Yesterday evening, the ESL Quakelive Europe staff announced their Country Championship 2011 which should start in September:
The Country Championship is a league, followed by playoffs, in which several Countries fight each other. In the end, one country can crown themselves as best country of 2011! Awards are given to the top 3 countries and stay on the team profiles.
Everyone can become Team Captain for his country, just make sure you convince us, so we know you are the correct person to guide your team!
The mode for this competition isn't yet decided and a poll for the community to choose between CTF 4v4 and TDM 4v4 is running until Sunday 14th!
The Captain applications are also open until Sunday 21st of August. See the details in the announcement.
Only a few days after the end of the action, GreasedScotsman has made available all the demos collected from the QuakeCon 2011 Quakelive Duel and TDM tournaments. For now, they're not on the official website, but on Trance's webspace along with plenty of other events' demos.
Also, the man from Quake-Live.tv started to upload the official VODs on the YouTube channel of the 2011 convention. All of them should be available tonight.
I prepared a coverage post with all the duel and TDM results with links to the demos and known VODs (no result spoilers). And also some more links to galleries and interviews.
Thanks to the QuakeCon 2011 staff and the streaming staff for the good coverage!

Yesterday on Next Evolution's website was announced the recruitment of a Quakelive squad. Sebastian "spart1e" Siira and Kévin "strenx" Baéza are now the two quake duelist who will represent nevo, starting with QuakeCon 2011 in Dallas! The manager for these two players will be Dmitriy "nicerdicer" Khorev, who's also the admin of the JeeSports quake cups.
The announcement also tells us that strenx will be going in Kiev in a few days to boot-camp with the likes of Cypher and av3k. And maybe to play the ASUS Summer 2011 from there. For spart1e, the training plan remains unknown so far.
It was not a secret that Fnatic wouldn't send the two players to QuakeCon and lost interest in Quakelive after the games announcement for the new Intel Extreme Masters season. They also made an announcement to say goodbye to their quakers yesterday.
Next Evolution is a rather new structure in the world of e-sports, their website was just launched a month ago and this is their first Quakelive section. Props to Zac "IMaG" Bell for stepping up in the Quake world in these not so bright days.
Update: The head manager of NeVo has been AFK for 2 weeks and someone decided to "close" the team. Now, spart1e will attend QuakeCon 2011 with his own money (or not) and strenxre-joined Fnatic.

I've been wanting to run a duel cup on ESL with some alternative maps lately. That wouldn't be a big cup, just something for fun... The idea would be to have duel maps that are never played. I know most of them don't get played because they have poor layouts or just don't fit duel too much... but whatever, it's for fun :)
I don't want a map list with more than 5 maps, and maybe only 3 maps would be even better. So far I would ditch Phrantic and Focal Point... And I'm not too sure about Wargrounds and Concrete Palace.

David "Affentod" Hiltscher currently works as the VP of Gaming Communities at Turtle Entertainment, the company behind ESL. Before that he was one of the founders of the German website readmore. At the end of May 2011, he wrote an interesting article on Fragster about the decline of the eSports journalism. The piece is spread in two part articulated around a top10 each: the reasons of a decline and new hopeful trends.
It's only today that a translation to the English language from Philip "Nazroth" Hubner was published on ESFI World.
Of course ESReality is mentioned, as well as maybe other esports websites. Try to guess in which part of the article:
"After the success of Wikipedia, Huffington Post and the reader reporters of the BILD newspaper, a lot of eSport websites were anxious to let the readers do more and more work – not very successfully though. The number of guest articles and interesting blogs on fragster and readmore has constantly declined over the past years. The concept of ESReality also became meaningless, as the website is now mainly used as a platform for advertising by tournament organizations. Gameriot, the American blog-focused website, succeeded temporarily, but is now offline."
The Reloaded VII will take place near Adelaide at the St. Clair Recreation Centre of Woodville from the 15th to the 17th of July.
The LAN party will feature two Quakelive duel tournaments, Pro and Amateurs, run by mick05 from 4Seasons Gaming. These will be played during one day and start on 19:30 CDT, 15 July 2011.
The ASUS Summer 2011 will feature Quakelive once again, but this time the tournament will only be online. The main tournament will be played the 30th of July, just after 4 qualifiers. 8 players will be invited, while 2 players will get a slot from each qualifier.

The 92nd ZOTAC QL Duel Cup is taking place this Sunday 17th of July. Last week strenx added another victory to his achievements after defeating av3k 3 maps to 1 during the final.
The announcement of the games selection for the ESWC 2011 a few weeks ago and for the IEM 6th season today on ESL-World both had something sad in common: they don't feature Quake.
In both case there is no explanation given, and another game is more or less taking over the Quake slot: Counter-Strike: Source in ESWC, and Leagues of Legends in IEM.
I tried to contact ESWC to get a statement, but I didn't receive any reply so far. On Carmac's twitter, IEM's manager, it's also hard to see any explanation on this choice.
Quakelive is now left with 3 major LAN organizations: DreamHack, QuakeCon and ASUS.
Update: I finally got a reply from the new Head of Competition of Games Solutions, Camille Versteeg, mostly known for his work as a CS admin during several tournaments.
"Sorry for replying late, but I'm the new head of competitions at Games Solutions and wanted to clarify the situation of dropping Quakelive as one of our games at the ESWC 2011 event.
ESWC picks it games based on different factors. One of these factors are numbers(mostly generated by the community itself). For example numbers of people subscribing to our website for a certain game, numbers of attendees at previous events, numbers of players/spectators and this year none of our partners showed interest to host a Quakelive qualification. All these numbers and many other factors are taken into account when picking a game. This year we gotten to a point that Quake wasn't viable anymore. The numbers couldn't back up us picking Quakelive. Whether we love the game or not. Dropping Quakelive also has nothing to do with picking up Counter-Strike:Source.
We do understand the disappointment in the community but I think Carmac explained the situation surrounding Quakelive perfectly in his interview
with derQuaker.com.
I hope in the future we'll see a new spark in the FPS duel community which will enable us to pick it up again. Remember to register at the website next season to make sure your game gets a chance of getting picked. It does matters.
If there are any other questions. Please let me know.

Just a day after the announcement of the games selection for the Intel Extreme Masters' 6th season and its notable absence of Quake, moppz from derQuaker went to interview Michal "Carmac" Blicharz, Product Manager and the public face of the IEM. The main topics discussed are Quakelive and its community, id Software, LoL and the future of esports.
Here be the mandatory excerpt:
Was it hard for you to drop out Quake Live?
“Of course it was hard to drop Quake Live. It's a fantastic game to watch and Quake is the game that introduced me to the world of professional e-sports. Not only because I like the game, but also many of the top players are my very good friends. [...]"
The interview was made in English and can be read at derQuaker.
