Can't complain too much tbh, there's still a vast number of games that have decent percent off.
Blizzard on the other hand, I was holding off getting WC3 Reforged because of the retardation that surrounded it on launch but the majority of stuff seems to have been fixed so I was going to get it on sale in the Blizzard Christmas Sale.
It's not on sale, it's still full price, 25 quid for a spruced up ancient game, no.
The Blizzard sale is just mostly cosmetic shit for Wow and some other stuff, pathetic.
I wouldn't buy WC3 Reforged either other than the fact that it's been patched and looks very good as you can turn the graphics back to classic, I agree with you though it's a shadow of what it used to be.
Never played AOE, was never a big RTS player but I'm currently learning Starcraft so I can play some other rts's at some point might give it a look.
Never played any Warhammer games myself but I liked Company of Heroes. Relic games play completely different to Blizzard's creations. Even Dune 2 had an interface that is more understandable by me.
Are you trying SC/BW or StarCraft 2? In any case, here's the premiere English-speaking channel for the games.
Currently playing SC + SC BroodWar (Kind of all the same thing but starting with the original) first, doing the campaign and also playing against the CPU because this is my first time trying to learn RTS and it's hard haha.
Listen, I have no desire at least as of yet to compete in any tournaments, it's going to take a very long time for me to be able to beat the cpu let alone a human opponent xD.
The Original Dawn of War RTS games are still ranked as some of the bes tever, even over a decade later it's still worth playing.
Actually it could be argued that life is a curse and your analogy is no different to being thrown out of a plane without a chute and being told to enjoy the journey. Before its interrupted with the realization of fear and death.
Sure, you'll hopefully see and feel some nice things along the way, but since when in life is any outcome where you die seen as a good move as the end result?
And that is the ONLY conclusion to life if you see the big picture.
It doesn't matter how good looking, rich, loved you are or ANY of the bollocks mankind cites as being a staple of a good life.
None of it would matter if you were not born.
Sure, you can argue that life will spawn future generations who will go on and create a space program or something and lead mankind to some new form of life where the realities of my current views are no longer relevant and life then evolves to.
Living forever.
Never feel any pain.
Being economically secure, warm, safe etc where everyone you can enjoy life 24/7 living it large
Then you have an argument which I would not disagree with, but life in its current and foreseeable form, is not good if you see the big picture. And best of all, we have shrinks to tell us these train of thoughts make us depressive, miserable, unbalanced, warped but I know exactly where my White ass is coming from.
If we fast forward our evolution and we obtain the above, or there is a continuation/excellent quality to life and my points are nothing more than the fear a bird must face when leaving the nest for the first time then fine.
Realistically, I can only base my views on the imminent time frame and realities the median demographic face.
We're all fucked.
Your only hope is download your brain onto a machine and live there.
Or, hope someone discovers a new planet, which just change anything.
This wall of text is so dumb on so many levels it isn't even worth deconstructing it piece by piece.
It's the classic "woe is us" argument of every pimply assed 14 years old that's just been left by his first girlfriend, or any mid 30s nerd that's done fuck all in life and now claims life is meaningless and worthless.
(But even you don't really believe that. Never trust a nihilist that hasn't killed himself.)
Only because you fucked up and managed to get nowhere after 40 years on this planet despite having all the opportunities doesn't mean life isn't worth living.
There are people -billions of them, actually- that never even had half of your chances and lucks, economically, socially and genetically, and lived a miserable life- and what's worse not even as a consequence of their own mistakes and passivity but too often just because of others: abusive parents, abusive coworkers, fucked up health, war- and still wouldn't say their life- much less life as a general concept- isn't worth living.
Hell, the world is full of people that would give anything to have the opportunities that you STILL have in your 40s as an obese unemployed shut in in a first world country.
So get up and start doing something productive, start giving meaning to your life, open your eyes and start seeing all the lucks you got, recognize them and be greatful for what you have- and stop being sulky for what you could have had in a perfect scenario.
Your "garbage" life is a dream for all the people that died before they could even reach adolescence.
Makes no sense to throw it all away just because you couldn't become a pro quaker when you were 15.
Complete BS. You're just a coward who can't face the truth.
Some turn to religion, some turn to drink or drugs, some turn to getting angry. But there is no escape from the truth that everything you feel positive about would not be missed or cared for if you were never born.
