It was in a CPL tournament, that's right.

It was on Q3Tourney4. Blue vs Excalibur played using Q3Comp.

At that time, it was Q3Comp and OSP being used as tournament mods, with Q3Comp having a slight advantage.

On the map, at times when Blue shot Excalibur with rail and shotgun Excalibur took no damage at all. A clip was later released with him doing a dead on hit with shotgun yet Excalibur took no damage.

Blue lost that game and was pretty much out of the tournament, which was a huge upset since he finished as #32 I believe, while people expected him to finish much better. After that, he stopped playing Quake 3.

However, some people noticed something felt wrong and checked the game more closely, so they saw that his hits didn't actually connect. A video was released and the controversy was quite hectic in the quake community.

After some discussion, CPL made an official announcement about it and decided to move Blue up to eight place I believe (with the money to show for it). Thanks to the Blue bug Q3Comp was forever disabled from all further tournaments.

it should be noted that blue's enemy made the bug happen with console commands he found out in the weeks before the event. most disgraceful shit ever to happen at a q3 tournament.

Yes, excaulibur knew what he was doing and used illegal command values to activate the bug. Blue and the CPL dealt with it really well though and Q3Comp was unfairly maligned as the bug was to do with pmove code that both Q3Comp and OSP contained.

wasn't he just using pmove_fixed 1 and com_maxfps > 125?
Were that illegal commands in the tourney?

He used cl_125 "1" and com_maxfps "9999".
