Analysis: The Consequences of Reducing the Skill Gap (55 comments)
Posted by storm @ 08:31 CDT, 23 August 2018 - iMsg
I was watching this on youtube and realised this applies to QC so much. Before watching this I was thinking of how QC should have managed champions and abilities based on fighting games, ie; the basic movement and health being the same but with unique abilities. This video goes into a lot of depth about modern fighting games being dumbed down in the same way Quake is.

I made a WmoByssus (30 comments)

I had a WMO laying around and an Abyssus v2, so decided to frankenmod it. The result is WmoByssus.

I even managed to get the scroll wheel working. Luckily the old optical scroll hardware could be desoldered and the abyssus one put in it's place. I just had to file the sides of the wheel down a bit.

After wiring it up I sanded down the plastic feet rims and stuck on some Zowie feet. Works great!

Old channel 4 documentary about Sujoy/Timber/Blokey (2 comments)
Posted by storm @ 23:23 CDT, 23 June 2018 - iMsg
It was called 'Game boys' and it followed their preparation for Babbage CPL. I remember watching it, it even had parts where I think Timber had to get permission from his school to go.

I'd like to watch it again, does anyone have a copy? Also as a side note, does anyone have Q3 demos of Timber? I used to be a fan of his.

ps - while searching for demos I found this little goldmine of QW demos that has a lot of Sujoy and Timber. Although no Q3 ones. https://www.quaketerminus.com/hosted/methosq_demos/qdemos.htm

Modern gamer QC critique (5 comments)
Posted by storm @ 23:22 CDT, 16 April 2018 - iMsg
Hey all,

I have always been interested in the difference in perceptions between old gamers and modern gamers when it comes to a game like QC which is trying to bridge that gap. I have a friend who is exactly that, a young modern gamer, but he is also very analytical and critical of games. I asked him to give QC a try and just give me some of his impressions. I'll leave what he wrote here:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quake Champions critique

I was recently asked by a fan of Quake to give my view on why Quake Champions was struggling to attract new players and to retain the players it did attract. Having purchased the champions pack and played the game, I am not really surprised that the game is struggling to grow its player base. From the start of my experience with the game to the end, I ran into problem after problem that made me wonder why I wasn’t playing another FPS game that I enjoyed more than this game. Having said all that, I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the issues I found with the game and what I feel like potential solutions may be.

Visibility in the marketplace

Prior to being introduced to this game by an acquaintance, I had never heard of Quake Champions. I’d heard of Quake and Doom sure, but not QC. I asked people I play other FPS games with if they’d heard of it they also hadn’t. Perhaps the game is not being widely advertised during its pre-release phase and the developers will increase the advertising reach upon launch. Either way, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Tutorial

The opening sequence of the tutorial covers the basics of movement and the different types of pickups that can be found in the arenas, nothing particularly exciting. The main issue I have with the tutorial is that the weapons, their differences and their optimal use cases are so poorly covered. This seems like a major oversight considering that the use of these weapons is the core gameplay mechanic. This is most clearly exemplified by the shooting range which has the same target setup for each weapon. Perhaps more concerning than what the tutorial is teaching you poorly is what it doesn’t teach at all. Specialised movement mechanics are mysteriously missing from the tutorial, although more observant players will notice mention of these mechanics in the passive abilities of certain champions. Having said that, the abilities of champions, how to use them and how to charge them were also missing from the tutorial which seems kind of important for a game named “Champions”.

Queue Times

It’d be amiss of me not to mention just how bad the queue times are as an Australian player, but I do appreciate that I don’t get put onto high latency servers.

Gameplay

One of the most jarring experiences in the game is shooting at another player and having your weapon forcefully switched when you weren’t expecting it. Weapon swap on pickup is great when you deliberately step onto a weapon platform and really frustrating outside of that. I am aware that auto weapon swap is an option in the settings, but it’s on by default and rightfully so. There are however some changes I would make to the way auto weapon swap works. Firstly, if the player is currently firing their weapon the game shouldn’t auto swap. Too many times I have been waling backwards only to accidentaly step on a weapon pickup that requires a totally different aim style. Secondly, if a player already has the weapon in question, the game shouldn’t switch to it. If I already have it and I’m not already using it, chances are that there’s a reason for it. These changes should help newer players maintain better control over which weapon they’re using.
Speaking of controlling which weapon is being used, weapon management is a huge hurdle for a newer player to overcome. There are only two small UI changes I’d suggest as improvements. First, add the melee weapon the line-up on the right. Second, add the option to have the bound key for each weapon (1-8 by default). Together I think these changes would help new players switch to the weapon they want to use more efficiently.