Unlike life, you're not going leave the world in the peaceful way you entered it with decades of opportunity and growth and no cognitive function to register the journey in, its going to be the opposite.
Your body and mind are going to fail and you're going to see it.
All your hobbies are going to vanish.
You'll need your ass wiped by someone on 7 bucks an hour or you'll have to get a relative to do it.
That's the end game here.
Along with one simple truth.
That your losses in life will come and that your joys, would have be irrelevant if you were not born.
Like I said, most people with regular intelligence are bound to the rules of their species, I wasn't expecting a conversion or great debate I was putting it down as a contribution to mankind.
Terror management, the ability of the conciousness to block out the terror of mortality is our friend and helper to function normally.
To succumb to constant thoughts about our mortality is a trap, not an accomplishment. It's like a disability.
The question how to give your life a transcendent meaning is ancient, why don't you read up what others thought about it? Many great people a lot smarter then us spend half their lifes philosophizing about it, I'm sure there are some answers fit for anyone.
Developing the singularity AI is within our life expectancy, if all goes well (as life is about chances anyways) it might solve all our human problems and we might become imortal, so there is that.
"To succumb to constant thoughts about our mortality is a trap, not an accomplishment. It's like a disability."
Depends on how you look at it.
If it was proven that in order for the planet to survive human population would have to be cut by 90% or all together, that would be a positive thing, Vs no one thinking about it and sleep walking into destruction and everyone and other other species suffering because someone could not make a difficult call because you called that insight a "disability".
I meant for an individual thinking about his own mortality, because that is terror inducing.
Thats a whole other can of worms you are talking about. I clearly pinpoint the reason for that in global capitalism or the human psyche in general. we cannot think as a species, we cannot even think as countries. we think as individuals or small groups like in the stone age.
In my mind only the singularity can solve that. humans can only reset by global destruction, like a fallout, meteor strike or a killer virus (hmm..)
"I meant for an individual thinking about his own mortality, because that is terror inducing."
Not really, you can make observations about yours or other peoples existence without being impacted by them.
I was merely pointing out, in life, if there was an outcome you could enjoy for a minute that resulted in death most people would cite that as a bad idea.
But life, in the grand scheme of time it is is over in a split second and that opting out to begin with (if a choice was possible) is not a terrible idea.
The idea to control the circumstance of your death is soothing. Noone likes to have a timer, most infamous for cancer patients. My father died of cancer after 10 years of struggling, while doctors estimated his remainiing time much lower, to about 3 years. This still makes me angry when I think about it, it's not the proper way to deal with death in my opinion.
I also like the thought of death coming quickly by accident. Extreme sports become fascinating and are eluminated in a different light when you bet your life on certain skills, which are under your control.
I think a cause for depression of many west europeans probably is the fact (not conspiracy theory) that western european societies will cease to exist and will be split up (or even better balcanized) into paralell societies of different ethnicities/beliefs, and the wealth will be erased ... for a long time western europeans were still the vast majority in their countries and they could somehow suck up all the negative effects, but the numbers are speaking against the west europeans and I think in 10 years at the latest this situation will explode ... when you think of it this mass migration, at least in germany, has been forced by the US or lets say certain elites there, there simply is no explanation to let millions of illegals who hate germany just come to illegally profit from social benefits or get subsidized positions over more qualified people at companies with too much money for "Diverisity" ... just look at France, this is the first country to implode ... the only saviour really is AI for this problem, so there is really a new world beyond belief, ethnicity, etc. ... but if it doesnt come in time there can only be civil war and I am not sure if these brainwashed societies can hold up much resistance to their demise
No national pride anymore, the common folk have nothing to fight for or excell for.
Back even a mere 70 years ago folk were proud to be from a certain country and would try harder to uphold things, doesn't happen as muchc now and is actively discouraged.
Also the way the media and society are doing their very best to make men into women, playing down strength and aggression to make us more placid and submissive plain to see. Not saying I'm the hardest man but I stand up for myself and don't conform to the new-age men bullshit I see parroted everywhere, toxic masculinity go do one, get in the ring see how toxic it is.
Real reason for the way things are is nuclear bombs, if there were no nukes and nothing of that magnitude countries would still be going to war to this day, many years of peace breeds weakness and I'm not in favour of war but that's a positive that it brings.
