I won't say that it was a bad movie - visually, it was fine. There wasn't all that much originality, but it was all cleanly done. Some of the reversing over already-seen content just seemed like a cookie-cutter solution to fill in some time. The frags were all nice, not much filler, but some repetition here and there.

My only major complaint is the music which literally gave me a headache. Constant thumping and a keyboard player who was clearly having an epileptic seizure through each and every song. Yes, the frags were synced, but like Acer said, I'd prefer watching it without any sound.

Biased reviewing aside, a 7-8 in my book. CTLB wins this by the tiniest margin thanks to more 3D angles and more creativity (but just as bad music).

You're a great asset to our country.

The question is more like, are you making a movie for your own enjoyment or for someone else. You have to consider making a final product that most possible viewers will like. That's why movie makers really shouldn't care about their own taste even if it is their movie and it's slightly personal. I'm not saying you should use pop music which generally is most listened to, but a little bit of everything, something catchy, something with power, something funny yet cool and classy etc. You would want viewers to hum along with the soundtrack while, and after they watch the movie. It matters so much for replayability. Lots of movies make a good job keeping the theme and music varied but this felt like a really bad acid trip the whole way through

No, you got me wrong. I'm speaking objectively and generally. It's possible to use music which covers more musical tastes and at the same time fitting better with the content than this has done, much because of that the same genre is used throughout the movie which is the main problem. One section might have been allright if it connected well with the content right there. This genre is too special and the songs not melodic enough to get appreciated by the majority. I know little about whatever this genre is called but it's the same as if I put much effort into editing, frags and syncing but only using cannibal corpse and deicide for the soundtrack even if it was well done. And that music is more commercial than this.

What most editors want is publicity and appreciation from people who watch it, especially when as much effort is put into the work as in this case (probably). You do not accomplish that from ignoring major (or many minor) groups of people. The music does not have to be conservative, look at old fooze movie for instance, but variation, originality and difference is often the key to keeping people interested in whatever artwork it is you are doing. This movie is posted as major which hundreds of people will check out and maybe thousands watch in the long run, although that will not happen much because of this big mistake in music selection and little variation. If the movie wasn't meant for the public and for everyone, including non ut2004 players to watch then it should not have been posted as major movie on ESReality.
I do support experimental movies, a movie can be good if it mostly only focuses on frags and ignores editing, but it is an incomplete movie and does not belong everywhere. Now I do not know anymore if ESR is a big site at all, but right now about 800 people are logged in which is relatively much, and I don't think this movie should be on the front page.

Yes I know, explaining something to (especially) gaming individuals takes some effort. Discussing matters of fact and opinions with them is close to useless because they must win. A bit off topic.. And no, that's not a stab at you, I don't even disagree with you actually. What I consider facts may as you say be based on experiences, but that's what criticism is all about, but at the same time experience is needed to judge something objectively.

I remember discussing skill in real life a few times. Having played many different fps games I have a certain knowledge of what is difficult to do and takes a lot of time to master. The person I was discussing with had only played one game, and as we know, the first game you really spend time playing becomes your favourite game in most cases. I would "laugh" at what he thought was impressive, and be able to back it up. He got pretty pissed off, but as I explained why I thought so and comparing to games like QW and the difficult things in Q3 and UT99 aswell as painkiller, he concluded with "well that's your opinion". When he said that, I understood it as he was saying "you're wrong" or "to me, you're wrong". How could I be wrong ?? Well yes and no, it's an opinion, but based on experience it has become the fact. I base my opinions on what I have seen earlier and also experienced, comparing all factors and judging from that. Not from what I like or dislike, there's the difference.

Example:
Railgun takes more skill than rocket launcher (biased opinion).
Hitting a midair rocket is harder than hitting midair rail (fact)
Movement in QW is more complex than in PK (fact)
The best player in ut2004 is more skillful than the best player in q3 (biased opinion)

If a guy only listens to backstreet boys and you tell him they have poor lyrics and aren't skilled musicians because you have listened to rock and many other genres your whole life, it's an opinion based on experience which becomes a fact because it's "just the way it is and true".

I don't really know what else to say. But I think you understood what I meant from the first post if you even bother to read this. I am not judging this movie because I personally can not take the music even if that's true, but based on watching hundreds of good and bad gaming movies I will give give the audio here a very bad grade because it can be varied and used infinitely better to improve the quality and feel of the movie which creates a much better overall impression. Conclusion: The audio in this movie is horrible compared to fragmovies in general, meaning the average of the "above average" movies.

They should make their movies as personal as it gets, imo.

well, most people comment about music because of their taste..but if the genre is used well with the content - then generally people won't care. making the content flow with the music is pretty important imo