A Sense of Pride and Accomplishment

As much of a meme as the phrase is, it’s important that players feel like they’re achieving something whilst playing. If the reward for the work is insufficient, then players are less inclined to continue to play. So, what is the payout in QC? Where is the sense of accomplishment? To be honest, I have no idea. Looking at competing FPS titles and where players get that satisfaction is a good place to start. In Overwatch the matches are centred around objectives. Completing those objectives is in my eyes a major source of that accomplishment. The next major sense of accomplishment is unlocking the cosmetic you’ve been working towards. So since, deathmatch and team deathmatch have no major objectives let’s look at Call of Duty. Call of Duty knows full well that TDM provides no real goal to work towards. So how does CoD provide that sense of accomplishment? Level restricted unlocks. Allowing players to level moderately quickly and gain small rewards for doing so means you’re never that far from the next little reward until you get to the “big” reward of prestiging before you do it all over again. So, what does QC provide? I would say nothing. In fact, it’s significantly worse than nothing because unless you put money into the game, you can’t even unlock champions permanently. As far as I can tell, there’s nothing to work towards in this game and that’s not good for player retention. It could be argued that the cosmetics you can unlock are something to work towards, but I don’t because… I Don’t Particularly Care About the Champions, And I’m not talking about their stats and abilities, because those do matter. What I’m talking about is the stories behind the champions. The champions are their own people, not avatars for the player. Despite this the entire character is condensed into their appearance and a handful of voice lines (selection, game start and respawn). I even tried to find out more about the champions in game, but the lore codex is locked behind random drops. If people don’t care about the characters, they won’t care about the cosmetics. Furthermore, it’s not even hinted at, let alone openly conveyed that the characters (or at least some of them) come from other games. If it wasn’t for Doom Slayer I wouldn’t have noticed because I haven’t played any of the games these characters are from and even having played QC I’m not particularly motivated to. If players care about the character they’re more likely to play the game the character is from. For examples of this, see Heroes of the Storm which I have no doubt has encouraged a lot of fans of one Blizzard game to at least try other Blizzard Games. Overall, the characters just seemed to be poorly expressed in QC.

Final Thoughts

There isn’t anything wrong with QC that can’t be fixed. Some of the issues are quick fixes and others will take major development work to be rectified. Having completed what I bought the game to accomplish it’s extremely unlikely that I’ll invest any more time into playing it until the progression system is revised and even then I would be hesitant to pick it back up. As for recommending it others, unless you’re particularly interested in an arena shooter I’d give it a miss until either it goes free to play or they fix the progression system.

Jordan Peterson (113 comments)
Posted by storm @ 04:02 CST, 22 January 2018 - iMsg
I was wondering what the general consensus on this forum is about Jordan Peterson.

"Life is tragic, says the provocative Jordan Peterson, and we are all capable of turning into monsters. But this hasn’t stopped millions from watching his online lectures."

"His YouTube videos have had 35m views. He is fast becoming the closest that academia has to a rock star"

Here are three recent interviews / articles about him, the channel 4 one being a very pivotal one where he would either be destroyed or come out a hero. He has literally hundreds of videos online. I personally find him very influential and in my opinion speaks the clearest truths about; personality, individuality, culture, politics.

An article about him in the Guardian (very good):
https://www.theguardian.com/global/2018/jan/2...-interview

Interview with Cathy Newman in the UK (she asks some tough questions):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54

Clip from his interview on Radio 5 where he actually sheds tears:

I realise his viewpoints get people very worked up! So please keep the conversation clean and considerate.

Quakecon results a complete joke? (48 comments)

I haven't seen any posts discussing this but thinking about how the lightning gun shaky aim exploit became public knowledge after Quakecon, but was obviously known about by certain players (I always wondered why Clawz shaft aim was so shaky up and down but came out accurate) doesn't this bring into question the legitimacy of the results of that tournament? Who knew about it and who didn't etc. Clawz hasn't been able to be as good since the patch etc. I wonder how Quakecon would have turned out without this exploit.

