hiphop started when dj kool herc found out that people only liked certain parts of a record (the beat), so he used 2 records and mixed them together over and over to form a beat. after that, people started to emcee a little, which grew into poetry, which grew into hiphop. great poets and emcees have stayed underground, where the art is preserved.
