q3 is the most enjoyable game to watch.. and much more popular than ut2k3 for example.. it has to be in CXG :)

I remember that the GTV guy said that the gtv server was full with 1000 spots.

and in the final there were almost 1500 people on the #.. whilist 2k3 didn't had more than 400/500..

the prob is that the game is recent and therefore there is more support from epic.. but if it was up to the gamers i think some games like ut1 or q3 would allways be part of big tournaments.

You are forgetting that there actually was something happening in #eswc.q3 with scorebots, while in #eswc.ut2k3 nothing much was going on.

but that doesn't take any merit away from q3 or ut1 for beeing much more exciting to watch and follow the irc reporters.. there is not much point at following an irc report of a 15min match that has 3 ou 4 frags in maps like antalus and even less exciting to watch at utv..

There wasn't any reporterbots for UT2003. So there was nothing to follow in that channel.

I don't agree about the excitement factor though. It is much more exciting to follow a close 4-3 game in Q3/UT2003 than a 30-15 match on ProT4.

Score doesn't really matter imo, all people want is amazing frags. I remember watching St_Germain vs ZeRo4 at la7, the matches weren't even close but came a great frag everyone was screaming =P

Some great promises, but the question is how much will actually be accomplished. Recon is saying exactly what any good businessman in his position would say. Often that happens to be hopefull bullshit.. but I hope not this time.

Americas Army is a piece of crap game btw.
Quake 3 has got more active players and is about 10x better in the sense for competitive gaming, skill demands and entertainment.

why would quakecon have difficulty with the q3 tourney? its not like they havent done it before ...

QuakeCon always gave a good impression with their tourney, it always seems to be well organisized, this is their 5th ? quake3 event, so, and the people who are the admins are pretty experienced. The most hardest and important thing is, having a good running GTV, FonFon made some very good and nice programs, for ESWC and QuakeCon. Thats gonna help alot for this event. The most important thing is, having a experienced guy from the scene as admin, as recon says, gamers are the most important factor, You have to be able to understand eachother in game matters, like the problems with mices/sens/server settings, and most important thing is, that the players know that they have a good admin behind them who knows how to run a tourney for that game. That the rules are good etc etc..

I am sure QuakeCon is gonna be a hell of an event, last year their coverage was perfect, I assume its gonna be again good.

If they want the best event, having Q3 would be a factor in that, seeing as CPL and WCG do not have it.

looking at the comments i see that people have become more careful about promises and statements in his interview. thats a good thing imo, keeping objective after some heavy deceptions around the CPL.

i think CXG is a good thing and will do ok. if they do as good as expected, they are going to outclass CPL within a year. my prediction :)

but see that they dont support halo probably because CPL has it exclusively, he doesnt say that straight in his interview but i think thats it.. nothing is black/white and if the companies that hold the rights for the games dont play along it'll be over soon ;(

For me, having "good relationships with … the US Army" is the same thing as being in league with satan. They might just as well have good relationships with that other devil, angel, for all I care.

At their forum I have made a post about wc3 2v2 tournaments or clan tournaments like we have seen it in Micromasters and Clanbase. There is some nice quick admin response to my post so I have caught their attention over there. If some of you are interested you could pay attention to the thread in their forums and contribute to the discussion, it would be nice if such a large event as Cyber X would support the 2v2 teams :)

Maybe I'm just in a bit of a pessimistic mood right now, but it seems to me that countless gaming organisers the world over are complete fucking morons.

The more I hear about Angel and the CPL, the more it reminds me of Tournaments in my own country where the gamers were never listened to, and sometimes exploited, treated badly or not given due prize money.

I am hoping to see Cyber X Gaming change all that but from reading this interview, it somehow seems like an empty promise. Recon's replies are far too vague to convince me of anything. I've grown not to trust people who refuse to tell me anything other than "wait and see". I've seen this happen so many times, and when I have a bad feeling about something, I'm not usually wrong.

Long live ESWC and WCG, and thank God I don't live in America. Not that South Africa's gaming is any better, mind you, maybe I should move to Sweden...

This will be interesting to follow, though since no travel expenses are covered by the qualifiers, the number of european teams will be limited. /NIRee

Somebody should dig up interviews with Angel from back in the day cause this guy pretty much sounds just like he did. Don't put too much weight on this guy's word, lot of the info was vague at best. He also didn't get what Carmac meant by the CPL and AvP2, basically that the developer was paying the CPL to run a tourney for them(unsubstantiated of course). Or he did get that and just chose to ignore it :P. The man is a smooth businessman for sure, beware!

Oh also judging from all the typos in his replies I'm guessing what he meant by "We fear that QuakeCon will have a problem running a Q3 tourney." really meant that QuakeCon would have a problem with THEM running a Q3 tourney. That's my best guess anyway because the statement alone doesn't make sense.
