There are at least 2 ports of this map in QW IIRC.

The reason was: it had been reported that it had an devastating effect on Q3 players when they tried out QW, voted for their favorite map (dm6) and where confronted with QWs dm6 (stats say that 11 quit Quake forever, 4 went into drug abuse, 2 commited suicide and 1 became lead developer at id software).

Since dm6 could not realistically be removed from the game it was thought that at least dm14 should be there for those pure folks.

It's still stupid that you used a pick-pick system instead of auto-balancing the teams. I take a tdmpickup "draft" (in quotes because we never allowed actual drafting) any day over this kind of crap, where you not only allow, but actively promote such an imbalance.

Still love QW, still love Milton, still watched it all, but realistically, this is the absolute worst way to showcase QW to people. All I learned from this is that if you end up on the wrong team, your whole team will have less frags than a single player on the opposing team, 7 maps in a row. I'd rather play QC all day than such a game!

(I have played FFA with Bulat on the server and felt like that, but this really isn't what QW is about)

DM2 fullstart and not loosing control for 20 minutes is the pinnacle of AFPS.

Team 666 (Milton) practised, team 777 (BPS) didn't.
I guess auto-balancing fixes that too?

It minimizes the starting difference in both overall skill and recent activity/practice level per player.

The problem is more complicated than you make it out to be. No amount of practice can make a div2 team win 7 games in a row vs a div1 team - you actually need to have strong players in the first place.

Not to mention, when you have a player who can carry a whole team, practice is overrated ;)

Actually, bps said in the interview that he was trying a different approach and picked non-obvious players on purpose because he liked an idea of this kind of team. That didn't work out, not the end of the world (he seemed happy to have tried and I'm happy with him), but again: only from a casual spectator's point of view, not as interesting. You live and breathe QW so of course you're super excited, but for a noob it would need a different kind of commentary to even understand what's there to be excited about (not just "look, we got Milton on the server").

I'm glad I witnessed it, but I won't link this to friends saying "here, take a look how awesome QW TDM is", because it's just not the best showcase of the game. QW allows for real nailbiters, 100 frag comebacks and stuff. This, on the other hand, was not as captivating for outsiders.

Is Griffin still active? To me he was the best 1vs1 player ever to touch the game. So fluent and effortless movement and aiming, I could spectate him all day.

Funny enough, some oldschool players who have come back have also asked the same question :)
