The alien doesn't seem to fit in there. The wall with the door, that doesn't have any reflections at all. It almost looks like a Half Life door.

What I find strange and at the same time exciting is, that they chose a rainy grey European town as the setting. And they really got it precisely down. I had childhood memories of me climbing on top of roofs of houses watching the video :-)

Yeah the city itself looks pretty good, but some textures are too glossy, reflecting or however you name that. Hope they have that fixed for the game.

looks pretty nice indeed, but I personally didn't like the shader for these shiny refflectations on the rooftops. if these would look a bit more real and less shiny, I'd be almost perfect!

Yeh i definitely agree with that. A similar effect was present in the Quake engine mod Tenebrae, the walls often looked like someone had just pissed over them as they had this very unnatural sheen to them. Almost everything else in the vid looks spot on though, so atmospheric even though it's probably just a map designed for demonstration purposes.

It looks like all of those sparkling surfaces are either made of metal or are covered by a layer of water. I don't think it was too shiny because a metal surface cover with a layer of water under direct sunlight does look something like that.

As soon as i Double-clicked on the file, i was already looking at the "Valve" logo, i mean instantly. No bumps... no lagging, just perfect during the presentation. Maybe it's my system.

With P4 Processors, FSB is the only thing you can OC, the multiplier is unlockable. I got this P4 2.6 for about 230€ at the time (in portugal), but if you search the web, you may find cheaper options.
If you're gonna OC the processor, better get an P4 2.4 Malaysian batch, cause they OC up to about 3.4 easily.
Just get Crossair, OCZ ou Geil for your memory (PC 3200 or better), they can handle the fsb OC pretty well.

wow this features... all effects halo had in it two years ago, on a console!.. pld. :D reflections, bump mapping, glows (look at the sun through the trees), shadowing, etc, etc although the depth of field used here in hl2 is in halo in select sections, and not ingame.. it's still hardly a new effect with several console games using it effectively. personally i found the ffects in the e3 demo were more impressive, especially the glass, water and camera effects.

still not sure about the cock-insect either... pray to god it doesn't spit!!

My favorite game before Quake III was "Redneck Rampage" using the duke nukem engine.
It was really fun to move in a "realistic" world, meeting somes peoples (opponents/aliens, chickens, pigs) like if
it was a real world, realistic environment, sound etc... opening doors in somes houses, to venture etc ...

But rofl, with Valve this so so real, omg, i really want to visite this virtual town, i bet with a
3d-glasses WE ARE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE MAXTRIX !.

Imo cinema & video game are now close, a new experience : to be the hero yourself.

maybe you had a point at the start of your sentence but you lost it when you said the gameplay of a game that hasen't yet been played by no1 will be leet.

I saw somes videos, and everybody was agree by the fact : HL2 was more gameplay, and Doom III was more a nice graphic technology.

But HL2 rendering is really impressive here, this is my "btw".

Btw, i'm completly blown away with HL2's graphics... IF it is exactly like in these movies, it has gotta be (IMO) greatest game i've ever seen, graphics wise. (even though the last time i saw anything related to DooM3, was a crappy E3 Alpha.)
I hope it can match up in gameplay too, that would really be awesome, but until i play the game, i can't say it's any better than microsoft's "freecell" :).

New Half-life 2 movie
A new movie has been released by Valve to showcase the DirectX 9.0 Effects of their Source engine. The 115 MB movie is probably the most impressive movie from Half-life 2 as of yet, at least graphics wise. It utilizes the self playing Bink video technology. Keep in mind that this is a completely new trailer, it is not from the E3 presentation.

My guess is that it's pre-rendered but in a way that it eats up your system pretty well, since i could watch it flawlessly, as opposed to other peepz that had slower hardware than me.
I say it must be pre-rendered cause it wouldn't make sense releasing this tech demo if only the DX9 cards rendered it correctly or with good image quality.

Blah... Nobody knows? There are huge letters at the beginning: HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE RENDERING. Use Google, find what this means (try for example www.openexr.com), and then you will know what you see :P
