I don't see how you can dis D3 when you think playing Q4 means you like playing good games.
D3 is quake 4 without a Railgun, and a chaingun replacing the shaft.
ALso people whined about the SG in Doom3, but its nowhere near as abused as q4's.
You missed the flaming contest, when people competed in downgrading Q4 in the most absurd ways possible, with a couple of months. The "Q4 is D3 but with a rail!! EHEHEH"-joke was even told several times back then.
I always say Quake 4 is the CPMA version of Doom 3. Because had osp or CPMA have done somethig it with it, the end result would have probably been very similiar to how Quake 4 is now. Minus some of the retarded bugs.
And what are the main whines about Quake 4 and Doom 3?
Crappy levels. (d3 levels were not great, but not any worse than q4's)
Railgun too easy to hit. (No railgun-but it had chaingun)
Shotgun is silly. (SG only did silly damage up close range.)
So my point is, if Doom 3 is shit game then so is Q4, because all the things people whined about Doom3 are in Quake 4 is some other shape or form.
And if someone liek q4 max can fix them them in q4 they could have done inside d3.
All this stuff you think is new like firining nades of jump pads could was possible in Doom3. Firing through teleporters.
Just no one took advantage of it in the level designs..
Not that I really care, but its annoying to hear people dissing one game, then making out that a slightly remixed version of the game they were dissing is worthy opf being called a gg.
Quake 4 is more of a slightly remixed version of Quake 2 and Quake 3. Or do you seriously think that the gameplay in Q4 is more similar to D3 then Q3?
If they would have modded D3 so it would be like Q4, then it would be like Q4. Thanks for pointing that out!
Alot of people have played both games, you are not alone. But you are alone on thinking that D3 and Q4 are so similar that if you like Q4 you must also like D3.

Not once did I say that?
I just said that those people who thought d3 was crap and q4 is good need to realise that with a tiny bit of work d3 could have been turned into how q4 is now with very little work.
It would not have taken long to do the changes. Just everyone gave up on it.
Just because it did not have the Quake label.
I assume that they/he compare the Quake 4 at the CPL with the DOOM3 at the CPL. Not Quake 4 with how good DOOM3 could have been if someone modded it. Think the difference is that Quake4 didn't 'need' any gameplay changes, but DOOM3 most certainly did.
I played DOOM3 and didn't like it at all, it was 'crap'. Played Quake 4 and I liked it, it wasn't crap. Hope I'm allowed to think that.
Yes but the gameplay changes could have been done in a very short amount of time. And my original point was that saying Doom 3 is shit and thiking q4 is good is very short sighted, because anyone with half a clue would realise that q4 is nothing more than doom3 with increased movement and a few weapon tweaks.
IN the hands of an expert that could be done in a day.
Now there are a ton of people bending over backwards to change q4 because they believe its the next best thing, when most are jumping on the bandwaggon cuz it has the quake name.
quake 4 has
-increased movement
-railgun
-lightning gun , this is a hell of a lot different than chaingun cant compare it.
-bounce pads
-shoot through teleports
-got rid of the darkness
-no weird arse in game GUI stuff.
Doom 3 had none of that.
You cant tell us that they are not significant gameplay changes, hence completely different games. Yeh a good coder may of been able to add all of that in a day. So?? were not talking engines and codeability of it all, were trying to crack open your skull and tell you that the game play is different. Much like what Brett Lee is doing to RSA batsmen =))
I know the gameplay is diferent. I'm just saying its shallow calling Doom 3 a shite game and then somehow thinking that Q4 is a good one.
The differences between them are really quite minimal.
Most of those points are more than debatable (many are not true)) and I could add just as many for d3 if I choose. For example.
*Per polygon hits.
*The added depth of the weapons. Using the mg throw off your opponets aim.
No shitty sound (openAl) or the need for an expensive X-fi card (because even Audigy 2 and 4 are still not that good)
Also d3 had jump pads, just no one gave it the time to make a level with them in (at the start). it even had the boucny grenades off jump pads etc.
it's just that no one bothered, because all everyone wanted was a straight port of q3 and cried like spoilt children when it did not arrive and gave up on it.
See you're talking about a different thign to I am. I'm not saying d3 was a better game, I'm just saying had people put the effort into d3 that they are putting into q4, then it could have been turned into Quake 4 in a matter of weeks.
Had that have been the case, I'm pretty sure that in itself would have forced raven and idsoftware to do a lot more with quake 4.
The bottomline is Q4 is nothing more than what Doom 3 would have become (not even as good because of the sound) had someone like osp or cpma did some stuff on it and I'm not talking huge amounts of work here.
It's idsoftwares fault for releasing the SDK so late, but they're hardly going to do that because q4 was in development.
It would have been very very danagerous for D3's MP to be a success simply because Q4 sold so many based on the strenghth of q3's Mp.
The fact is, you could port all of the q4 levels into the doom 3 engine.
then you would have perfect sound.
All that would be required then is to increase the movement speed.
And modify the weapons.
And don't you dare say q4 weapons are perfect. MG is too strong. SG is overpowered. railgun is overpowered cuz of crappy level designs and huge hit boxes.
The shaft is good, but it can totally spoli internet play because ping is suc ha big factor.
So when the gaming community is whining about q4, its funny cuz all they have now is what they could have been playing before xmas 2005.
Daler has been pretty successful at every game he's played especially quake 3 which was his first fps...... i dont see why you think he is 'trying' to go pro, he has already made over 30k in prize money. pretty sure that qualifies him as pro.
I think the technical definition of being professional is making enough money to live off. According to that, only a handful of gamers can be called pro, and I don't think Daler's one of them. Still, he has been pretty successful in the past as you said.
he doesn't deserve the title if the term does not technically apply to him.
there are a lot of guys who have placed well in tournaments or won them.
in the future, maybe those guys will be able to make a living as well.
(pretty amusing that anyone would making a living off of the video game, though)
"hear, hear" is not 'the correct term.'
while it probably pre-dated "here, here," some keen eyes managed to take the phrase and evolve it into 'here, here,' which I take to be a sort of patronical "I'm comforting you" sort of phrase. language is evolutory, as is apparent from my invention of two new words in this little paragraph. :)
daler has sponsorship which covers travel expenses so in his case it's not like he is losing out by giving each game a shot, plus he lives in texas afaik.
