Looks like it uses the S700 case. I had one of those and it really was a brick. Also the menus were crap so if they haven't upgraded the software inside then it might still be really bad.

I got a k750i and it is actually very good as a phone-mp3-camera combination. Quite slim so you can carry it about in your pocket. Also takes up to 2GB mem sticks so you don't run out of space.

So rediculous, save your money. Heaven forbid you might have to carry TWO annoying-bulge-in-the-pocket devices instead of one [three counting that other one :P]. Grab this and just buy a functional phone. The player retails for like $250US, and its pretty damn good w/ 20G of jack-off space [the scroll wheel is sexy]. People are fucking insane.

just a little tip about mp3 players...
sound quality means nothing if you plan on using stock head/ear-phones, or hell, even typical $10-$40 ones you'd find at the store. On that note, go with what you like about its features/size vs its cost.

I used a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 40gig for about 2-3 years, been so long I forget specifically, and it has worked great with a few hd hitches here and there over the time(and faceplate issues). I am an enthusiast for great audio, first had some of those sony style over the ear and behind the head ones(~$20) a long time ago, then to Shure E2C's(~$80-$99), and now finally at Westone UM2's(~$325) which I'm more than happy with. I also wanted a smaller mp3 player, preferably a flash drive as well (due to the fact I wanted something other than a hd that would damage from a short drop and can exercise with), and went with the Ipod 4gig nano (black). For the duration when I used the Creative player, I was pretty much anti-Ipod the whole way... never had much interest in their products due to many reasons such as A. lacking sound quality B. too expensive C. ITunes sucks D. I wasn't one of the many that believed Ipod = cool, anything else = not.

All said and done, its all bs. The sound quality with default sound settings is certainly a shock, its bass is heavily lacking and nonexistent and it sounded to have trouble producing highs, yet its mids sound fine. Using some of the many premade EQ settings, it fixed some of its sound problems (which were noticable with my UM2's), and all is well and sounds great now. The price for the player I believe is overpriced, $250 for a 4gig player is ridiculous for today's standards I think, but I was bent on getting a flash drive previous to its announcement. However, it has everything I wanted it to, and so much more, so despite the price... its worth. Even today, Ipod still simply means expensive sadly. ITunes have been 100% completely different than I was under the impression it was... I've had zero problems, which is odd, because I was always under the impression this program was evil and would give me hell.

This isn't meant to be some sort of review or anything, but just giving some information I found with going to my first Ipod ever as I probably was thinking the same things about them as you are. If you are bent on going with specifically a Sony product, I can certainly say you can't go wrong there. But I'd say first decide on what hdsize of player you want, 4gig or 60gig etc, and then the actual size of the player and whether you need all the fancy stuff like photo/video/games/etc........ sound quality means nothing unless you spend more money on amp/ear-headphones than the mp3 player itself.

I think i may get the Ipod nano for now. I usually use my mp3 player when i'm training and traveling to and from places. 4GB is enough for my needs. I prefer Sony only because they've been in the industry for ages but they seem to be in a bit of a slump at the moment. Always a few steps behind Apple :(

I currently use the Sony MDR-EX71SLB headphones.

there are problems with nano.... such as scratches are EASILY made.
ive used it from just pocket use, and scratches are noticeable
