Silly how it has to be this complicated to just play a qw demo, it undermines the scene. Any how, how do I switch to first person view?

what's complicated about that? download client, install, watch.

buy quake, download latest patch, download qw latest patch, download and locate fuhquake latest patch (70mb), locate the command demo_dir and set it because demo player does not work otherwise, locate command cl_chasecam and set it. Play demo.

This is _far_ more complicated than it has to be, the more complicated they make it, the less likely it is to attract players.

It's all mentioned in docs, manuals, forum posts, tutorials, whatever. I wouldn't want to attract people who are still too retarded to find it out.

In fact a lot of QW players give a fuck about that since otherwise the QW scene would die. And FuhQuake or even MQW show(ed) that it's actually possible to attract players to a six-year-old game.

Why not, it's a great game otherwise. With my current settings the graphics in qw are actually better than those in q3, and the fps is twice as good.

Akshelly, I just read the instruction "How to play demos" here on esr and followed it. I.e. D/led FuhQuake, put demo in /qw map, typed playdemo (name). Had to copy the original paks from my QW though. It was a lot more hassle getting QW up and running trouble-free I can tell you.

Today it isn't that difficult anymore to set up QW so you can properly watch demos. As already mentioned in the demo-description:

Now compare this to e.g. Q3:

- install Q3
- install PR
- install OSP/CPMA
- put the demo into the right folder
- watch demo

PS: making it necessary to go trough the docs exquisitely protects the scene against some real n00bs :p

or install seismovision and click on demo file (and for many other supported games)

Using Seismovision would be pretty st00pid since it only recognizes QWD demos and the standard QW executables (no MVD demos and fuhquake/mqw executables).

i know, i meant that for q3 concerning ease of viewing demos. still, would be nice to see seismovision supporting mvd demos.

Of course everyone is a n00b at first, but there are two kinds of n00bs: the ones who try to deal with stuff like readmes etc. because they want to learn more about the game and the ones who ask dumb questions, talk senseless shit and spend most of their time on explaining how bloody n00bish they are 'cause they're afraid a more experienced player might disbelieve their skill after he raped them on a server (i meant those ones with 'real n00bs').
