Quake III DeFRaG run on the most detailed strafe map of this size ever made.
This project was completed over the span of 3 years and it has been worked on in secrecy.
The goal was to publish it by the end of 2024 as this year in December, Quake III is celebrating the 25th anniversary of it's release.
The map was designed by IMOOR in co-operation with and tested by n00k1e. The base for this map was a much shorter, weapons-style version: DFWC2019-4. That map was then modified and expanded in every possible dimension and and what came out in the end, exceeded our expectations. The amount of detail on such a huge level is simply mind blowing and will hopefully be appreciated. Just this one map alone takes around as much disk space by itself as the whole original Quake III Arena game.
To give you some more context on how detailed it is, UNDERWORLD contains almost 3000 custom made models and close to 90000 brushes, compared to some Q3 classics:
Q3DM6 (The Camping Grounds) - 48 models and 2081 brushes
Q3DM13 (The Lost World) - 35 models and 1604 brushes
Q3DM17 (The Longest Yard) - 12 models and 456 brushes
So a huge shout-out to IMOOR for the amount of work he had put into this. His commitment to mapping is simply on another level. Making a clean, fast run and editing the video was also quite challenging and exhausting for me as well, but we have done it and we can now share it with you all. Enjoy!
