hmm looks like a interestnig game

first time i have had a proper look at the game and it looks really fun, definatly gonna check it out at my local lan centre next time im there.

I haven't seen any of the developers claim anything like that. So I wanted him to clarify. An url where they state so would help. Otherwise it would seem it is just something the guy imagined.

From what I could gather by a quick search, Natural Selection was first. But that's just a MOD for Half-Life. The team behind Savage created their own engine for their game. I'm not saying that NS is less of a game or better/worse in any way, but seems like the Savage guys have put more work into it.

The obvious similarity is that both games mix FPS with RTS. But apart from that there aren't all that many similarities. NS is in small indoor maps while Savage is outdoors has more in common with something like tribes (or UT2004 onslaught) in scale.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to stretch the similarities. One could claim that all FPS are copys of Wolfensten 3D with enough imagination.

I guess you could. Someone always have to be first, one can't call anything that has some similarities a copy or ripoff or whatever.

When I first played it I thought the same thing. But really if you play it it's rather unique - it has a HUGE focus on melee combat, introduces siege units (which makes games entirely different), the ability to drop "spawn points" (in the form of garrisons and sub-lairs) ANYWHERE on the map, the different tech trees and such... all makes it a very unique game.

Another high point of the game is that it has auto map download, and the maps are only like 100kb (the minimap graphic is usually bigger than the map file!). The community's put out well over 50 decent-or-better maps so far, which makes pubbing on servers that have them in rotation really fun. Not the same old map day in and day out. The leagues of course only play fair and balanced maps that have been tested, but fun pubbing is an important aspect that a lot of games lack in some form or another.

I was a beta tester of Savage. I think it's tons better than Natural Selection.

As with most (all?) HL mods I had a lot more fun in NS when it was newly released... then popularity dumbed it down apparently. I hear they even made the aiming really stupid and inaccurate CS style now.

You can try the demo (links are at the site linked in the topic). It is basically like the full game with only the human race. No other restrictions. So it is a good way to try the game out. Plenty of people playing also.

If you want to buy it you can get a cd-key via their site (and a link to dl the game) or buy it in stores. Should be out in europe now or very soon. Has been out in the US a while.

yah, i tested the demo and it was great fun :). i will prolly buy the online key thingie when i get some cash :o

Looks like a really fun game to play, can't really tell how strong it would be for a big tourney game, but I might give it a shot! It definately looks promising :) Nice vid btw :P

Have been clanning it with my clan "Ac3", and while there are (as any game of it's kind) a few balance issues, the fact you can play as either race (it's not forced marine vs alien ala NS), and leagues support this, makes up for it's imbalances.

nice maybe ill even buy this game this look wicked, did they actually make any publicity for this game? felt like this went miles past me ;x

Not much. It's gotten the "best game no one knew about" award on a couple sites/magazines.

Looks very nice. Really liked the feeling of the Lightning Gun type of weapon :) I think I'll download the demo and give it a go.

The game is awesome, and the movie was quite nice too.

I was originally going to put some Hypocrisy in but I stumbled upon an old white zombie cd while looking for some "medium paced metal" (since I think that suits savage better than non-stop speed metal), and it just sounded perfect.

Was wondering how this game was doing in europe, i know it was released over here but not heard much fuss about it. Does it have a big community?

i tryed the demo a couple times and evetually just deleted it. the game wasnt fun enough on pubs for me to bother with and there was literally _no-one_ talking about it when i tryed, so it felt like it was gunna just die. im glad to hear the community is actually growing and since u can d/l the game i might actually *shock horror* buy it if it gets any kind of decent support.
