway ... seems all things are now shifting towards youtube with all the money they can make via adds with the negative advantage for me that it takes like 10 times as long to get the news compared to just reading an article and still not understanding it as well ... world is not improving anymore really, its just about maxing out dumbification now and getting superficial glimpses

I too hate it so much when every tutorial is a video. I have to watch 10 minutes of blabbering about something that written with lots of spacing would take half a page top.

The absurd thing is when independent sites write "articles" about something and there's only the title, a headliner and a window with a youtube or proprietary player video under it. Fuck off.

The sad part is that most of the actual useful stuff can only be found on youtube now. The world is regressing.

I don't think it is too US centric. But the US are the biggest economy on the planet, so it's natural that a good portion of the news are from there.

Even moreso when it comes to technology.

OK, so I've been on HN since September. Pretty neat aggregator. It's very much what Slashdot used to be.

But man, it's VERY US-centric. I like it overall but daytime threads are much better before all the crazy fucks on the other side of the Atlantic wake up. Most non-tech threads are straight up horrible. I am now looking for a new thing.

So sad ars uk crumbled :(
