this is the spec demos, on the winz pov in the first 9 min of the first map ...kind of lagy but nice to watch anyway when not all the players upload his povs.

i.m.o. if you play against a top q4 player and you give him hard times EVERY TIME even f*****g beat him (OWN him!) you don't gotta become a top q4 player. You are already there a top q4 player!

Q4 is turning out to be PK2. Except watching pk is better than watching q4. Since I never played pk, I can't compare playing them... but I can say I enjoy playing q4 more than watching q4.

Nothing against this particular game, I feel this way about every q4 game I watch. Maybe players just don't enjoy the game enough. When a player loves playing, it's much more pleasurable to watch that person play than to watch someone play who's miserable while playing.

q4 is nowhere near PK, but you'd know that if you had played PK

Most things that are full of shit can often become an acquired taste. I suspect Q4 will be like that and also hopefully some of the shit will get fixed.

and i do agree, when the players your watching dont enjoy playing, theres somthing missing, and its considerably less entertaining to watch. of course, it could be that most demos are just awful to watch to begin with, nevermind the players.

Probably you need to remove xbmdm1beta6.pk4 from your Q4Max folder.

nice match ..first map kind of all 4 winz but the other 2 really close & fun to watch.. gg's

first map phrantic looked like vo0 was testing how much pk-style is possible in q4. i liked it though, because this kind of aggressive gameplay is entertaining to watch. there were quite some situations, were i'm sure winz was very very low but managed to do the frag and regain control. don't give up aggressiveness sander, perfect it ! :)

Q4, in it's current state, is not pleasing to the senses. If a person is watching a game, it should please their eyes. If they are listening, it should please their ears. If they are playing, it should please their eyes, ears, and touch.

The truth is, a lot of people get sick seeing blood and guts. Every single one of those people is cut out of the pro-gaming market. And why? What purpose does blood and guts serve (and all the other unpleasing to the senses stuff), in a competitive/pro-game?

Pro-gaming is a business. It's in the business of entertainment. In business, only a fool would cut out part of their market unless there is an exceptionally good reason for doing so. Children are a huge market who are being completely excluded, instead of encouraged - like they should be. People who aren't sadistic maniacs who thrive on blood, guts and carnage, are also being excluded. Just imagine how much of the market is being excluded for no good reason.

You want pro-gaming to succeed? Make the games pleasing to the senses, make them so they do not exclude any market, and for God's sake, fix the bugs and make the game newbie-friendly before doing ANYTHING ELSE. Features are fucking great, but not as great as a thriving community. And never make the game newbie-friendly by compromising gameplay. Learn from normal sports. They don't sacrifice gameplay for newbies. They have newbie leagues for newbies. They have teachers and trainers for newbies. They don't simply stick 5 year-olds in with major leaguers and then talk shit to the kids when they can't compete. New people don't have the slightest clue how to play quake, and no one bothers to teach them. Fuck... just add a fucking multiplayer tutorial, or some fucking tooltips. Let the robots teach the newbies. People don't need to do it.

This shit is not complicated. It's not difficult. It's not something you cannot learn from normal sports (since all pro-sports are a business, just like pro-gaming is). Video games have huge advantages over non-electronic games. The advantages lie in the ability to create literally any game you can think of (you could even make quidditch, if it was worth it), and the ability to compete with people around the world without leaving your home. No other sport can utilize the internet the way video games can, and this is an enormous advantage for video games.

I can't do everything... the whole fucking community needs to do their part. Believe me, i'm contributing in my own way, behind the scenes. And this type of short essay is another form of contribution. So i'm doing my part, but very few others are doing theirs.

But most importantly, the school-teacher-tutorial initiative is a must, theres lot of good info here and there, but theres not a definitive Q4 guide for the pro-wanabee. And if you post noob questions on forums or IRC you wont get anything useful most of the time. A real problem, but it seems that nearly nobody cares.

You don't like how Q4 looks? There are some competitive games that look better.

There is a way to remove blood and gore from most games. For example most competitive Q3 players turn off blood and gibs from play -- they just make it harder to see.

Other "real" sports are sponsored by government and big companies. If they'll understand that the whole e-sport (not only top players) should be sponsored then there will be more pro gamers who live by playing computer games. There sure are other aspects -- you can't compare the kinds of sports.

This shit _is_ complicated and _is_ difficult! Why do you think that people who've spend _hundreds_ hours of gameplay don't always win? Because there're people who has talent and brain. Yes, teachers can help somewhat but see my above statement. So, right now people study a game by playing and watching demos (rarely reading some articles). _Kids_ can't play well -- their brain and nerves are too weak. And they mostly can't communicate well so they can't create a "newbie league" _themselves_. If somebody will be _interested_ (mostly in money) in e-sport it'll be a big difference to what we have now. Money is what "makes world go 'round".

Pro gamers don't give much money for game creators so they're not that overly interested in spending a lot of _money_ on multiplayer support. That was told a million times already.

I'd actually guess that more top players in Q3 had com_blood "1" because it was another useful graphic when using MG/LG type weapons.

I think they mostly relied on the hit sound. Though I use blood for Q3 myself (no gibs).

Blood is an extra visual aid (Like cg_lightningimpact) and a lot of player had it turned on just for MG/LG. So I expect they relied on all of these things :)

In Q3 the sound of hit is much more relieble to know how much damage you're giving. _I_ mostly relie on the sound. :-)

Maybe the problem with pro-gaming is how many kids, or, teenagers, are involved. Kids care more about 'being cool' than making money. But kids, I can assure you, the whole 'cool' thing will dissapear once you get to job age. At that point, you will realize it's more important to make money than to be cool.

What pk4 files are in your Q4Max folder? If you have xbmdm1beta6.pk4 you might want to try removing it.

I stopped to download and try to run the demos: too much of a hassle to keep up with the latest maps/patchs/paks. Not only I have to finds what pk4 I miss, Ihave to spend my money to download the files (Internet is not free in Russia :-( ).
