Ok, check it out... Shorten the games to 10 minutes a map. Put 2-3 minutes of commercials in between each map (in GTV or streaming video). Then it's just like normal tv which uses pretty much the exact same ratio (10 min tv time, 2-3 min commercial time). Besides, everyone smokes weed now so we all have short attention spans.

You serious? I almost cancel my sky TV daily from the amount of adverts. Occasionally they even split for a break 5 mins after a programme has started (E4 does this fairly often)

they have 1 more break per hour, then us. and there allowed to lie as well :)

I agree with you. In fact, it would work perfectly with the idea of implementing ads into an online ladder (the one I talk about in my esports improvements thread). By setting it up the way I describe (more or less), the spirit of gaming would remain alive. It really is the next logical step. It would be just like playing a normal video game except with real spectators and real money. The way we're headed now is like trying to change video games into normal sports. The problem there is, video games are better than normal sports. Think about all the limitations normal sports have compared to esports:

Physique
Nsports: Have to play with people of similar build. Women cannot play men.
Esports: Everyone can play together, as physique makes little or no difference.

Distance
Nsports: You must travel to your opponent, or they must travel to you.
Esports: No one has to travel anywhere. All esports can be played over the internet.

Reality
Nsports: All normal sports are limited by the laws of nature and reality.
Esports: The laws of nature and reality can be anything you want.

Injury
Nsports: Happens regularly.
Esports: Not even an issue.

Now you might view the fact normal sports have a physical aspect as being an advantage for normal sports, but if you really look at the four categories above, you'll realize none of the esports advantages would exist without the removal of the physical aspect. So in truth, the removal of the physical aspect is the greatest strength esports has. Which is oddly coincidental since we're moving past the age of physicality anyway... we have robots and machines which do all the hard work for us. The natural progression is to make a sport which emphasizes the mind and soul, instead of the body.

There is a lot left to be done in esports. It is still a child, which should be nurtured with loving care. And when thinking of money... do not get caught up in it. Money should only be used to improve esports - never for the purposes of selfishness and greed. Just think, anytime you need to, "Will money improve this aspect of esports, or will it simply increase the size of my bank account?". If it's the latter, it probably isn't a good idea.

And most UK TV channels have 15mins of program then 2-3mins of adverts. For sports however they have far less breaks.

i definitely think injury in e-sports is an issue. RSI is everywhere. hell, i've developed quite a few chronic injuries (as well as shitty posture) from playing games for so long

in italy they even show commercials DURING a football game like when a player is going to take a corner. very disturbing really

i've seen a couple of games now from both Americup and Jade Inv. Is it just an impression or do most players suddenly have a good ping?

the Jade Garden invite is a west coast only tourney with most players being in the Los Angeles/San Francisco area (5-6 hours apart); explaining why most of the pings you'll see there are going to be sub-30's. In ggl, most players are east coast where the internet connections are better imo and it's not uncommon to see a lot of sub-40 pings.

the problems arise when you start combining east/central/west players. K9 and FITH are west teams, but all the other teams in ggl are east coast teams. so we have to play them on Dallas servers - the east teams ping 30-60's there, we ping 40-80's. god forbid we play teams like Black Dragons (#1 in the east) who have a player that lives in Austin, Texas (and pings 15 to the only server we can play that team on).

the ping situation in the US is bearable, yet still quite painful at times. imagine russian and italian players having to play matches against each other on UK servers on a regular basis.

Russia to UK is like 100ms+

so is my san francisco ping to chicago (where most east teams try to play us)

At least in q3 you could adjust your shots. In q4, you can't tell if you are hitting them half the time (dropped hitsounds and whatnot).

Funny Scooby said it exactly opposite - that he was in ping disadvantage 60/30 :P

maybe that was in nomadic's server choice, on the first and 3rd server (dfw) nomadic pings 55-60.

From what I have heard the first server was nomadic choice. Then for the second they should play on scooby's, but admins forced him to play on different than they agreed before (with 60/30). Then for the third they agreed on the nomadic's again, cause tho scooby was still on disadvantage it was still better for him than the one they played second map.

Funny how things vary when viewed from different povs.

incorrect. 3rd was in favor of scooby's. But enough of the server nonsense, comment #21 is justified due to the fact that nomadic is completely knocked out.

yea it was 55-60 for nomadic and 35-40 for scooby on the 3rd server.

yeah these two shouldn't have played each other for the first round of playoffs for americup :)
