I'm getting hyperx fury s to replace my old and worn qck heavy and will see how it goes, hope for something a little faster.
5mm cloth pad is great for comfort, that's for sure. There are still hard pads out there.

That Logitech G440 seems like a decent option after a quick glance.. Anybody heard anything good/bad about it?

If you are from the era of icemats and teflon tape, the secret is, that none of these new cloth craze is any good. Its all about having low static friction. That is what the icemat and teflon tape was made to provide.

Modern big mouse feet on any "gaming" mouse is designed to do exactly that, on wooden desks. That is the icemat + teflon tape of 2020

I'm not so sure about your reason for big mouse feet.

My take is, the more surface area, the less sinking of the feet into soft cloth pads, meaning less friction on soft cloth pads Thats the whole reason for big PTFE feet.

Why would it not have an influence on hard surfaces? Because gliding friciton is independent of surface area. It only depends on friction coefficient of the materials.

PTFE used for mouse feet is a material with very special abilities, it has the same gliding friction as sticking friction, so the consistent gliding ability depends 1. on the purity of the PTFE feet and 2. how sticky the desk surface is.
By making the surface area bigger it only reduces friction on soft cloth pads, not on hard pads.