QC, Why no Fatal1ty? (77 comments)
Posted by storm @ 10:17 CST, 31 December 2017 - iMsg
I was just watching Thorins reflections with Fatality, hearing him say how he doesn't take part in tournaments unless there is a lot of money involved. Then I realized that I haven't heard anything about Fatality and QC anywhere, not even people asking the question, where is he? Surely QC caters to his tastes. He said he likes fast games, quick movement. His Painkiller days would have suited Anarki etc, and his Quake days would have helped with the rest. Then on top of that, the $1m tournament - surely that should have been enough to motivate him, plus his two biggest rivals being in the game etc.

Anyways, it just didn't make any sense to me. Can anyone shed any light on this? Has he commented on the game at all in social media?

Heya,

This only happens in Quake, all my other games are fine. Anyone have any suggestions?

A while ago I remember there being talks about a site refresh, with new styles available bringing the site to the 'modern era'. We all might be 'sitting pretty' here thinking that with the new Quake we'll automatically become the go-to site for all Quake related news: but this most likely won't happen. The site really needs that fresh new look, I can't remember exactly who was working on it - but please come back with the idea if possible.

Looking for high quality visual config (5 comments)
Posted by storm @ 04:58 CDT, 27 May 2016 - iMsg
Heya,

I'm looking for a high visual quality config that used to be available on the old VoodooExtreme site back in 99', it was made by Brett '3Fingers' Jacobs, it was designed for the 12mb Voodoo 2. I think he was the guy who made that 'crusher' timedemo map of 64 players in deathmatch for benchmarking.

Anyway, it seems it's completely lost to the internet and google isn't bringing up any results apart from dead links. Does anyone happen to have such an obscure config still laying around somewhere?

Thanks =)

If you go here: Whisper beta you can sign up for the desktop version, there is a waiting list but eventually you'll get access.

EDIT: As pointed out by Meph1stoo, https://tox.chat/ is actually much better and has more platform support.

Reflex Alpha Feedback (84 comments)
Posted by storm @ 02:44 CST, 6 January 2016 - iMsg
Right now Reflex has some issues. How the game times for you - it reduces the skill to pacman levels. Another issue is the rigid, horrible player models. I understand that they're robots, but why can't they move with some fluidity? it's like shooting at an ironing board. Also the size of the models doesn't seem right for the map geometry. They're just tall and rigid like boards.

Also when you get hit with some rocket splash damage - I hope they can stop it from paralyzing the player. It's like it bounces you up by 5 cm off the ground and you cannot move. You're basically dead if this happens, and because of the randomness of rocket splash it happens a lot. They could fix this by having the player model 'chipped up' in the direction that the rocket splash indicated, not just 90 degrees up in the air.

Also rocket splash is so weird. I know I shouldn't compare this to Quake, I do understand they're different games. But I really dislike how you can't rocket spam items to deter players from going for them. In QL if you rocket spam mega or RA, if an enemy jumps there they're basically fucked. In Reflex it's like the rockets just tickle, run in and run out. Grenades are similar to the rockets, you can spam the fuck out of someone on the floor but unless you magically hit a direct hit it literally does nothing. There needs to be a way to have effective suppression fire. Basically I think the projectiles are too weak and too fast, it's like using a pea shooter.

It would also be good to add some 'Ooomph' to the weapons. They feel so weak at the moment. Rockets should feel like you're shooting something powerful, lighting should feel like you're firing 9000 volts, rail feels like a deadly spear of doom. Right now it's all pea-shooter.

The game has a lot of potential.

The future of technology? (5 comments)

For years I never thought technology would make me go 'holy shit' or 'wow we're in the future' as much as how 4G has done. I literally cannot believe how much data can be sent over the air. I don't know about the EU right now but in Australia with it's terribly backwards internet 4G is like some kind of gift from god.

how is this kind of speed even possible? A few years ago we couldn't even achieve this kind of speed over copper wire, then suddenly BAM copper wire gets its fucking ass kicked like a one-punch man shot to the face.

