So tell me, does the increase in DPI make the thing feel any smoother. I.E. does it feel like an overclocked mx510 at 250hz or 500hz? even IF you run it at the default 125hz speed?

Well you say an OC'd mx510 feels smoother; i'd say it feels more responsive..

Is the higher DPI count due to hardware or software? Don't think this mouse has been released in Canada, yet. Many places have issued April 19th as the release dates. I received a Viper for free from Razerzone... boasts, I believe, 1000 DPI. You can really notice the smoothness in game with the mouse... shame it's a piece of crap when it comes to tracking.

How does it feel at lower DPI? If you set it to 400DPI does it handle just like an MX510?

well, at the higher dpi you get a feeling of low sens, but at the same time you can move as fast :& so its the other way around with lower dpi.. Can't really compare it to an mx510 now, its just different. . But you really don't need the lower dpi settings .. 1600 works fine even if you move really fast :o

I bought one myself today.
I use linux so it's a little different. (no drivers etc)
Here are my findings:

Plugged it into my PS/2 port and started playing.
The highest dpi setting feels really nice to me. (I've never used any overclocked mouse so i can only compare to my old mx310).
Much more responsive than my previous mouse.
Tested it some more, put my sens in q3 very low and the dpi to 1600 so i could have my old sens back (more or less).
Played a couple of games, was very pleased with the mouse.
But then, I discovered that this mouse had negative accel on the highest dpi setting. So with 1 flick with my hand, i couldn't turn around entirely (180 degrees, yes, low sens).
If I did the same distance with my mouse but slower, I did more than 180 degrees.
Plugged it in to my usb port, recompiled my kernel to support usb mice and tested it again.
No more negative accel.
So i'm going to leave it on USB since it's a lot smoother than my mx310 on usb, wich was a bit choppy.
Can't say other linux users will experience the same problem with ps/2, but I thought I'd share my experiences.

(tested with kernel 2.6.9 btw)

I think I have twice the sens you do then so it'll probably work fine for me also then :) gonna get one as soon as I get hold of some money.

i was jsut wondering what the best setting wuld be on the mx518... surely the highest dpi with ur in game sens adjusted to ur liking wuld be best? are there any benifits to using the lower dpi options?

i can't see it is.. maybe if you move your mouse EXTREEEMLY fast.. but i guess it's just for changing sens "onthefly".. ..... :p
