Cypher and k1llsen still looking as good as in the Stage 3 finals. They will be tough to beat. Rapha also seemingly unaffected from his recent tragic loss (ofc, he's a robot).
Raisy probably won't be going anywhere, but as a kind of replacement, vengeurr has been really coming into his own. Even av3k, Chain, Dooi, and some others might potentially be good for a surprise. And ofc you can never count out Cooller having a once-in-a-decade day and just owning everyone.

Hello Quake addicts.

Help me out. I was just remembered of a Quake movie that has Immortal - The Darkness That Embrace Me as sound track. Would like to watch it again. I'm pretty sure it was well known and someone remembers it.

Also another one that has Fear Factory - (Memory Imprints) Never End as soundtrack. That one could have possibly been a Q1 or Q2 movie though..

There are some interesting demos listed still that I'd like to watch, that you cannot download anymore ("Unfortunately this file is no longer available on ESR").

Does anyone still have an archive from back in the day? I had a lot of demos saved, but suffered a HDD crash sometime in the 2000s in which sadly almost everything was lost.

Planned to go to watch the QPL stage 2 finals in the flesh, but just found out I missed my chance for a ticket.
Well, I guess that won't be the last Quake tournament. (Or maybe it is?)

So, who of you is going? Have you been to events before, like Lucca recently? How are these big LANs these days?

So I installed QC today. Apart from turning the music off, adjust FOV, sens and key bindings, I haven't done much. As it is, the game is unplayable.

I don't know if to adjust for ping. Sometimes shots hit seemingly without delay, sometimes they go right through.
Enemy model visibility is absolute garbage.
Worst of all, the sound. Oh my god, the sound. It just sounds totally muffled and random. I have zero idea where my opponent is. Sometimes it even seems to come from the exact opposite direction.

Oh, and btw, the game gfx look completely different to what it looks like when I watch streams, no matter if I set gx to minimum or maximum. The gfx just look way different, and actually much better when I watch streams.

Another question - where do I set my FPS limit at? Is that even important, as in Q3 (-> constant 125 fps, otherwise limited jump height)?

Well, I suppose, don't bother. I remember starting Q3 demo up for the first time, which felt just right from the beginning, and just got better with config tuning etc. QC just feels wrong from the beginning. If a game doesn't feel right per default, there's probably no way to fix it.

Seriously though, what I really can't believe is the level of play / aim today. I can recall Cypher having some nutty LG aim in his QL prime, but that's the only parallel I can draw to what's currently happening in QC.

"Back in the day" we used to believe that for example ZeRo4's rail aim was out of this world. Now this level of aim seems average.

There's constant tournament action, and the level of play is consistently such that would make up highlight reels a decade ago.

this goes out to people who also happen to have a logi g3 or another mouse with the same laser sensor

as i told in my previous post, i (would) love the improvements in this mouse, its new material, the new teflon feet
sensor is awesome responsive as well, BUT here comes the great BUT

it tracks way further than any sensor i've had before, i never had problems with any optical, and the microsoft laser (which is also very good) also tracked a little longer distance than an optical but not enough to disturb me
with the logi, if you lift it up ~1cm, it still registers movement

so. how do you guys deal with it? having any problems with that? or did you get used to it?
cause i sure cant play with that mouse right now

.. the radio with the biggest TFT display in a standard DIN (standard autoradio) shaft =)
it's a really nice little thing, supports mp3/wav/wma, dvd audio and video and even divx, has a menu with lots of fancy options, all the kinds of inputs and outputs you could imagine, astonishing sound quality, and it will make other guys jealous! =)
so far i am really happy with it and can only recommend it

on a side note, im off to some supposed kick ass party now.. well at least its the only party in my village every year

maybe ill post some pics so that you see how crazy people here are :P

same with blood (edit: link) which is based on the build engine too, which might be even better (sadly there is no windows port however)

how come noone of the fps game developers came up with something equally entertaining since then?

dont try making it realistic, start making it FUN again
technical revolutions may sell - but a real fun game that you dont only wanna play once to get kicks out of it, will sell even better, i guarantue you that

edit: there was a trickjumping video that i downloaded off own-age.com, the dm6 part of it had a dnb song which was xtreme megaleet bass ownage (real heavy bass on that song), i want that song, ah yeah and i will look for that video and tell you the name of it (i wont download it due to my traffic limits, 4gb/month is hard)

Tribulation, Michael Flatley's Q3 Trickjumping Movie is finally out. I guess all of you have heard about it already, if not, read the announcement posted on XSReality earlier.

Also, for more info, you might want to read Michael Flatley's original post at OPC.com.

The Movie is 20 minutes long, and promises to feature the best baseq3 trickjumps ever. You can download the file (600 MB) from two hosts already, more mirrors will appear later. Also, for the 56k'ers out there, there will be a low quality version with 300 MB the next days.
