The qualifications for the coming online Asus Winter 2011 QuakeLive are starting tonight with the first cup at 11:00 CST. The next 3 cups are planned for the 10th, 12th and 14th February (Happy Valentines!).
The format is Single Elimination with bo1 matches except for semifinals and final which should use bo3. The map pool is Blood Run, Lost World, Furious Heights, Hektik, Aerowalk, Dismemberment and Vertical vengeance.
The top3 players from each cup will qualify! Also, 4 invited players will join them to form a Group Stage of 16 players.

The eighth season of the
ESL Major Series is coming soon! And as the game type will be TDM 2v2 instead of 4v4 in the previous season, we will be running two cups this week to have a taste of 2 rather new 2v2 maps: Hidden Fortress and Devilish!
The first cup will be played on
Wednesday 9th of February starting at 14:00 CST and will use
Hidden Fortress. The second cup on
Sunday 13th at 13:00 CST will use
Devilish. The format will be Double Elimination brackets with best-of-1 matches with 16 teams. The number of teams could be increased depending of the amount of sign-ups.
So far, only teams with 2 members will be allowed to sign up. If you wish, you can create a subteam attached to your team to sign up. Thursday 3rd of February, the ESL Benelux staff will run a Quakelive 1v1 tournament For players from Benelux. It will be the first of several Winter Cups featuring many games of the Benelux section. The
sign-ups will be open until Thursday 12:30 CST!
The maplist will consist of Blood Run, Campgrounds Redux, Furious Heights, House of Decay and Lost World while the tournament format should see a Group stage and Playoffs. The top3 will be rewarded with ESL Premium months.
No stream was announced so far.
Update: The post was un-majored as it seems the cup is only for the Benelux players.

Heaven Media Awards in 2009 and a few days late after the new year, the
TEK9 Awards of 2010 were just announced yesterday. Mostly focused on CoD4 and Quakelive, the awards will try to determine the best players, events and movies of 2010 through a few categories.
The voting process is public, but you need to be logged on the TEK9 website in if you want to be counted in. The polls will be closed on Wednesday January 19th.

When I first saw by
aNtii is a relaxed movie without any real impressive frag. But the strong point would be the editing and sync'ing while the config also feels smooth.
For this movie I tried to set a "special" mood with some quiet music & colors to create the perfect mellow atmosphere followed up by some decent footage. Enjoy!

That's the first time I actually see an interesting/sober keyboard made for gaming. And that thing is only 20€.
If that ever distributed in France I think I'll get one.

Code S
- Group Stage (32 players)
- Top32 players of 2010 are divided into 8 groups of 4.
- Top2 players from each group advance
- The 3rd and 4th player from each Ro32 group go to "Up and Down Match"
- One group will play each day
- The groups are determined by a public lottery held on the following Monday of each GSL Sponsorship League
- Playoff format: Ro8/Quarters, Ro4/Semis: bo5, Finals: bo7
- Players from Ro16 remain in Code S
Code A
- Ro32 to Semis: bo3, Finals: bo7
- 4 foreign players are seeded Code A (Mainly winners of other worldwide tournaments)
- If no foreign players, more players will be brought in through the Preliminary Rounds for Code A
- Winners of Ro8 go to "Up and Down Match"
- Winners of Ro16 remain in Code A
- Rest of the players will have to go through the Preliminary Rounds for Code A
Code B
- 172 players from top Diamond League in Korean Battle.net server
- Foreign players can always compete in the Preliminary Rounds for Code A disregarding their ladder point
Up and Down Matches
- Bottom 16 from Code S and top 8 from Code A will compete
- 8 groups of 3 players: 2x Code S, 1x Code A per group
- 1st and 2nd from the Code A tournament pick their group
- Rest of the groups will be randomly selected
- The 3rd group rank from Code S play Code A player in a bo3 match, the winner goes to Code S
- The loser of the match will play the 4th group rank from Code S in a bo3 match
- If you are the 4th in your group in Code S, you only have one opportunity to remain in Code S
Code A Preliminary Rounds
- Bottom 16 players of Code A, 172 players from Code B and 4 recommended foreign players will compete (192 players in total)
- Registration for the Code A Preliminary Rounds will start a week before each Preliminary Rounds
- The top 12 players from the tournament go to Code A
- Single Elimination Brackets, 64 players (32x Code S, 32x Code A)
- Only tournament of the year mixing Code S and Code A players
- Same format as the GSL Pre-Season Tournaments (Ro64 to Ro16: bo3, Ro8 & Ro4: bo5, Finals: bo7)
- The best 16 players in the world get invited
- 2 from North America, 2 from Europe, 2 from Taiwan, 2 from China and 8 from Korea
- The Korean players will be the top8 from the total rankings
- 8 teams participate in the tournament
- The teams are selected by the points of their members in Code S and Code A
- Matches will be played as 1v1 for each round with the winner playing the next round. When a player loses, the next in his team list steps in
- Ro8 to Semis: ft4, Finals: ft5 (ft = First to x wins)
- The Korean players will be the top8 from the total rankings
- The top 10 players of the year's rankings will play
- Matches are bo7
- Day 1: 10th vs 9th

The 61st ZOTAC QL Duel Cup will be played this Sunday. As usual it will consist of SE brackets using the bo1 format until the quarter finals. Then the games will be played as bo3 with the exception of the Final being played as bo5. The prize still is
100€ for 1st place!
Hopefully, Quakelive won't crash again!

ESC|k1llsen won his 2nd EPS Germany Quakelive title during the
Alienware Finals. In this 2nd, and last, Quakelive season, he once again faced
mTw|calipt in the Final.

Games-Solution officially announced the 8th edition of the Electronic Sports World Cup on 2nd December 2010. The total cash prize will be $220,000 and the Finals are expected to be played at the end of 2011 (November/December).
The games selection is still in process. Also, the venue and date of the Finals should be announced at the beginning of 2011.