Old games re-made? Is retro better? (48 comments)
Posted by storm @ 00:15 CST, 1 January 2016 - iMsg
I don't know if any other old-school gamers are similar, but I have a hard time enjoying modern games. I still have Quake 1/2, Unreal 1, Deus Ex and a few others installed. The last modern game I enjoyed and still play is Skyrim - because it still felt like an old-style game, where you're thrown in to the game and you're on your own. I'm even having trouble forcing myself to enjoy fallout.

I think it would be awesome if Epic re-created the original unreal inside the modern engine. Same basic gameplay but with amazing graphics. Maybe the PDA updates could be voiced as well as the text just to add a little more immersion. Imagine the Nali jungles with a modern engine, the vast alien landscapes. It could be completely free-flowing where you don't notice level changes etc. I can only dream... =)

I think that's the key. New games just don't get my imagination going. It's hard to feel any immersion because of all the spoon-feeding.

Aspect ratios in QL - UHD etc (10 comments)

I recently got an ultra wide 2560x1080 35'' monitor (acer predator z35) QL is working fine but the aspect ratio seems a little squashed, doorways aren't very high etc. At first I thought this was just an unavoidable aspect of the ultra-wide screen, but then I loaded up unreal (original unreal) and the aspect felt fine even with such an old game. The latest UT4 alpha feels fine, and so does Skyrim. But Quake feels squashed.

Any thoughts? Thx.

WOLFCAM: can you record while paused? (5 comments)

Hi there,

I need some help from some more experienced wolf-cammers. I'm specifically trying to record paused action for a particular scene I'm trying to record. I also need to be able to add camera points and pan around the scene.
I can't seem to get it to work though. I've tried adding camera points but they don't work unless the demo is playing. I then tried to record a demo of a paused demo to see if that would work, but it didn't.

There must be a way! Any advice much appreciated.

USB Mics in Windows 8/10 issues (4 comments)
Posted by storm @ 01:21 CST, 23 November 2015 - iMsg
Hello all,

Apparently there is a long running issue with (all?) USB mics since Windows 8 and now still in 10 where the recording volume is too low even when maxed out. A quick search on google shows hundreds of posts relating to it and all of them without solutions (except for the useless advice like 'turn it up duuhhh)
And does anyone know if there is a registry key I could add to force the mic boost option to appear for my mic?

Also just to add - people haven proven it is win 8/10 because they can install 7 and it's all fine. Even in a virtual machine. These mics don't use custom drivers, just plug and play.

Anyone else come across this?

But the sens in steam is 10x higher than the standalone version. Not just the sens, the accel is much more pronounced as well. So even if I lower the sens to 3 or 4, I have to lower the accel to something like 0.001 to get it to feel similar.

Anybody know about this? thx

Movie makers - HELP please :) (5 comments)
Posted by storm @ 23:45 CDT, 22 June 2015 - iMsg
Hey all,

I'm making a frag movie for someone at the moment, but I'm having trouble with the video format created by Wolfcam and Adobe Premier.

What happened: I started making the movie on Mac OS X. I upgraded to a really powerful gaming PC and decided to move the project across into my new Windows machine. I quickly noticed only the first 7 seconds of each clip would show up in the time line, the rest is grayed out.
I did a LOT of searching online, through google and forums. I finally found one answer: Use virtualdub to re-save every single clip. So that's what I did, I set up a batch routine to re-save every single file, it took ages.
Finally I opened up Premier to check, and bam! it was fixed. I did a lot more work, exported a new version with more footage etc, happy days.

or not... I left it a week or so, came back to it today and would you believe it? All the clips are back to 7 seconds long again. I have no idea why this is happening. Someone surely would have come across this before.

I hope someone can help, thanks.

edit: some more (maybe helpful) info. If I normally double click the files and open them in Media Player Classic, they only play 7 seconds. But if I load them in VLC, they play the full length. So this isn't a Premier specific issue it seems.

3D Combat? What is this.... (1 comment)
Posted by storm @ 21:53 CDT, 14 June 2015 - iMsg
Maybe you guys can help me out with what I'm trying to describe. The reason I really like vQ3 movement and physics / damage knockbacks etc is because it feels and reacts how I would expect them to. I don't know if this is due to me being so familiar with vq3 style. But when I play games based on cpm or Reflex style, everything feels so 'angular' and less three dimensional.