The less conflict and more prosperity, the lazier and weaker countries get. Look at this covid stuff, people freaking out going nuts over a few lockdowns, imagine if ww2 happened today, 7 years folks, no tv, blackouts everynight and people just got on with it, these days we all know how well people would deal with it now.
ha, it's been a good 20 years since my last encounter with Meshuggah. Don't remember there being much singing, though. Transitioned to techno about that time but metal still does it for me. It's got power.
butcher and lyne puzzle game made a good impression on me, for 1 $ ... :-) and there is also this deponia adventure game which I didnt try, though the other games in the bundle for higher prizes kinda suck imho. ...
well, I only buy bundles if there is a game that interests me, and normally the bundle is cheapere than the single game in the store, so I just buy the bundle ... normally up to 3 games interest me ... and its also nice to see certain game exists, I would not have found out about these games otherwise
Also bought Prodeus.
Not perfect. It's the unity engine + early access, and only had a very little time to play with it.... but I had fun, was money well spent.
Ion Maiden isnt good ...
Wrath of Ruin first early access release was good ...
but I just played two new levels and it sucks a bit, it just feels like repetition ... only good retro fps right now is Black Mesa
125fps has been enough to play q3 for over two decades now, and you can't go above 250 in it anyway. As for the Steam sale I bough worms armageddon for ~4€ and have had a blast spanking my brothers asses this christmas ;)
that game is really good and I would also recommend Thimbleweed
Park for an lucas arts like retro adventure game, both games are really good and not too long :-)
Ah ye lol. The only 2 games I actually bought in last few years were Black Mesa and Thimbleweed Park. Good shit.
Oh and also Doom Eternal... I just wanted to shoot shit up but was forced to wade through a load of forced intro screens and account-linking and special abilities and tutorial bullshit. Kinda boner-killing...
Bought re7 the other day for 20 and now its 6!
Bought the re3 for 16 though after contemplating paying 50, so could have been worse. Finished it in 7 hours so would have been pissed as these games all get deleted after I finish them.
A decent game, but not worth the price that I paid and the sole reason I stopped pre-ordering entirely. I thought it would be just as good as RE2 Remake, sadly it was nowhere near as good and so much cut content, very sad.
imagine being so insecure and shallow to submit to the predjudice of old stupid morons 'video games are only for kids'. you weak, pathetic coward, can't even post under an official alias.
its funny if u say u play a video game, people see that as a waste of time, but they happily talk about some series on netflix and that is ok ... and thing is they are constantly watching something on netflix, while you just play a video game from time to time ... to this day I never talked about quake in a workplace, and it is somehow sad I cannot really talk about this hobby, in which I invested so many years and build up considerable skill
I talk about quake and gaming at the workplace. ofc there are consequences of being labled as something your are not, you lose status in the eyes of certain people pecause of the predjudices they foster. part of growing up is the realisation that you diminish yourself and your interests if you cater to predjudice. I care what others think, because I care for people, but I am not willing to go to any lenghts to manipulate their perception of me. so fuck whoever thinks less of me because of my hobbies, they are small minded, not my problem
more than one make sense. the others aren't just excuses for me to run from what you said. your response was analogous to the simplest & most common entry-level examples of straw man.
i made a simple offhand comment and you've written a 331 word dissertation on your interpretation of its potential meanings, which is, ultimately, your own projected fabrications you're now presenting as justification for your rude and insulting behavior.
i will accept an apology, should you present one. i am not unreasonable, and understand that you've put yourself into an antagonistically confrontational position that you may feel pressured to maintain. we all make mistakes. it's human. i'm rooting for you, crea*! you can do it!
projected fabrications, right. I typed out my thought process, I even said so to start with. dissertation...of course. I deleted my comment because I took the time to write something a little more personal and revealing, but with no timely reply predicted this becoming a framing standoff and I would not get the worthwile reply I was hoping for. I'm confident I hit home here and there, but I cant force you to be honest or lower your guard.
my initial reply was over the top, also the part about anonymous posting was lame because it's totally ok to do so, just as added fire to provoke a reply. later I realized you are not some random but that daryl guy and you posting without account is for some specific reason. you can take this as an apoligy if you want.
