Were there any actual differences between the 510 and the 500? Most stores sell the mice for the same price these days... which often lead people to believe that the only difference is colour.
The MX 510, to my knowledge, only has a max of 800 DPI, while the MX 518 has a max of 1600 DPI. The difference can be felt and seen on how sensitive the mouse movement is.
Minimal difference. But yes, if you look at the numbers, the 518 is better. It's all about getting used to it, not about getting the best, since tech companies always try to cater to gearheads by doubling the vital stats of anything.
The bottom line is the 518 IS a better mouse.
Becaues of it's increased DPI and it will respond quicker.
Not to mention the confidence it might bring some people.
Perhaps they are tiny differences, but for many the 518 is going to be worthwhile, as IT SHOULD be able to hold a 750hz overclock, as opposed to the 450-500 that the 510 does.
I know many gamers who can't afford to waste money , but they will gladly piss 40 quid away if they think it would improve in game accuracy.
And I guess the same goes for a lot of serious gamers.
Gamers are a putty for for new products especially when its to do with improving skills.
You wouldn't happen to know if the 1600 DPI is hardware based, or software based... would you? Also... if the 1600 DPI will be present when using USB 1.0.
And 1600 DPI is hardware based this time around - no weird Logitech bullshit. It'll be 1600 DPI by default no matter your drivers, which is a definite plus for this mouse, aside form marginally better performance.
yes, on paper, jamerio, the mx518 is a better mouse. however, ive tried my friends razer diamondback and mx510 and i cant 'feel' the difference between 1600 and 800 dpi. and i think my mx510 is much more responsive than his, even tho 'on paper' the diamondback has a 1ms response. well it might be due to my massive 1GHz usb port overclock (yes, i really achieved that overclock), but even so im too used to my mx510 to even want to switch to another mouse. sure the diamondback is smaller = aiming with fingers = greater precision, but i just got used to aiming by moving my wrist, which is how i aim with the mx510. i also like how the mx510 acts like a pillow for ur hand coz of its huge size... and it is possible to aim with fingers, its clumsy tho, 510 is not good for small movements which is why i have a low sens (4 in q3!).
otherwise jamerio i like ur modded mx510 :D u could install a cooler in their and have a crude nyko airflow mouse =]
hm, Ive heard some great things about it. But I dont believe I will perform better than what I do with a mx510 anyway. Maby I will buy it when prizes go down.
Don't buy this mouse because you can go 800 to 1600 dpi. Thats crap first of all.
Buy this mouse for its 16bit transmission rate and buy it because the dpi is hardware based(means less processor usage)
Don't believe Me? Download mouserate and use your mx510 or any other mouse. You'll notice that the numbers fluctuate alot but keep within an average of 125 when moving very fast. When you use the mx518 the numbers barely move off 125. This relates to more consistent movements.
What does this mean? Better tracking!
1600dpi doesn't mean quicker response it just means that you will move your mouse less and the cursur on the screen will move farther.
OR: Apply the USB polling rate fix and wow, you're getting 250 or 500 Hz consistent. Fluctuation here or there notwithstanding, you're still getting 2x more (on average) for free.
Tried what you said, i have the 518 and 510, and the rate program shows exactly the same thing for both mouse, 518 isnt any more stable.
im running just the default windows drivers, no usb hack, so 125hz
The DPI reading itself in MX510 is as hardware based as in MX518, only difference there is that MX510 uses software switches compared to MX518's hardware switches (the two buttons). If you think that +-1 or 2hz is alot of fluctuation (if you got more, then there is something wrong with your setup) leads to alot inconsistencies, then you are alot more picky than aprox every great gamer there has ever been.
I hope they'll release a mouse with the S2020 sensor (MX510) with a shape similar to the MX300 or the old Pilot mice. The new "office mice" shape might be nice, too (a combination of MX300 and old Pilot but with inward curves at the sides).
for the love of god. read the post titled "the cold hard facts about mx mice" and learn a thing of 2. Accell is dependent on a bunch of things. windows, registry, mouseware etc etc etc. usb also has a max baud rate (streamed data pc to mouse visa versa). I dont make them so i dont know much more but that article does, so have a read.
