FonFon is nowhere to be seen... i guess q4max devs will (or already are) doing something along the lines of gtv because of the cpl which strives on spectators.

I have mixed feelings on GTV. As a hardcore gamer it's great.
But as someone who wants to see gaming grow, you have to understand that the general public need a more user friendly way of seeing the game, which is where Radioitg and TSN do something GTV can never do.

Seeing as the most basic of things appear to be a big deal for q4, and the fact that it has a tiny user base, I'm not convinced it will ever see the light of day.

I say hold every gaming event in sweden and crank those video streams up to 1000kbits:)

There is simply no more convenient way to watch live fps games and if its made well its not more complicated than speccing a game on a normal server.

And besides i dont think everybody will quit hosting vid streams if q4tv "should" be made, if the creator doesnt include a **board ad after each frag.

Ads can be good, but only if they are done right. Hopefully the creators of future gtv's do it right.

Both the CPL events from New york and Sweden were practically flawless, simply because they had the I.T. infrastructure in place.

we need GTV for smaller events, like leagues without prizes, irc leagues. events who are just for fun :)

Quite honestly, if spectators can only watch small, crappy video, e-sports will not grow. Video might be easier, but it fucking sucks big, fat cock. It's better than nothing, and that's it.

Besides, GTV could be designed so it's easy to use for anyone.

gtv/wtv is limited. ETTV is the one you wanna be finding out about.

I don't think its good that you can choose the player while speccing. Why? Because imo it's funnier if everyone can see the same action like wtv/gtv. So everyone can see the same mistakes and nice frags.

Yeah you're right it is was well exciting watching all those CTF EC games where the camera was stuck on the defender.

Cameras need to be manned

It was usually stuck because the GTV person was in small screen talking on irc while everyone spammed "GTV FFS SWITCH POVS!"

That's not manning a camera, so I persist : a camera needs to be actively manned :p

OTOH, the gtv delay is necessary, but some specs still don't get they'll have to wait some time for the pov to switch at their end after an active cameraman actually switched it :)

i think the thing is that they should probably have a go at the netcode before trying gtv... spectating on a normal 30 ping server is enough to make me seasick what with the jerky spectators POV, now imagine that on some random gtv server with everyone spamming "what, how do you spec games... GTV_WATCH!!! what???", the laggyness wouldnt bear thinking about.

Gtv etc, is a must for people with crap connections like me. Cant be the only one surely.

i prefer a videostream along with commentary. the only problem is the quality of the streams caused by connection probs :/

cpl wt final had also a very good stream
cpl winter was fine until the final...

cpl wt final was maybe the only one i watched without any rebuffering but thats because mtv got major bandwith at their disposal. And even their the quality was grainy.

i like that i can just alt+tab to any other program while using the mediaplayer for the stream. for gtv i always have to use alt+enter, wait until it's loaded etc. streams are more like watching TV.

If you consider that the aviable bandwidth for the average user will grow inevitably, a videostream with a synched commentary might be the best solution. Specially when you want to reach people with it who might be interested in a game but dont have it yet. Not to talk about the hassle to synch a stream with whateverTV.

Like somebody already mentioned above, what about the small leagues/cups/tours/fun tournaments which can't afford/don't know how/don't have time to use such technology. GTV is much better for such events, whereas streaming is good for LAN and the biggest online tournaments.

In the end the question "what is better for who" is totally pointless since we just have to accept what raven or whoever might give us.

I think that the best solution would be a GTV working as the ETTV is said to work or as the HLTV works.

What you also want is the opportunity to use it both as an old GTV and a new form of QTV (QuakeTV), where tou are able to sync streams in one way or another. But the thing is that this will take a load of bandwidth if you want high quality resolution and sound, if you do not have an awsome snippet of code that compresses the stream in several layers before it goes out on the stream. But still, it will be half-bad.

In the end, it is BroadBand-TV which is the ultimate solution.
But I do hope that a solution comes in the near future because we really need a form of GTV for the tournaments. They can start of with a GTV and develop it further instead of not doing anything.

If we look back we have had GTV for cups and tournaments - small and big - hosted by the community / Scene people who wanted to help and contribute. These persons who gave up their time to pleasure others. We will still need them for the next generation of software that, hopefully, come out.

Therefor we need a GTV sooner than yesterday (why did raven/id not implement it from the beginning...)
