Don't think so. The cooller in this demo doesn't look like the cooller from ESWC. He missed a lot of important shots and his shaft looks REALLY weak compared to what he showed at ESWC. His tactics were rather weak, too. If he had played like that on ESWC, zero4 would have ripped him apart in a 2 mapper with scores like 20:2.

Very unlucky game for cooller in the whole from my point of view, lost the mh all the time when he decided to make it his,

The problem is that Z4muz was 999 (so that he can't move or shoot or any other thing because of network prob) when cooller kill him @ 12mn56, and this frag is the key frag of the match.

tbh.. z4muz froze when a fight was going on.. and if anyone was in that place there was no point of stopping.. u cant really think of it as a 1 sec glitch or a 15 min glitch.. and i think the lag happend cooller did kill but he got unsettled as well ..

Also if you use cg_showplayerlean "0" like I think cooller does, it looks much more like zamuz was just standing still, you wouldn't just stop firing if the other guy stands still for 2 seconds, would you?

The duel is like 'wrong' with that lag.

Would justice have been done if cooller didn't continue to shoot the lagged z4muz in that instance? Z4muz had considerably less hitpoints than cooller before that battle in the PG room began and z4muz's plasma was never going to be able to defeat cooller's LG at the distance they were fighting. If cooller had left z4muz alone it would have enabled the Swede to escape and cooller would have missed the chance to close the gap. It was really an impossible situation for the Russian - frag z4muz and be labelled a bad sport and a fortuitous victor or leave z4muz only to miss out on a frag he would otherwise have achieved. It has nothing to do with money either as in my experience the vast majority of players will continue to shoot at a lagged opponent, even for as long as several seconds when it is clear there is a technical difficulty (and this is referring to public servers and tournaments with no prizes involved).

Controversy aside it was an excellent match. Even if cooller was clearly a long way short of his ESWC best (too aggressive, timing was way off, LG aim was inconsistent), there isn't a time in recent memory where a player has come back from 8 frags down in the final of a significant LAN event.

Yes, you have a point there, although cooller probably wouldn't have gone anywhere near the central atrium if he was very low on health and he would've still had 2 minutes to get the 3 frags needed. It's irritating because a technical hitch leaves too many ifs and buts, rather than a game played without such problems where there can be no doubt as to who deserved the win. You very rarely see something like that happen at a major LAN so therefore the organisers have to take most of the blame for not providing reliable PCs and/or connections.

There was Soc vs fat on T2 from WCG USA 2002 where Soc came back from 11 frags behind but i don't think that was the final, the winner was merely guaranteed a place at the WCG. Fat then played cha0 on pro-t4 and lost that too in the final second, but it was a tight game all the way and didn't feature a large comeback.

yeah, t2. i'm not sure how i screwed that up, since i had just watched it minutes before posting. soc was down 11-2 at one point, and he won 12-11. it was the game with that insane combo, socrates and fatality both died, soc spawned, charged through the teleporter, grabbed both weapons, air rocketed fatality and finished with shaft.

I have mixed feelings about this game... Z4muZ was up 8-0 and could have played the game out if he'd run .. he still had a 5 frag cushion with 2 minutes to go... it SHOULD have been in the bag. The lag kill obviously got z4muZ pissed off... we all know that playing while your annoyed makes your whole game suffer.

Such a critical moment, such a bizarre thing to happen at a LAN. What SHOULD happen in situations like that? After all there was several thousand Euros at stake here.

in the wcg incident.. Zero4 was knocked out BECAUSE he lost to LOGAN/or was TIED ON POINTS.. after he had already lost to cooller..
NI3 incident was there.. but probably not to kick out zero4 but not to knock out his own countrymen in the next round..

His timing was way off. He tried to force his way in to nab several MH's only to end up hanging around it's spawn point for too long and thus allowing z4muz to frag him before the PU appeared. There were also several instances where he was perched on the RA ledge only to wait 10-15 seconds for it to spawn. Your football analogy isn't suitable either as i've seen plenty of situations where a key defender is lying injured but play continues only to eventually end in a goal. The referee is only required to stop play if there is a head injury. In fact, even if a dog were to run on to the pitch and head the ball into the net the goal would still stand according to the official rules.

