2d final project.. is my two dimensional class that I'm taking.. final project because it's the end of the semester next Tuesday. I'm in college of art, majoring in graphic design.

In the US? Just get a boy/man to escort you. No one will mess with you if they think you're 'taken'. I can definitely sympathize with you though. As a person who's lived in many a dangerous neighborhood, and done lots of acid while running around in dangerous neighborhoods (for my personal, twisted enjoyment), all you need to remember is to have the right attitude. Presence counts for more than you can imagine.

If you think about taking self defence lessons, I highly recommend WingTsun. I've been into it for about 2 years now and afaik it's probably the only "true" system that works. I know, sounds like I'm advertising now but really it does. You don't need to be strong physically or athletic. In 3 months you'll know more than enough to protect yourself on the streets and 3 guys coming at you would regret it for sure.

Other than that, try get someone to follow you home if you're really that scared to walk home alone.

Sorry but that's nonsense. You'd need an amazing level of technique to deal with 3 opponents, you're assuming they're not armed and that they have no martial arts knowledge. Size, power and numbers are far more deadly than martial arts in a real-life situation and even if you do 'win' you'll probably get hurt.

Well, after only two years I've learned how to deal with 5 people (maybe more but I haven't checked that cause it's not that intresting) at the same time, armed and unarmed (no firearms that is). And speaking of size, I'm not that big at all and that's why WingTsun suits me perfectly. So a women who as been training 3 times/week for 3-4 months will not have any bigger "challenge" by dealing with 3 guys who will most likely engage her one at the time. Unless they're all into martial arts themself that is.

You're going to get badly hurt if you believe you could handle multiple attackers in a real situation. I'd be very surprised if your sifu agreed with you.

I'm talking from my own experiences, I've been in real-life situations with multiple attackers for about 5 months ago. I got hurt yes, but those guys won't attack me on the streets again for sure. And yes, my sifu would agree with me since I've been taking private lessons 3 hours/day for almost 2 years now, due the fact that he's my own uncle.

the real problem these days is that even if you can beat 3 'attackers', they probably will be seeing you again in the streets for revenge, but not with only 3.. and most likely not unamerd. getting in a streetgang shitlist isn't something funny i can tell that on my own experience.

a guy who tried to rob me in my neighborhood's street. he was little smaller and had no fighting skills whatsoever then i couldn't just sit and let him take my wallet, money and documents, shoes, watch, etc. he was carrying only a knife. some kung fu i know did the trick :P. i got hurt too.

i've regreted doing that as he and lots of his 'friends' started to follow me in the streets. they tried to take me several times but as i was walking alert i managed to escape. that went for 2 full months not being able to walk free... this feeling really sucks.. lucky i was already about to move from town.

Yeah I know the feeling, though it has started to fade away now but in the beginning I was afraid that they somehow knew who I was, who my gf was and all. I was mostly afraid that something would happend to her and I wouldn't stand the thought of me being the reason why. Anyway, haven't seen them since they attacked me which I'm glad about... guess I was just on the wrong place in the wrong time.

Last night I was minding my own business while walking down to my comfortable home. When all the sudden two girls smiled at me, it was very obvious that they were up to no good. I kept on walking and looked behind one more time, they were still smiling and one of the girls started to move her lips. I couldn't understand what she said but it was probably something involving my ass and a huge iron pipe. This was the signal for me to take actions! I picked up a brick which happened to lay there and slammed it into her face. She surely wouldn't be smiling at me no more. The other girl was about to run away so I took her by the arm, and used my self-defense judo technic, which I learned by Carmac on top of a polish mountain, and threw her against a concrete wall. Both of them couldn't hardly move, which made them totally incapable of gang-raping me. I succeeded!

When guys laugh at you it doesn't instantly mean that they want to rape you. And do you really believe taking up self-defense classes will make you be able to defend yourself against a male? let alone three of them. You'll probably end up much worse.

You would be even better of just by simulating an epileptic attack. Just start shaking your whole body and scream out loud. This will leave the rapist in total confusion, which gives you a change to run away if he didn't already ran away.

Edit: As you mensioned screaming.. that's one of the good things to do, I agree. One of my best friends once almost got raped, she managed to run away. That's why if I talk about it, it's more in a serious manner. So please respect that.

This might come as a shocker but most guys aren't rapist. Most guys in that age sometimes stare and smile to a girl, not because they want to rape her, but because she looks nice. I can understand that you sometimes see it's differently after what happened to your girlfriend. And especially when it's late and dark it can gives you an unsafe feeling.

About the self-defense lessons. I'm doubtful if such lessons are useful in a situation where one tries to rape you. It will take months training, probably even longer, before you fully master so many technique's that you're prepared to face any type of rapist; small, fat, tall. with knife, without knife, with gun, two rapist or a trained rapist. I don't think the average self-defense class teaches you all these technique's. They'll probably teach you some basic-movements which won't be sufficient to over-come the rapist. And if you'll ever be in such situation you will be probably so scared that you'll forget all about your lessons.

The combination of pepperspray and a alarm, as shay said, would be a nice combo. I can tell from own experience that you can r take out any person by spraying the gas between the eyes. And I can't imagine that any rapist would still be standing near you if really loud alarm went off. And hell, you could even learn a few self-defense movements, just as long you're not depending on it.

It was because the 3rd dude told them to watch out (they were driving their scooters where they shouldnt have been, nearly hitting an old lady). The dude got beaten to death by one guy (i think he even used his helmet) while the other guy was encouraging him to beat him some more....after leaving that guy for dead on the ground, they went into the supermarket to buy some groceries as if nothing had happened... :\

it's never safe anywhere at anytime. Self defense isn't a solution but can make you feel stronger and safer (am blackbelt taekwondo and done it for 10 years now).

The best way to walk a bit safer on the streets is not by walking alone. Try to walk around with a friend. :)

I did ninjitsu for 6 years, and I was taught to run away first if I could.

So just get some sprint training done (as therealmccoy said) and run the fuck away :)

stuff pillows in your clothes, paint red spots on your face, wear thick glasses and a brace everytime you go abotu at night. noone will touch you ;)
