This sphere once stood in glory at the central plaza of the World Trade Centre below the two main towers. It was recovered in this state from the site under all the rubble and somehow, although damaged, it survided.

It is now in Battery Park (just a few steps from the WTC) and stands as a temporary monument to those who died.

An eternal flame was lit about a year later.
