yeah and why in hell do they zp it, now i need about 1 gg free space on my hard disk for even beng able to watch it.
Such Filesizes are downloaded by high bandwidth users only anyway, so why zip to just to gain a few megs, no one would care.

the reason for zipping, isn't to save space tho. a) it provides simple error checking b) acts as a container for links, faqs, screenshots, etc etc. c) no one likes direct links to avi's, and i'd certainly get more than 2 people complaining about that if i did it.

a) a zip file can have transfer errors as easily (or hardly) as any other file format

reading back, that came out like a thought this zip thing was total a disaster, which is not true - i believe it is just unnecessary demanding in both hdd space needed and time involved before actually viewing the movie.

no matter what, 510mb is better to download than 520mb especially for those where it takes a long time to even download 10mb, and of course, multiply 10 by a 1000+ and you get large numbers.. it's neither here nor there anyway, as i said, i chose not to compress the avi in favour of fast extraction time. Granted zip is hardly the most resillient of format for data integrity, but it's a damn sight better than .avi, and a corrupt .zip is easier to diagnose than someone asking me for help because their avi is playing wierdly... is it driver, hardware, or corruption problems! :P

if there's a container format that us movie makers can include text files, links, codecs, images, etc in without the overhead of required x2 space to uncompress we'll use it. I don't think there is tho.

wmv does blow. I compared xvid1.0, divx5.11, wmv9, and not only did xvid come out smaller, but it looked better as well. Lets not turn this in to a compression thread, it gets kind of borig. needless to say more people would complain if i used wmv. :)

Try downloading into another directory, that always does the trick for me, i first download something to my desktop and sometimes its corrupt (zip files) and when i delete it and dl it too my d: it works just fine. Maybe it is smart to try another program to open the zip, haven't tried that yet.

It doesn't get boring!

This is the sickest think ever. It's the only movie I've given 10 since The Badge v3.0 and the Frags Done Extreme 3 trailer.

Thanks to Inifinite Trajectory and Shaolin Production for this excellent piece of art! This masterpiece of a movie!

I'm totally blown away :D

And the sickest editing, the stuff that gave me the chills, was at 11:10 when aquiring next trick and you see upTown on a modification Q3DM17, then 1981. Then roffo goes crazy with the RL on a map I don't know the name of, then rate + mrks on another. roffo had the coolest trick IMO ;) And the dual PG climb at the end by edisdead and calc was so awsome ;) Insane skill!

Well... The zip-file contains alot more than just the movie, so it's very handy to get it all in one file instead of downloading more than 16-17 separate files. And zip/rar do get the files a bit smaller at times. Not much, but a bit ;)

I haven't seen any gaming movies with multiple soundtracks before. Although using it in fragmovies is a good idea for those who only like the ingame sound, only the music or both :)

The point he is making is that whether or not AVI was made with multiple audio streams in mind, it now has the ability regardless, ie: Those 2 formats aren't the only ones to support multiple audio streams.

i looked at both ogg and matroska, but decided to keep it as simple as possible this time around. Generally people don't like installing a whole raft of codec packs and direct show filters. Plus with there being so many q3 trick movies out recently the last thing i wanted to do was alienate possible viewers. Maybe next time when i'm more happy with these relatively new containers i'll use them.

btw. for ogm you only need oggds, simple install file

for matroska there's this single zip file with 2 matroska files, which i have no idea of how to install and it seems no one does either. And we have this matroska pack that installs various things, one of those things seems to fuck vobsub up so matroska is not an option, even tho you get smaller fil sizes using mkv than ogm

the only reason for picking ogg then would be to put vorbis encoded sound in there, which would mean another thing to install. :)
space saves too, but in the grand scale of things it wouldn't really be worth it. Matroska / ogm work natively in media player classic, and i'm sure a couple of other players like core.. but seeing as some people have had problems with media player classic i'm glad i didn't take either of those routes.

i know no ppl that has problems playing mkv/ogm in mpc. But mpc sucks cuz there do exist ppl with dark screens so a gamma correction feature in the player is welcome, which WMP9 is pretty much alone to support.

You seem to forget to answer my question, if it's neither ogm nor mkv how did you use dual audio?

And besides, THE codecs everyone should install are: ffdshow, xvid, AC3 filter, LameMP3 and ogg, since gaming movies aren't alone to use these audio codecs.