If you fire a rocket at the feet of an opponent in vq3, theres like 100 different ways that model is going to react...and it's all so subtle. Where as in cpm or Reflex, it kind of always chips you up in the air for an easy rail finish where you're powerless and feel helpless. Which makes it feel kind of limited, less subtle and 'angular' in my mind.

Does anyone else think about this in a similar way?

Yo,

Just letting you all know that I posted a reasonable non-abusive thread on the official Reflex forums, asking that they remove the in-game timer with good reasoning as to why I was asking.

There were quickly a whole lot of replies from other forum users agreeing with me, and I thought 'brilliant! the community is smart' I was thinking how great the developers were listening to the community and making improvements based on suggestions etc... Then......

My thread gets deleted.......

I don't have an exact copy of what I wrote, but from memory it was something like this "Please remove the in game timer. To be taken seriously as a competitive game it needs to be removed. Having this creates situations where players constantly rush items instead of thinking 'Okay my enemy has more armour, he's just fragged me, I'm not 100% sure of the RA time so I'll run the secondary items to stack back up' etc, all that strategic side of the game doesn't currently exist due to these timers.

Quake video settings feedback pls :) (11 comments)
Posted by storm @ 06:38 CDT, 17 April 2015 - iMsg
Heya,

I'd like to get some feedback on some Wolfcam graphics for a frag video. I have uploaded a test video on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD88GSGMNOg

Somenotes: I'm using wolfcam. Yes the greyscale map is on purpose, reason is 1. I like it, distinctive and 2. it's practical because player models stand out. Also - I'd like to increase the font size slightly for the 'fragged by' message but can't find the cvar. Anyone know? =)
Fov is 100.

Full critique is appreciated. I'll take anyone's advice and try and make the graphics suitable as possible. Also when it comes to bob / knockback etc, do movie makers like wntt (singularity/moopoint) have that on etc?

Edit: one more thing. Any advice on copyrighted music on YouTube? All gaming movie makers seem to get away with this but one of my old frag movies got removed & even after appealing it and adding fair use statements they still wouldn't allow it. I don't want to have this happen again so any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

edit: Changes as if 18/04 - - - - - - - - - - -
* Made team models redish/maroon colour as suggested by phylum
* Increased 'fragged by' message slightly
* verdict still out for B&W, I'll wait for more feedback

edit: I've disabled the greyscale & gone with a more standard look. I also lowered the bloom a lot.
I have started working on my project now, so won't be needing any more advice. Thanks for peoples input. Stay tuned.

What happened to 5v5 CTF? (16 comments)
Posted by storm @ 07:35 CDT, 4 April 2015 - iMsg
I recently got into a forum conversation on 4seasonsgaming (Australian community site) about what they want for an upcoming tournament. I voted for TDM, or CTF if they played 5v5. I have many great memories from playing in Barrysworld/Savage etc in the 5v5 format. Some people are very divided on which they prefer. I understand USA always did 4v4, and yet EU always did 5v5 (I know this might have something to do with community size) but interestingly Aus went from 5v5 to 4v4 over the years. I'm not sure what the EU uses currently as the main format.

Anyways... what do you prefer? 4v4 or 5v5? What are the main differences between them. What's more fun? What's more professional? Opinions!

Advice for QL config scripting please :) (22 comments)
Posted by storm @ 04:39 CST, 20 February 2015 - iMsg
Hiya,

I'm having some trouble scripting a zoom bind in my config to work properly. Basically it does work, but if I get fragged it thinks what ever weapon I pick up is in the railgun zoom mode (if I was fragged with railgun out) which gets me fragged when I'm constantly zooming with rockets. Hope that makes sense, basically the zoom script means if I press my railgun bind twice it zooms in / out.

Here is my bind cfg:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
seta weapon_1 "weapon 1; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_1" // gnt
seta weapon_2 "weapon 2; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_2" // mg
seta weapon_3 "weapon 3; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_1" // ssg
seta weapon_4 "weapon 4; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_1" // gl
seta weapon_5 "weapon 5; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_1" // rl
seta weapon_6 "weapon 6; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_3" // lg
seta weapon_7 "weapon 7; vstr rg_1; vstr ch_2" // rg
seta weapon_8 "weapon 8; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_1" // pls
seta weapon_14 "weapon 14; vstr rg_o; vstr ch_2" // hmg

