I downloaded is as well, but hell who can blame us when we have to wait few more weeks till it comes out in Europe. I made my preorder for Doom 3 weeks ago, but with games like these you can't effort to have a delay on other people ;)

Can't find the release dates anywhere but I thought the 8th of August is the UK release date, in Europe we have to wait the longest and my pre-order will probally be delayed some weeks with the luck I always have with those kind of things.

strafe jumping wasnt a bug in q3 either... it was a bug in q2 that they carried over to q3 on purpose.

BUT I DONT REMEMEBER IT!

these are not the same shadows. even with shadows 0 there are still some dark corners....

and btw the box maps are really really sucky unless you love the HL ones... . what is wrong with Tim?

The plasma seems to be.... sucky.. look at the bullets(or whatever its called) incredible slow. And is it possible to use fov?

i tried to change fov, got the msg "cannot change this command in multiplayer" or something... :(

and plasma seems real slow, but i'm guessing it's powerful

no doubt to stop illegal zooming :(

i think there should be jump pads instead of the lifts though,

so much for not allowing the graphics to be tweaked much ;D, i especially like the completly black polygons everywhere.

personally i think the reload is a good thing, reduces spamming, and ats a bit more strategy - especially in tdm

the plasma bolts should indeed be slightly quicker i think

Agreed, lifts are far better and allow double jumps near the top if anything like q2 :>

can also get off halfway instead of being stuck in upward 'easy to get shot at' motion :)

Unfortunately the double jumping is pretty non-existant in D3 compared to Q2. Also without railgun, jumppads wouldn't be SUCH a bad thing, air rockets/plasma would be hella fun and more challenging than hitting someone on a jumppad with rail which everyone can do. Nothing wrong with the lifts though imo, I don't think it makes much of a difference personally.

Looks like UT2003 (yes 03, not 04).
Small cramped map with a lot of stuff where you can get stuck.
Even the textures and the meshes remind me of many tech-themed UT maps.

Or maybe I've played too much ONS and now every standard map seems too small to me...

these multiplayer maps are not meant to be used in any serious fragging / competitions / etc

I hope so. We're the ones who decide on tournament rules afterall.... So let's stick with what's different.

tbh, I think r_shadows should be allowed to be turned off.

the main reason, is that they look rediculous; the hard edged, dynamic real-time shadows honestly look very very bad. i swear the game looks better with r_shadows 0.

If you turn it off, the map will still have shadows from its lightmaps, it will even have the dynamic shadows from fans etc which seem to be like animated lightmaps. these shadows look _good_. these are the nice realistic looking soft shadows.

also note that dark areas will still be dark areas and bright areas will still be bright. there just wont be the silly gray polygons that are meant to represent their shadow on the floor next to everything.

and of course they are performance hogs, you loose a lot of of frames with r_shadows 1.

that sucks. you can turn off the shadows? basically this is the worst case scenario, because now internet play won't be safe....

I hope shadows etc are all in there. I think the community burned its self out with Quake III , you all freaking bitch it is too aim based, but you go to extreme length to make it that way:)

I also hope DOOM is different enough so players who were elite (really good) at Quake III wont dominate things straight away. With new maps, and tactics this is a really good time for new blood to come into the scene, perhaps existing players who never quite made it as pro's to do better.

If you wanna take a look at my .cfg.
Should have no particules (only smoke tray from rockets and rl remain, dunno how to remove them), no specials effects, no bump mapping, etc etc etc.

well... nice cfg mate, with mine i have like 20fps more and same visuals tho.. =)

I think the movement is really bad why couldnt they implement the same strafe jumping as in q2 and q3 feels like your stuck the ground...