Besides, you don't have to use the ogg audio codec if i'm not mistaken, you can choose any video and audio encoder for ogm/mkv.

No need to install LameMP3 is it? It's just MP3. It's used for encoding, not decoding AFAIK. No sound quality difference if you use that or a default MP3 decoder.

he's not actually listed on the Infinite Trajectory website as a member - which is where i got the members list from - i believe he left in between submitting demos for the movie, and the movie being released (which was about 8 months). credits has a lot of mistakes in it - add that one to the list. :-/

well. once again a very flash tricking movie. i personally felt it went on too long, 20mins is a little extreme,? i found myself watching the special effects and listening to the music (which was a nice break from the norm may i add) by about the 10 min mark, the tricks meant nothing after id seen so many beforehand.
maybe if you put as much effort into a frag movie the results would be pretty mindblowing, but for now i think many of us have had enough flashy tricking movies, its time for a change? overall though the quality of the movie and editing was top notch, congrats.

Aye, I agree. Revolution was way too long. Story sequence at start felt forced, but this is all beyond improvement now. Haven't watched this movie yet (three cheers for ADSL!), and won't have for another 5 hours and 20 minutes.

Personally I think 4K rtcw movie extremely boring. It definetly shows some great editing skills, but the movie itself as a "game movie" is a total crap. Opposite to the infesus rtcw movie, which is one of the best I've ever seen.

Of course I expected you to defend the movie, it would be weird if you didn't hehe. But the thing is, it was really frustrating to download a 600mb movie and then realizing its more like a "cool gfx anybody-friendly" movie than a "movie for rtcw players". When you watch iT2, you can see both of that, because the editing is excellent and the tricks are extremely skilled, but I just didn't see that on the 4K rtcw movie, only the editing part.

The infensus movie showed a lot more of the game. I'm aware that a non-rtcw player would prefer the 4K movie, but as a ex-rtcw player myself, the infensus movie impressed me a lot more.

Sorry if it is a bit confusing :)

yeah, a lot of rtcw players prefered other rtcw movies to 4k.revolution, but as with iT2 the point of the movie was to make something which appealed to everyone, not just a dwindling scene players for any particular game. :)

Indeed. VLC > WMP. Especially since you can view 99% of all movies without installing a single codec. And the ability to preview partly downloaded films is nice as well (so you don't waste hours downloading a shitty camcord version of a movie)

also, it's impossible for us to satisfy the diversity of global musical opinion, it's just not possible, even with 5 tracks you can't possibly synch rock, or punk, ska, dub, pop, drum and bass... whatever to same beats and synch points in the movie. we tried. maybe chilled hiphop beats (ala skate videos) would be best suited to this kind of movie in the future.. who knows?

well, the music i used perhaps does have the meaningless part - it's electro. apart from the we want your soul, which is about globalisation and capitalism. And the greenvelvet song which is about the effects of drugs, etc etc :) I was implying that to me teen punk/ska/rock music is meaningless - so i guess to other people my musical choice is meaningless too. As for the teen reference, at leasthere in england if you ask most teenaged lads what kind of music they're into they'll be a definite shift towards that genre... i know, i have two younger teenaged brothers. Very predictable, very boring. :)

i did as the readme said but could only play it with the divx-player, mpc locked up after a min or so, wmp fucked up the sound/synch, only divx-player played it flawless. thats major suckage tbh :P

imo the vid itself is awesome, the complexity of the tricks, the timing and skill displayed are pretty much the best out there, not to mention some new ideas, the plasma climb on csu1a towards the end, incredible.

halfway through the movie i got a bit tired and indifferent about the effects and overall i think the movie should've been shorter. its not so much a matter of using "filler" tricks, all tricks were great but the movie is just too long...

next time you do a movie you'll need a ladder to raise the bar ;P

Imho this movie was too long. Sure, the editing was great, but imho there were so many effects, that it was hard to really appreciate the tricks themselves, because all those camera moves, slomo/fastforward, etc. While I think it is a nice movie with really crazy tricks, and it all looks really beautiful, to me it's not as intense as other movies, for example tricking_it or it defrag, which I both liked better than this one.

The movie was to long imo but thats probably because I prefer frag movies over trickjumping :)

It's nice to see people putting in alot of time and effort to make good high quality movies instead of all those crappy CS movies that is done in Vegas, note to people - the light ray effect sucks!

