I always enjoy such technical advancement.
But we will have to wait and see how good those panels perform in terms of input lag and pixel response times, for those very few edge cases where a game delivers and requires such high refresh rates.
Anyway, it is a step in the right direction.
No, I am done with LCDs. They're likely to ask at least 1.5k for this monitor. They're just scrambling to milk the market before the TV manufacturers manage to get any decent HDM2.1 models with low latency.
TV OEMs, on the other hand, will likely bundle best panels with the shittiest set of features: smart tv, mics and cameras... you know, "high-end" stuff. I am so fucking pissed with this industry
Really disappointing to me that these are using IPS panels, while its probably more comfortable for most people thanks to the better colours, I personally really hate LCD ghosting. The jump from 240 to 360 isnt worth it to me at the cost of extra ghosting and extra dallars, I will personally upgrade my 144 to a used 240hz for cheap now that 360hz are out and probably wont upgrade until they release either 360hz TNs, 480hz IPS or we move away from LCD.
I was told the new 360hz IPS panels like the msi optix g241 can compete with low lag TN panels. I have a viewsonic xg2401 and I was considering buying the MSI one because black colors in TN panels are garbage, however im not sure if it will be as good for Quake, but some dude here claimed the modern ones can replace TN panels for Quake.
Ill let you be judge for yourself but based on the picture below im not convinced by those ips panels https://i.imgur.com/FbpaNxo.png
They are prolly excellent if you play the popular slow games so they will be the future of screen tech from now on, but just like how I waited for TN panels to mature before switching away from CRTs, Im going to take my sweet time to move away from TNs.
This is very interesting thanks. I was wondering why there is no 360Hz using TN panels too. If anyone had a 240Hz TN and tried a 360Hz IPS I would be interested in listening to their opinion.
This is an accurate picture of 360Hz IPS vs a good 240Hz TN. There are but a few good 240Hz TN's that look like that (most of the G-SYNC ones and the XL2746S). IPS is incredible though, and in practice it looks much better across the entire refresh rate range. Unlike a lot of 240Hz TN G-SYNC panels there are no vertical lines, input latency is generally lower at both 60 and 240, and viewing angles / colors are awesome.
Hey NVC, what are the vertical lines you are referring to? Also do you mean the 360Hz IPS panels have lower latency at 240Hz compared to the 240Hz TN panels?
For Quake (for maximum performances) which is better? A good 240Hz TN or the new IPS panels? Which brands are best?
I got a 144Hz BenQ which I find very good, tried a 60Hz Asus a decade ago and it was terrible with bad blue light tint, I wonder if Asus got better on monitors since.
I guess he will reply months for now, he post randomly.
Im also wanting to get rid of myXG2401, i can't deal with how shitty black colors is on TN pannels, but at the same time I don't want any input lag, ghosting etc on Quake.

you can overclock the panel to these to 400hz or something to reduce the pixel persistence further, but this is like the highest nit brightness monitor i've seen. I guess they wanted to make it as bright as possible without skimping on the backlight strobing. But AFAIK it can only run with blur removal at 240hz,
still this wouldn't be bad with low motion blur and 1080p@240hz.
for some reason people want to buy my piece of shit for $1,500 when its blurry, 140khz refresh max, makes a tiny buzzing noise, takes up a ton of space and constantly emits heat ontop of it. And graphics cards got rid of analog ports 3 generations ago.
i wonder why the prices for CRTs are going up NOW that they are annoying to use and have alternative options
OLED could easily have better motion than CRTs, I have no idea why this isn't a thing yet but hopefully they come up with a manufacturing method for this so the gimmicks end
Im so fucking tired of not being able to watch movies or play darker games because of being stuck with a TN, but if i buy an IPS I dont want to be at a disadvantage in Quake.
Im going to give up on waiting for an OLED if next year there's still nothing and will go IPS 360hz.
