I'll get up to the point where it would go to play the demo and then it just loops that I need to connect to localhost even though it says that I'm already connected and just keeps looping that. :(

cool !! i did that stuff too and watched me first q2 demo! any other commands to make it higher res, nicer lookin, enemy colour etc

The main commands to change the basic graphics in q2 is:
gl_mode, gl_modulate, gl_picmip, vid_gamma and intensity.

funny thing is that this is actually not at all impressing game if you compare it with purri's best performances. I guess non-optimal q2 setup fucked his aim.

give ips for better ones or upload them. Now that some of us installed q2, it would be nice to watch a few more demos.

Are there any q2 commands for FPS related stuff, for faster movement like Q3? I am sure someone once told me one for some extra UPS during jumps but I forgot it :(

best bots for q2 are 3zb2 and gladiator (btw id hired author of gladiator bot for q3 bots), you can get them from opti's site http://optimizer.se/filer.htm just don't expect much from them..

nice. I used purri's cfg and the game is now playble. I want to be able to see the weapons though and I can't find how. I used hand 1 and cl_gun 1 and it still doesn't show the weapons :(.

maxfps 90 is the standard? and is there any zoom, or any use of walking like in q3?

you cannot see weapon if fov>90. there are some clients that fixed this, but most popular ones (r1q2, nocheat) didn't.

maxfps in q2 is like maxpackets in q3. so with increasing fps you increase your network traffic, stop increasing it when you start geting pl. most players with good connections use 90, 100 or 120 (most servers have maxfps cap at one of those values). jumping in q2 is fps dependant like in q3, for some jumps on q2dm6 (rail) and q2dm8 you need 100 fps.

there is no built-in zoom but you can made alias:

alias +zoom "fov 25"
alias -zoom "fov 90"
bind mouse3 +zoom

there is great use for walking in duels, don't you hear footsteps?

Holywater is based on Nocheat and shows the gun with fov >90 =)

what I liked about the demo was that I downloaded just 3 small files in order to be able to watch it. Not too much trouble :)

how do u load a cfg and save one?

If you mean for Q2, just named it autoexec.cfg and put it in the baseq2 folder. Or type exec configname.cfg in console to execute it.

If you don't want it executed every time you start Q2, just when you have something spesific in mind, you can add it to a shortcut I think. with +exec configname.cfg in the shortcut. Not 100% sure on this though, but I know it works for Q3.