Great movie, great innovative ideas, the track selection option was very clever. This and 4K.Revolutions are the best FPS movies i've seen to date. Congratulations.

The team work shown by those trickers is outstanding, imagine that type of team based skill in Q3CTF, you'd see the best flag captures ever!

I'd love to see a Q3 frag movie next, maybe you could make a frag movie from the upcoming ESWC. If this ESWC is anything like last years you'll see some amazing shit. Or a CTF movie infact.

WMP: I see the logo and start seeing a guy far away shooting rockets and then it stops and goes error message on my ass.
mplayerc: same as in WMP.
divx player: cant play
vlan: plays, but fucks up the image!

I have: installed newest xvid, installed pretty new divx, installed that audioswitchthingy.

May this be a conflict between codecs? I notice some of my old xvid's plays without sound in WMP.

I am so tired of instaling codecs, and then unistalling them to watch another movie and then installing other codecs to just to discover that I cant get audio from another movie.

just as it says to do in the faq! :)
the installer for the final v1.0 xvid is different from popular old builds of xvid, and therefore can't uninstall the previous version first - you have to do it manually, and then install the new version.

Hopefully when people are up to the new installer (xvid rc1-4,v1.0) they should be saved this hassle when xvid 1.0+ comes out.

Anyway, glad you got it working.

I had the same problem, and it was because I had 3ivx installed for some vague mp3 filter.
In the error message details it says what codec (dll) crashes wmp / mpc. If you don't want to uninstall codecs, you can override it in mpc under filters > overrides.

ot. thought the movie was cool! :i everything was done so well :p but felt a bit like the makers wanted to make it 'the best movie ever'.. was so many nice effects and the audio was done so well that i kinda forgot to look at the tricks :p and those where all so nice! :> and little things like the screaming grunt when he flies into the air :p
uber job on the audio tracks too!

Wow, great movie! got it in 90 mins @ approx 100KB/s...
but.... i had troubles watching movie because of damn high data rate of movie! i couldnt view some scenes because my hdd was reading like a hell... btw, first, original track r0x0rz! and progressive one is good, tho ;)

A nice movie, most likely the best tricks I've seen in any tricking movie...

I have to agree with carmac that there is a real outburst of movies... maybe its a better idea to just collect the best of the best tricks and combine those in one movie instead of 5 in 1 month :p

Although I like the effort put into adding 5 soundtracks, I think its actually something I dislike... what it means is that you cant "highlight" a certain beat to a frag or a scene in the game, making it less affected to the stuff you see... I really enjoy it when people put in time to sync scenes, but you cant possibly sync 5 audiotracks unless they all have the same highlights :p

nice try though, but I recommend using the standard 1 soundtrack next time :)

the movie was made and synched purely to track 1+2.. so there are points in those tracks which synch much much better than to the other 3 tracks. I'm not sure how you think i've not put time in to synch the visuals and tracks1+2 together.. maybe you didn't like that music and changed it to another track which isn't synched quite as perfectly. *shrug* Having said that, as all the tunes are based on the 4:4 style of most modern music it's easy to synch similar points in the audio tracks together, but it's never going to be possible to offer perfect synching across 4 audio mixes.. but what we've shown here is that what some people thought impossible is easily possible if you try. :)

I didn't read all the comments so I don't know if anyone already mentioned it but the only thing I dislike is the 4:3 format. Widescreen would have fit sooo much better imho.

Yeah, widescreen adds a cinematic effect

not only that it would decrease the filesize dramatically :p

but because a lot of 3rd person perspective is used, maybe it would let out a few important details while watching, dont really know :)

i considered widescreen, although, only after being about halfway thru the movie.. it would've meant going back and changing a lot of the stuff i'd already done, picture in picture, name tags, cams, etc, etc. :-/

+ most people don't have a widescreen monitor. :)

Absolutely fucking amazing.
Music/Mixing was class. No need at all for the other audio streams..the primary one was fantastic.

Great Visuals, Quake3's never looked so good.

Some class tricks (overtaking the plasma, then using it for a wall climb!... omg!)

10/10.... This rates among my top 3 Q3 Moovies.

It would be great if you could keep these coming... 500mb's is fine... keep the quality... for those that dont want/moan about 500mb's... just wait for someone to recompress it.... least that way everyone gets what they want.
