It's actually a pro evo tournament, with SF in it.
Those blocks he does against Chun Li's super thingybob aren't normal blocks, they are timed counters - very hard to do. To pull that combo off after is just sex :¬)
Hehe, this is the movie that made me and some of my friends get a PS2, so we could play SF3 3S.
The Combo u see here is often called the "Daigo Flip". Quite nice, but since i started playing the game for fun I have seen a LOT of other matches on video. I still suck like hell, can't even get my dashing to work fluently :P But there are combos and cool actions in this game, that are way more spectacular. If u r interested, just go visit this pages:
The way it works is instead of holding backwards to block an attack, you tap forward (or down, for lower attacks) almost exactly when you're about to get hit. Obviously if you mess up the timing of a parry, you're going to eat an attack in a big way.
The benefits of parrying over blocking is a) you get frame advantage and b) you take no chip damage by parrying (as opposed to blocking, where Justin's (Chun) super would have definately chipped away the rest of Daigo's (Ken) hp).
The super Justin used (SA II) has a retarded amount of priority, speed, range and chipdamage. There's no way for anyone to be able to jump over the super at that range after its been activated, you can't poke out of it and blocking would have lead to a loss anyway, so the only choice realistically was to full parry the super. Ontop of that, Daigo cancelled it into a 25% hp combo, in the biggest US fighters event.
Fucking ace ^_^
ps. there's a handful of other 3s videos like that, pyrolee vs AFM's being prolly one of the best, but none as popular as Daigo's
just for the info, Daigo's opponent in that match was Justin Wong who was widely regarded as the best SF 3 Chun Li player in the world. To pull those parrys off against someone as skilled as him is just insane. The best part was the final parry in the air.
edit : didn't see spoon's post on top. he explains it better.
Oh and this just may be better than what the topic reads. :P
Yeah, it's old, but it's still the most awsome clip I've seen concerning gaming :) It simply gives me the chills when he start blocking those kicks... Insanity!
That explains why a friend of mine after I showed him this sayd he'd played it a lot but he had never parryd on 15 hits in a row =) Looks like it has the same effect as a block though ;)
The difference was very important in this case, because if the player would have blocked he would have died of that bit of damage that would have come through.
This is some impressive shit. Who actually won this match in the end? Overall who is a better player justin or diago? I heard just was a big time mvc player.
i was actually at that event sitting in the front row. the reason the crowd went so crazy was because if daigo would have lost that round he would have been eliminated from the tournament. daigo beat justin and fought KO in the finals in which he lost. After the win daigo got on justin i got a chance to talk to him and he told me he had to bait out the super, so it was kinda preplaned on his part :)
from what i understand at that time KO was the best 3s player there. i know pyrolee couldn't enter because his friend forgot to register him. KSK from japan was there he is known for his alex but from what i saw talent wise, justin wong, and a hand full of the japanese were probally the top players at the tourney.
Love watching that vid makes my hair stand on end everytime.
So that version of sf still the best then? Cos i love sf2 Turbo on my snes and was thinking about getting a another version(and console) but dunno which ones is good......
Another point anyone know the best available version on the snes?
some good street fighter games are street fighter 3 3rd strike, capcom vs snk 2, and probally the Anniversity Edition which features all teh sf2 versions in it. oh yah i forgot, street fighter alpah 3 is pretty good :)
nice game tho :P
