This was an awesome event. Some observers have commented that this put the QPL (or whatever its called - the Bethesda-sponsored event) to shame and I think that's true, but that sets a low bar. This is how a LAN should be in 2022. I'm not saying it's an easy feat, because it's not, but looking at what other communities are able to achieve, that should be the bar. Additionally, the event was pulled off in the spirit of true compromise given the inherent difficulties of the game and its limited functionality in pretty much every aspect. Everyone knows that QC is AIDS, and players and organizers generally understand that internally even though they can't openly admit it. But I'm glad that this event occurred because it shows that even in 2022 there is still a critical mass of Quake players waiting for a title to come along that they will take on and run with. Imagine if we had a title with the functionality and esports-readiness of CSGO. Imagine if Diabotical wasn't half-baked and we weren't asking questions 3 years later about basic weapon attributes for rockets etc. It's great to see a team of organizers who have that kind of vision - hope to see more from kuachi & gang.
