I got to play this game at the gamexpo (wasnt allowed officially though)

So far I gotta say, it feels good. This game is more then serious sam. Much more.

some of the big bosses are cheesy tho, but I've missed this kind of action. This game actually reminded me with the good times Doom and Duke Nukem gave me, and thats a good thing!

did you try bunnyhopping and if so did it feel okay? any sort of speed restriction? all these vids i watch of it and havent seen any and i heard the developers were quakeworld players, i thought they would be dying to show it off.

Yes, nearly all weapons have multiple fire-modes.

oh btw, this is one thing that might be the downfall of this game:

the weapons. I believe that everyone will end up using the Mini/Rocketlauncher.... its a really strong weapon... and imagine... mini for all ranges and rockets for medium... everyone will pick it :)

some info about the other weapons: the starting weapon (painkiller) is actually pretty strong, but you need some skill to use it! primary fire is like the gauntlet in quake3: a short-range weapon that has 3 or 4 blades on it that can slice and dice you :) secondary fire is best to compare with UT2k3's pulsegun. only this weapon grapples to an objec that you aim for, and you try to run around getting opponents in that beam.

The "knife thrower" as I will name it is a weapon that throws knifes (the size of swords...) and you can actually nail down opponents on the ground (shoot in foot) or to an object in the wall (anywhere when they are close to a wall)

the physics seem to require almost no extra CPU power, meaning that wether they are hanging still or moving, they will not make the game run choppy, although I could imagine that they would limit the use of physics in multiplayer maps.

multiplayer looks cool but I think that deathmatch is gonna be the most popular, and theres nothing wrong with that. Most of the maps have the same old, spooky style it seems tho.. but I hope they have some surprises for us and give us some futuristic maps as well :)

only time will tell. I just cant wait to play it again!

The "knife thrower" is a stake gun.. it throws stakes, or grenades, or grenades in a stake (!).

All weapons have secondary modes (5 weapons x 2) and some have some kind of combo.

The dev team for PK actually referred to quake1's rl/shaft combo when mentioning their rl/minigun combo...

It makes me all tingly inside! They also mentioned "advanced bounce physics" and such, I'm REALLY hoping this will be the next QW.

what does it matter anyway. As soon as the demo is released THEN come back on your comment. I wont judge any game before I have played it, same goes for CS2. all I can say is that I think it will just split up the huge CS community, but might not really matter if its that huge anyway... just that one of them has a future, the other does not.

Effectively yeah. The people here are wannabe pro-gamers who play Q3/CPMA/QW and have lost their chance at the limelight. They see this as their chance of getting something similar to the game they like... so they have another shot.

These are people who want to recapture past glories... The point is, if you want to play a game that apes QW, play QW.

And btw.. why the hell are new games beeing released all the time ? almost every game nowadays is everything but inovative.. why do HL2 ? HL1 was allready released, why do a new FIFA every year ? why is ut2k4 gonna be released ? ther's allready ut2k3 :f
this game may not bring many new things, but it sure as hell looks fun, fast and full of action, with great graphics.. and that's a kind of games that has been left out because all those cs clones sell better.

The reason why they're making HL2 is to make money. Why people should be excited is that Halflife is almost a platform in itself, and it's to be expected that HL2 will replicate this. 90% of people playing an FPS online are playing it or have a copy.

It'll come with out of the box cheat protection, voice comms, Havok physics and the Source engine. The HL (QW) engine has many limitations, this is why HL is not enough.

Open source does not mean cheat, on the contrary, it means less cheats. Since skilled coders have built their own clients and anti-cheating measures (which are not open source, mind you). If any cheat was developed, it would be very easy for them to disable it via the custom client.

Why the hell do you think people are liking the game? Because it'll be the next big competitive game? Give me a break, you're missing the entire point or you are posting on the wrong thread.

If I wanted to play QW, I'd play QW - hey, I do! - and I'm expecting PainKiller to be something new and enthrilling although I hope it'll be fast like QW (and that's it). It's contrary to expecting something new and slow, as most games are nowadays. I could say to you the same: why are you waiting for CS2? Play CS now and stop dissing other people's games. I don't see "pk hypers" posting crap on HL2 threads saying it's just a remake of HL1 so it shouldn't be done, so buy a clue and filter out PK on your ESR filters since you can't stop the hate.

I think that's exactly why people are liking this game. They want this to be the next big competitive game because it's supposed to be similar to a game they already play or have played. Their game's gone out of the limelight so now they can have a second chance. What's sickening to me is how they (PCF & pals etc.) are trying to hype the game for their own purposes. No-one's even played it in multiplayer...

Q1/Q3 style with the secondary fire twist. Many of us play q3 nowadays just because we're waiting for a new actionfilled FPS game. And really, ACTION isn't the word that comes to mind when i hear counter-strike.

Well, LanGremlin had talent no doubt but James' effort gives us a unique opportunity to compare the artistry of these two trolling maestros, as they have both chosen to ply their trade in a Painkiller thread.

LanGremlin elects to use a xenophobic, personal attack designed to illicit a strong response from a few individuals. It's a reliable gambit but it doesn't quite produce the explosive results of James' stunningly provocative effort. Here we see a troll at the peak of his powers - firstly he states an opinion that is liable to be contary to that of most of the people reading the thread. He follows up this devastating opener with a wide ranging, unsubstantiated attack on most of the visitors to the site. An unsubtle yet very effective means of giving the troll exactly what he wants, a feast of responses.

I think James' strong point relies on the fact that he's a newcomer to the category. While we're all already used to LanGremlin (he's an imported troll afterall) and we know most of his tricks, James has produced a massive wave of replies on his debut thanks mostly to the fact that people have no clue about who's him whatsoever and they're taking his post as a genuine post. While I agree that competitor James might turn into one hell of a troll in the very near future, I'd like to point his premature success to his initial troll ignoring rate, which is pretty low since he's been in the shadows until now.

That being put, yes, his opening was a prime move. While stating facts that aren't true and taking his point of view as the supreme truth, he's succesfully enraged both people who likes the subject game and neutral people alike. Of course, his replies are keeping the quality because he does have some points, so I think we're up to a hell of a next round. Now, if we could only throw k-dawg in the mix, I think we'd have the best troll battle ever.

But you have to admit, even though we "know" langremlin and his tactics, he's still pretty damn entertaining :p

I like to see that so far most people have a good impression about this game.

I just hope so much that we are in for another game like Q/UT :) I hear people say so much about games not beïng innovative lately, and more stuff similar to that... but did we have any games in the past year that go up next to UT and Quake? for some UT2k3.. but not that many other games right? I am glad there are still developers taking chances at making a "true" FPS game.

damn , the minigun thing is a bad idea. it will be like old UT1 where u can use minigun in every situation. that was the only reason that i quited Ut1 , unbalanced weapons.

On lan the mini was foolishy overpowered but online it was alright, until mods to tweak it came out :(
