Why do so few of you 'QW-movie-directors' try to make your beloved game look as good as poosible in your movies? Using some n34t gfx settings like e.g. these ones (and there's even a lot more possible with fuhQuake)...

DM4 - DM6

... would make your movies much more enjoyable imo.

This movie was awesome. It fits right on the shelve beside FDE I/II, DDE I/II. A great promotion video for QuakeWorld since it's not boring, it's smooth to look at, varried soundtracks and it shows soo many aspects of QuakeWorld.
IF as jebur suggests there would be any future projects, I wanna be the first to see the end result, that's for sure! :)

Uh, did you watch this movie?

It had some alternate models for all the weps, everything on fancy... the shots basically looked just like yours except for a slightly different hud..

Something tells me that you haven't watch the movie at all...

OK, I really don't want to argue about that issue 'cause I'm sure many of you guys would start posting total crap and lots of blindfold arguements.

But don't forget that, as ParadokS already said, this movie is meant to promote QW to the other gaming communities, aswell. So let's try to distinguish between two POVs:

- The QW player's one when watching this movie
- The non-QW player's one when watching this movie

QW player: 'Ooooh, this is sweet! My beloved QW now has 24bit textures, md3 support, neat particle effects, model interpolation etc.'

non-QW player: 'OMG these moves are amazing! Also, Quake looks pretty modern to me. However, this looks like someone just threw many different elements (like textures, models or effects) from different games together without thinking about if they're a good match...'

So, to make it short, here's a list of things jebur used which imo look cheesy:

- most of the weapon textures AND models
- the DM2 textures
- the lava texture (!!11)
- the HUD numbers and icons (sorry, I just don't like the ones that came with the 0.27 installer)
- the conchars

Oh, and the soundtrack could have been a bit better, too.

Don't get me wrong, this is certainly one of the better QW movies I've seen, but if I had to choose a movie to promote QW I'd still go with DDE2 (even though it doesn't have those GREAT new particle effect in it).

This post isn't meant to diss anyone or anything. I'm just giving you all some constructive criticism.

Tbh metal and rock is quake. I have always been a dance/trance guy myself but i wld not wanna hear it on a quake 1/2/3 frag movie.

Metal totally suits quake movies.

it's not somuch that I don't like the music, it's just that this kind of music has been used over and over in gaming movies, it only stays fun for so long :f

very nice movie, i think i saw about a third of it's footage from the original demos as well 8))

i don't like the weapon/quad/armor models and some of the (lava/water) textures he's using though, they're not faithfull enough imo. he didn't use aerowalk lits either, dunno if that was intentional. the music is kinda dull for my taste, but hey, that's taste ;)

but all together a very nice edited movie 8)


has anyone made a qw movie with ingame sounds yet? afaik not, but it sure would rock.

DDE3 will have ingame sounds, they had it at least in their 18seconds preview clip :P

Yes, DDE (Def & Dag Extreme). I highly recommend you downloading DDE2, it's the best QW movie out there IMO.

DDE3 will certainly NOT have any ingame sounds. The 15MB avi your talking about was just a teaser to show you how the video settings for the final movie will look like.

I love the new models for q1. Don't think they need to be faithfull as in big squared boxes. They look great.

I agree that the aerowalk textures sucked, but music was varried and not unbareble to listen to. Great edited, little too much effort went into making semi-good transitions from clip to clip, but else overall great movie.

Takes quite alot of work to fill out 23min without the audience falling asleep

i like the aerowalk textures though, use 'em myself while watching demos 8)

i liked:
- the action
- funparts
- clanbase final part
- small trickjumping part at the end

i disliked:
- music
- fde style name display at the bottom left
- transition effects between the scenes

enjoyable but not as good as fde or dde.

About the aerowalk-textures: those are the only decent 24-bit textures available for that map, and I felt more like using them than the low-res originals. And I dont think there is a lit-file out for that map.

You did the right thing in using these textures. They're surely the best ones available for aero. And no, there's still no .lit files for this map.

