When I say touched I dont mean people crying of joy (I would have used the word "moved" then maybe:p) if that is what you think. I'm talking about people on this thread that seems to get a surge of feelings because of it. May it be they feel stunned or amazed, its still touching them in one sense or another.

this guy is a GREAT editor and apparently a pro with after effects.

HOWEVER, it's just a bunch of clips he put together that make absoloutly no coherent sense.

when watching this short your interpretation is subjective, there is no right or wrong explanation. I thought I'd give a quick analysis to share my view.

this short begins with the 'death' of q3.demos.su and quake3 itself, but the essence lives on in the form of a bird. the bird, in flight, symbolizing hopes of this essence searching and finding a 'new game' to capture it.

after the title, the dream-like 'flashback' sequence begins. we know this is a representation of memories as we are shot through the eye into the pov of the character/maker. with an easily identifiable reference to the matrix we know for sure this is the beginning of a sequence in-game, the virtual world dormant in the mind.
to ultra-clarify this initiation we see a transition, reminiscent of the original quake 3 arena intro. player characters being taken and placed into the 'arena eternal', into their memories.
this section holds one of my favorite shots, the match on action of the scope of the railgun to the scope of a handgun.

the memories sequence is ended with a shot of the bird taking shape and flight (an impressively constructed shot), with a dissolve to the crash character weeping (for whom we are meant to identify, being our primary source of input).
for me I feel this signifies the maker's/our sadness for the death of the 'good old days'. this is enhanced with the final moments, such as with the camera, the essence of quake3, ascending like a bird. also the 'heavenly' slow motion sequence, where, through our memories we recapture our feelings and lust for the game. but, these feelings are not what they were, and q3.demos.su, cannot be re-captured. this sequence is lengthy to contemplate this. crash dissolves.

the final shot of the gravestone is accompanied by the flight of the bird, in hope of finding such times again one day.

therefore I think this film does make "coherent sense".

The reason I found it quite touching is because I can relate to it. Back in the good old days of playing Quake 3 on a 56k modem, we used to play on this Clan Arena server, loads of players who are now broadband players, but then were then 56kers, like me, used to play on it.

We had some great times on that server a few years ago and I miss those days, great characters and great games and great times.

It's also, to me, symbolic of the death of Quake 3. Although it's not officially dead it's obvious a few nails are getting hammered into the coffin and there aren't many others left in the bag.

It's kinda sad as well, with the slow paced music at the start et al. Maybe I'm just being to sensitive to the whole thing but I just guess I love Quake 3.

I think everyone can relate to it, and that's why this is quite touching.

I become sad every time I see this movie. It's so damn well made, the sadness in it just grabs you.. That one tear is so sad and lonely.. Amazing movie =) It's one of the very few I give a rating of 10 to. Very good job on making it <3

first of all, graphics-wise. This movie is well made, as in 'it was a lot of work'.

However, this movie isnt art, it's kitch. It's in fact extremly corny.
It tries to express some nobility and pureness, which is terribly misleading.

This movie makes me sad because it shows geeks can get attached to something so trivial as a gameserver. It's pathetic.

Not grasping the concept of friendship and fun, are we?

well if it had 'the most 100 lol frags / situations on demos' I would have grasped it.

Great movie in many ways. I have not seen the first 3 teasers... so this was totally to me. But it's great to show as much emotion is this movie as you did. Great to see that gaming is not only about fragging but also about dedication, passion and emotion. (love the tear on phobos!!)

As others mentioned, i actually was waiting to see the worlds most awesome frags ever too. But even though they did not reached my eye, I must say I feel really impressed by your movie-creation skills! Well done!!

Nice editing, although nothing that will set a new milestone for me. Content was rather non-existant, I really hated the Doom SG part on dm7 RL bridge. Best thing was by far the outro music, that one is awesome!
