Well i think everyone knows what they are getting, a mix of quake 2 and quake 3 multiplayer. With some changes.
I don't think there’s much that could make the multiplayer suck, from what I have seen in videos it’s a solid multiplayer game.
I'm sure some people will complain, happens with all games, infact i remember when quake 3 was released there were people saying it was crap, As long as people expect a well made multiplayer game, with the old school elements of quake 2 and three I doubt they will be disappointed.

But as said people will play it anyway – but aslong as it is a solid multiplayer game, we could see the top player taking home over $400,000 in the future, should be interesting to see how so much cash affects the community. (this is going by the likely money put in by the cpl, WCG, eswc, and other tourneys.

Will have to wait and see though.

as long as the netcode is good it doesnt matter if it sucks, because then a small MOD can be made . And voila a good professional quake game.

Well I think quake will have a massive following whatever happens, painkiller was a new game.

There has never been a quake series game that hasn't been played by tons of people. And for that matter there has never been a quake game that has been rubbish, so they have a good reputation, I’m sure it will be a solid game. – I doubt ID would of let it out of the office if it was crap. We will know very soon though:)

90% of players that will play are cs newbs, or other newbs, just like the giant newb wave that came at the beginning with q3, so it pretty much does not matter what the game is like, as long as the gfx are fancy. As for competitiveness, i dont think anybody can seriuosly plan to make money playing games, so if the game sucks, just stick to q3/2/w whatever, and have fun playing your fav game and dont bother if the new game just happens to suck.

I don't play to make money, but you can make money off a game, infact I wouldn’t be surprised if the top quake 4 player earns over $400k. Depending on how many tourneys it gets of course, but i think most major tourneys will pick quake4..
of course not everyone makes money..

it is true that "pro gaming" will advance a bit more with q4, there will be more/better organized tourneys with good prize pools. Still the number of players that make lots will be limited to about 10 at most worldwide. These are the players that could make a decent living in the long run. 400k$ a year ? i dont think so, but even 80k$ is enough. My attitude is, if you have fun playing competitively then do so, but dont waste 8 hours a day practising, unless you know you got a real shot. its just a waste of your time/life, and you're not young forever. I'm not adressing you personaly with that :)

Well i got to that figure by:

CPL world tour, $150,000 for winner, about 10 stops?, each with $15,000 for the winner, than add in other CPL events, WCG, ESWC, and so on and it could get that high. :).
I play for fun though - its not wasting your life if you enjoy it - but personally i do other things aswell, fitness, music, and so on.

But if you do earn money i don't see spending 5-8 hours playing is any different to spending 8 hours at work on a PC.
Of course your right though, only the top 10 or so will make any real money - at least for a few years. but other people still enjoy travel, lans, ect.

if quake 4 sucks come to islamabad .. we've got plenty of aftershocks