Yeah, tho the rockets are faster in QW, so it makes it a bit easier.

At first I thought I'd just rip out the bits I liked but I figured out that'd be too much of a hassle and just snagged ParadokS vs Goljat (dm6).

The best bit was dag's failure at that jump on dm6. Dag is probably the #1 QW player around and it was funny to see him make a fool of himself. :)

Mescon had only one chance to make the jump as well, or it would have ruined the demo. :)

They didn't though, that was from a genuine demo posted on chtv where everyone laughed at dag. :)

despite the music got to say this is a top movie, specially like the funny bits :)

Nice work jebur, the thing I liked best about the video was the balance it had between frags, tricking and Quake Gone Wrong; thought it balanced it well. Didn't really like the music (Offspring and Marilyn Manson in particular), but good effort overall.

On a side note, I'd like to see a 'Fragged by' QW movie appear: Fragged by Griffin/ParadokS/dag or someone. Maybe this player-promo type format would help publicise the qhlan tourney.

Wouldn't it be nice if ESR did a QW-tourney. :) Everyone can watch it because you can download the QW stuff for free and it would be far more watchable than the tourneys that are being proposed.

WC3 - Don't have, can't watch.

Q3 - I've been watching all the Q3 games for a while now and it was fun to follow the big names at first - but I can no longer watch a Q3 demo without quitting after about 4 minutes due to boredom.

UT2003 - No star players left to follow and it's the same sort of thing as Q3 anyway. Maybe a USA flamewar-tourney containing infinite and fatality would be quite funny though.

Both Q3 and UT2003 tournaments will be less interesting than ESO #1.

Although I suppose this is mostly a Q3 site so if there's more interest in YET ANOTHER Q3 tourney then that's fair enough!

hmm not such a good QW movie. the graphics are pretty bad compared to other QW movies - there are much better textures out there.

The soundtrack is ok. The scene are ok too but some are really annyoing and the movie is too long.

grr, another vid that's too dark. And that, I hesitate to use the word 'singing' in Rammstein, was he clearing his throat or something?

Some really neat frags, some funny bits. Nothing too amazing but fun anyhow. Some of the transitions could have been quicker.

i think this movie was a case of quantity over quality, it is possible to make qw look better still, quad glow for instance wasnt blended, you know what i mean? anyway overall ok, with some good and bad. get some pumping house/trance in these f*cking movies!!!!

Nice action, the editing, however, was very poor. It always looks tacky when a movie maker uses just about every single effect possible for transisitions, and no amount of good action makes up for this. There were no transitional scenes or features to move from one song to the next, very little music synch and I didn't like the music much either.

I can't wait to watch the movie. First downloaded it with the lowest Quality but I had to break at 2 min mark since it was unwatchable :). Sure I understand that if you've got a modem or something - go for it, but if you don't. DO NOT bother to watch it with the lowest quality!

Well, I'll stay tuned and report after the movie. The music I heard so far was great and I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to get more of these cool movies B)

Windows Media Player won't play this movie. DivX player plays the sound but no video. QuickTime plays the video but has garbled sound. I have installed the bundled XviD codec with the archive. What gives?

Figured it out. I had a codec conflict between 3ivx and XviD.

What video codec do I need to play this movie? Please be specific, I'm a noob.

It was some realy nice frags but I didn't like the intro. The rest was pretty good. Maybe not in class with DDE2 but a nice movie. 7/10 or something :)

imo it's a good movie exept of the music - if it would've used 'better' fitting music as in fde1 or 2 (can't remember now - the one with korn @ the beginning), the movie would be great!

hmm i thought this movie was great.... first thing i did was download the low quality one (due to irelands lol cap) and it was LOW quality :) but then a few days later i downloaded the proper high quality one, was worth the download. The movie is funny, and the textures in it are fine, its all down to personal taste :>only thing i dislike about qw movies is the fucking metal tracks that are used :) (die hard trance fan) other than that 9/10 !