Debating cooller's sportsmanship also isn't worthwhile since it ultimately revolves around a subjective interpretation of what constitutes fair play, as opposed to simply adhering to the rules, which are objective, definitive and unequivocal. Cooller didn't break any rules so in this regard his course of action is beyond dispute. Undeniably the whole situation was regrettable, as is any contest that is disrupted to the detriment of one or both of the participants, since we can't determine which player deserved to win on the basis of their gaming skill. As i said before, it's the organisers that should take the blame for not providing a stable base for competition, rather than the competitors who were merely the victims of incompetence.

It reminds me a bit of the cooller-fox match at ESO1 WB final where cooller was owned by the dm13 bug and lost 1-2. Shit happens, that's all...

yo jam, i dont really see why this is any different to a tennis game where one player slips and the other takes the next shot to win the point regardless. it was a 'binary situation' if u know what i mean. EITHER cooller would make the frag lagged and hopefully go on to win the match, or zamuz would be holding strafe in, and as soon as lag was over, he would teleport away leaving cooller standing there. basically.. whoever got the better of that situation would probably win the game. if i was in coollers shoes, i woulda done the same thing than trying to be the sportsman and losing the match.

Haven't been following Q3 quite as closely as I used to, but from this demo... looks like z4muz has been getting better, and cooller hasn't moved an inch (except for his movement which now sucks BTW). I'm a cooller fanboy myself, but looking at the quality... it looks like if he didn't win this map, he would have lost on DM6.

If I had an opportunity to get 1.000€ by fragging a lagged out opponent, I would had done it regardless of what the people cheering for the other dude would call me afterwards.

cooller would have made this frage anyway. we have seen this typ of frag a million times. z4muz was in the corne, if he would have mould a straight line to the right, his health would've be down in two seconds. there was no way escaping this frag.
and no one seems to mention how bad luck it was, when cooller missed mh 3times with a half second. that where most likely three fights he would've survived. anyway z4muz did great and I expected more of the so called best q3 dueller in the world (which is still z4 :)

Coollers aim was as on as always (xcept maybe his shaft).
And z4muz had on so many occasions taken all coolllers armor off , what makes you think he couldn't of done it then ?
and coollers doesnt only go for the kill (understandable) but he also gets the ra first.

NOw from z4muz's point of view he lagged and when he died he had NO IDEA WHERE cooller was. This is a huge disadvantage in duel. Because of this he got trapped at the rail/teleporter and resulted in dying eventually + getting spawnraped. If you can't see this ....

pointless debating this, we will never know what would have happened. There are 2 possibilities

1) Cooller infact does kill Z4muz which is highly possibly, as someone up there mentioned, he was in the CORNOR and we all know how often Cooller gets those frags, I have seen him do it so many times, I seriously doubt z4muz would have damaged him THAT much to be able to spawn kill him with the MG. Cooller was afterall tanked up

2) Z4muz somehow manages to escape (highly unlikely but anyway), IF he did escape it would be with extremely low health, sure he would grab the 50, but then Cooller would have the RA and he would be sitting without armour. Im sure Cooller would have then fragged him anyway

nobody can expect Cooller simply to let this frag run by, i personally feel he WOULD have killed him anyway.

So what if he didnt know where he was? He could have naturally assumed he would be going for the RA after the kill, getting stuck at the rail teleporter is his own stupidity.

I lost my consentration, my happyness of playing and all timing when the lag come to me. And actually, I didnt care so much after that. But thats MY fault! But I should play better untill the end of the game if the lag havent come to me.

cooller woulda made that frag regardless, maybe not won the game. although i did notice he was off form, and zamuz rail was owning until the lag. i think the turn around was the railings made by cooller at MH when zamuz was at RL, that was just an owning =)

anyways, unlucky zamuz.. i think they shoulda replayed the game since it coulda gone either way.

Nice rails by Zamuz in the first 11 minutes... then after the lag he clearly seemed out of his game!

and cooller seemed in his game, after a bad start he was halfway on a comback, and cant really see how he could stop firing as zamus was half dead when he stopped up

(apart from motor sports, were the importance is in the difrence of the cars) Look 1on1 sports, like tennis, very hard for the same player to allways win, ferrero number one has lost many matches vs not even top 10, cooller usually manages to finish first, zamuz also, zero4 also, he had some problems but no other sport the best players almost allways wins, so quake pure luck? i think not.

cooller does use cg_showplayerlean 0 which makes zamus look like he is just camping and standing still and not lagging
also cooller lagged once or twice in the demo
zamus needs to go complain to the wipeout LAN networking admins
