it was editing overloaded and too heroic in my opinion. Frages were average. But i dislike CS-movies in general : ). this one pleased me, though.

However i think it does highlight why CS is such a popular game type. There is a bit on train with what i can only describe as "pistol spam", shooting in the general direction of someone and getting kills. One of the guys says he uses his experience which imo is the primary skill in CS. You start bad because you don't know the camp spots, the more u play the more camp spots u know the better you become. I don't think it deserves to be the most popular game, i don't think the skill required is that high, but experience obviously counts. [/rant]

Yeah, kinda.
Once or twice a year I unzip my steam install and play a few games of CS, then rezip it after a couple of hours.
The first games I keep forgetting where I should hide and I get shot like 5/10, when I'm about to rezip and delete, it has inverted. Not that these are any good figures, but to me it partly proves your point (which I had never realized before, seeing as I play it *so much* ;)

The things that makes it such a popular game is the teamplay aspect of it, the money you get for winning rounds + killing people and that it's semi realistic (in between games like rainbow six and quake/ut series). The skill level ceiling used to be much higher (1.3 and previous versions), but valve only listens to n00b central (aka the steam and previously the official CS forums).
Most good players rush in pubs, or play very agressivly.

I think it's popular because an idiot can kill the best player in the world a lot more often in CS than in Q3/etc. If you go on a public server having never played QW, you're going to get 1 kill per hour, and that was probably a telefrag. If you play CS, you'll be mid scoreboard some rounds.

When he mentions "experience", he means his ability to read through the opponent's tactic and to predict other players' moves. He doesn't mean camp spots, since everyone knows the maps by heart after little time, except maybe for some spam spots where you can shoot through walls, but most are known by every good player.

Thats part of experince, anyway my point is the game is simplistic. There is very little in the way of movement. Two weapons which both have similar attributes. Three projectiles of different types, but the upshot is there is only so much you can do. It's easy to get into if you're the occasional player on a public and so you get that footing which acts as a staging post to go on to bigger and better things.
Let's face it everyone was a newb at the game they play at one time or another. I just think games like quake and ut will never get such a following like CS because there is too much to grasp. One of my friends played ut once and hated it because he got destroyed every single game he played (he doesn't have a pc at home). But then he played CS:S and really enjoyed playing it, because it's so much simpler and easy to get kills...
The simplicity of the game appeals to the masses, not the difficulty, does that make it a "good game"? Not imo, but i guess from a business point of view it does.

The point in official CS matches is not to get kills but to get rounds. There's a big difference. But I won't argue with you, I've explained countless times why the competitive scene of CS is not easier to get into than Quake's, but it won't alter your opinion anyway so w/e.

reason being, cs requires teambased skills, and is only played as a team game so you have to have 4-5 other people to play with, whereas the quake series are more based on individual skill, and are also played in 1v1 format. it's pretty obvious to see why the competetive cs scene would be so much harder to "get into". oh also the fact that cs has thousands more players and the competetive scene is much more active than that of any of the quake series games atm.

I know what the point of professional CS is. But IMO games like UT:CTF take a lot more skill to play than cs, you have the entire idea of cs in that there is an objective and to reach the objective u need teamplay, but then you need to be able to move use weapons wisely and communicate. If you watch a UT:CTF game and understand whats going on (i.e. have played it before) you will see a vast array of skills far more than the skills in CS.
Obviously this is getting into the realm that UT (in this case) is better than CS which is opinion base. My point is CS is more simplistic than any other game, thats why it has such a following and thats why i find it boring to play.

e.g.

CT position B on Dust2 (i run to B every round for 6 years) zZzZzZzzzZzZzzZZ

It's quite ironic that the movie is called complexity, when the game displays such simplicity.

Fantastic movie. Immersed me into the world of CS but instead of making it boring-- makes it a lot interesting and an enjoyable video to watch.

If you only download one CS movie this year, this looks to be a good candidate :D

Oh, and I hate to criticise, but they got the spelling on "criticize" wrong ("critisize" in the movie).