there was a time in the past where I really enjoyed reading your comments and flamewars. too bad esr became the ghost town it is
you can type out your thought processes all day. i appreciate the entertainment. for somebody who is so consistently wrong (the "meaning" of my original post, what constitutes a "straw man", how many interpretations are possible, how many of the many interpretations are reasonable, etc.), it's impressive to see that you're still confident. i will be honest and lower my guard: there is no hidden meaning. the comment can be read at face value. i haven't played any video games for a while, i saw this thread, and i thought "imagine still playing video games". then i looked at the steam sale options and imagined playing them. i even almost bought ys 8 & ys 7, but i already own them.
i'm definitely not daryl, and i know a few people who would laugh out loud at that suggestion. we'll add it to the list of things you've been wrong about (but i won't use it against you, i promise). i'm posting without an account, because i prefer to post as anonymous.
I appreciate the entertainment as well! it's nice you know a few people who would laugh out loud at that suggestion [you are daryl]. maybe tell them, so they can have a laugh in reality.
sure it was a shot in the dark, how could I know with certainty, remembering an ip adress? lol... maybe vedic, then...
people often reveal much more then the face value of what they are writing. I of course reacted to the assumend underlying meaning, as well as the style of writing of the following replies. but i think im writing the obvious now. if there was none, whatsoever, not the slightest tongue-in-cheek, thats kind of a bummer.
oblivion
black mesa
fallout new vegas
salt and sanctuary
hollow knight DLC
super tennis blast (I just want connors tennis on PC with online support ffs...)
EPIC store is a little more generous they give infinite 10€ coupons for purchases above 15€ (probably the same in $). This makes for some nice reductions of already reduced prices
hades 11€
JK fallen order 14€
dunno what else is playworthy, I already have almost all good games on epic through their continuous games for free initiative
You are right, but I don't mind so much, they were 3,75 and 3€ respectively and I played them some beforehand so I knew.
Isn't it interesting though how some game almost don't age, be it games with nice pixel art, but also random games like the godfather Doom and Doom2, while others, especially early full 3D engine games age horribly! :D
Tbh early 3d engine games were terrible back then too. I remember many people questioned moving to 3d because of this, and some games resisted for some time. It was most obvious in isometric strategy/rpg games where you had beautiful 2d art or prerendered animations vs blocky, ugly 3d - visible downgrade. fps games didn't really have equivalent in 2d. But it was new hardware to sell.
I remember this time vividly and it was the exact reason I skipped the 'early 3D' console generation N64, Saturn, PS1. They had some okayish pixel graphics games but everything 3D looked horrible. Oh god the aliasing! It was just so so bad.
PC had fps, Doom, Duke3D, Quake (which was just lightyears ahead in terms of 3D graphic, even on software renderer). Even the PS2 did not convince me at first, but some later 3D games were already in the right direction.
This is also coming from a man who was a huge Bethesda fan in the day too lol. I love Oblivion but the game is so broken you have to install a million mods to make it playable and function correctly same with FO3.
Yeah artistic style is a big thing, if you look at for example Zelda Wind Waker, that game could be released today upscaled to modern res and look current but a game like Mass Effect looks insanely dated by today's standards.
But, thinking about it, if you were forced to play doom, quake 1 all of those old games at the resolution and graphical fedility when they were released it would be aids so there's something to be said for older games running on modern hardware updated. But no doubt there are games which even at their original res and what not hold up today.
art style is everything. if a game tries to be as realistic as possible with no clear art style, it will inevitably age much worse then a game that interprets reality in a certain way through the vehicle of art style.
this holiday season I had another run of both doom1 and 2, all episodes on ultra-violence - in its original, unchanged versions :)))
I love the originals in both the art style and nostalgic value, modern engines just dont give it justice.
There is something to say about low resolutions and pixels...they allow your brain to fill out the blank space. Quake all turned up to highest graphics, new lighting and stuff is just not the same as 640x480 pixel renderer. the same at a lesser degree applies to video for me, I can watch some stuff at absolute garbage quality and enjoy it the same as the blueray version, because one looks messy but exciting, while the other looks clean and neat, but ultimately sterile and nothing left to the imagination. both have value for me...
Just for whoever cares about Fallen Order - I returned it, because the Epic games launcher forces you to also install the Origin launcher, which just makes no sense. Im not installing some EA spy shit like Origin.
might get it on PS4 some day if its 10€
