Great group... period.

I went and saw Dimmu Borgir live the 27:th and they pretty much kicked loads of ass, even though a 40 minute soundcheck after the opening acts was a bit much.

As for great black metal bands... I really like Nokturnal Mortum a lot, but I have a hard time listening to them since I know some of the people in the band are nazis as well :/ Excluding ideology I think they are great though.
Either them or just go with Dark Funeral or something (Heart of Ice is an awesome song).

I saw Dimmu Borgir live last saturday and my ears are still ringing. The gig was so fucking brilliant I didn't even waste time on getting trashed until it was over. Puritanical euphoric misanthropia kicks ass, new album kicks serious ass too, stormblast is a classic but way different from today's production's sounds and the songs themselves. I'm can't be arsed to find out who's playing on which album, but I'm under impression that today's lineup is mostly a good mixup of old dimmu and covenant's boys.

In short, I'd go with puritanical euphoric misanthropia or the new album, but at this point I think it's fair to say that Dimmu Borgir production covers 95% of the music of my choice for the past six months!

hmm, i'm gonna get enthrone darkness triumphant then. and then stormblast. dunno about CoF. surely each album is different styles??? i'm looking for an album which gives you adrenaline rushes :D like some amon amarth stuff for example, but á la black metal

THen you should try Vempire album with CoF! The song [ Queen of Winter,Throned ] is the best one ever made!!

Definetely Stormblast and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant from Dimmu and Dusk and Her and Embrace + Vempire from CoF.

Get stormblåst. You won't regret it, but you better find some translations on the lyrics...they are good, not great but the melodic, part which is much more important, is worth so much more than just the CD. Sound quality is not the best but not complainable either. It is by far my favourite DB album and I have heard them all, own all albums except the ones from 99 and 01. The new one is very good too, I was impressed, so much better than puritanical euphoric misanthropia which was a good album aswell, would have been better if it wasn't for the dominant drums and that is fixed in the new one. Still stormblåst the best yea, you will get spellbound, not by the devil though, once you hear it.

Also was at their gig about a month ago and it was the best one I have ever seen...ok maybe except satyricon and red harvest.

OK tbh you should get Emperor, if you get their latest 2cd "best of" stuff you won't be disappointed.

And if you dislike Emperor get Immortal - Damned In Black.