seta ch_1 "cg_crosshairsize 24; cg_drawCrosshair 3; cg_crosshairColor 4"
seta ch_2 "cg_crosshairsize 24; cg_drawCrosshair 6; cg_crosshairColor 4"
seta ch_3 "cg_crosshairsize 24; cg_drawCrosshair 2; cg_crosshairColor 4"

seta rg_o "-zoom; bind r vstr weapon_7" // This binds my rail key to change weapon to rail, and is executed on each weapon (see below)
seta rg_1 "-zoom; bind r vstr rg_0" // This is executed once you've chose rail, and binds rail key to Zoom
seta rg_0 "+zoom; bind r vstr rg_1" // This is the zoom, and also binds my rail key to zoomout

// -- WEAPONS -- //
bind a "vstr weapon_1"
bind z "vstr weapon_2"
bind v "vstr weapon_3"
bind b "vstr weapon_4"
bind w "vstr weapon_5"
bind g "vstr weapon_6"
bind r "vstr weapon_7"
bind TAB "vstr weapon_8"
bind c "vstr weapon_14"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I heard there is a new system which is superior to 'vstrs' in QL but I don't understand them yet, I think they were called aliases? If anyone can help me out it'd be awesome. Thanks guyz.

btw ch_1/2/3 are crosshair vstr's, rg_1/1/0 are for the railgun zoom script.

Old mice appropriate for tournaments? (16 comments)
Posted by storm @ 20:04 CST, 13 January 2015 - iMsg
Before I start this isn't me bashing the hardware or anything, I was just thinking about how appropriate WMOs etc are for tournaments these days. For instance they need to have the USB port overclocked to 500hz to be usable, so from a LAN tournament organiser how does that look? A player emails you in advance and says that he needs to have custom hacked USB drivers to enable mouse performance, doesn't it seem a bit presumptuous to think that they might do that?

I guess I'm saying that using these mice can be risky, what if the organisers don't allow this kind of thing. Does that mean you don't enter the tournament? or are forced to use a different mouse etc.

Anyway yeah I was wondering what the reality of this is, and what other peoples thoughts are.

It IS possible to improve the Zowie FK (13 comments)
Posted by storm @ 22:10 CDT, 30 May 2014 - iMsg
I have the original Zowie FK (not 2014) I was happy with the mouse, except it's weird custom lens design which is meant to lower the LOD. Basically it collects dust like a magnet, the dust gets trapped inside. Then I found out you can actually open the mouse up, and detatch the weird angled lens part with a small screw driver. Then you get left with a Zowie FK and a standard lens, the ONLY difference is a slightly higher LOD by maybe 2mm. Still very low. But now I don't have any tracking issues due to dust in the lens. Hope this helps others.

Also if you want to give it a go, you don't need any guidance photos or anything (I didn't have any) the mouse comes apart really easily, the teflon feet re-attach really nicely. Even if you stuff your teflon feet up, you have a spare set that came with the mouse originally. Once inside, the trickiest bit is just looking at the lens and realising which part to snap off (It's designed to be removable, it comes off easily) But once you see it, it's really easy.

WMO 1.1a wtf? (40 comments)
Posted by storm @ 05:06 CST, 17 December 2013 - iMsg
I got a 1.1a out of curiosity, because it's apparently good. I say apparently.

my verdict: shit.

Why?

1. Cable - is a big fat worm-sized peice of sticky shit. It's so big and fat, and sticky, that it actually impedes mouse movement, it's like aiming in a swamp.

2. Buttons - so light it's almost unbelievable, you could breathe on them and they click. No joke - I tested dropping the mouse 1cm on to my mousepad, and the right click and left click both activated at once, by themselves. The mere force of dropping the mouse 1cm activates them.

This is mainly it. Someone tell me I'm using a dodgy ripoff version made in some back-room facility in Zimbabwe or something, because I cannot believe the two world champions of quake use this crap.

I got it from that 'reputable' person recommended on ESR which I read in: http://www.esreality.com/post/2494279/buy-real-wmos-where/
Last 4 digits are: 1142, looks legit.

Ok, thats my in-depth review.

Tell me if my abyssus is dodgey (11 comments)
Posted by storm @ 20:28 CDT, 24 March 2013 - iMsg
I noticed it goes jerky with 'very' slow movements. Here's the pic:

i.imgur.com/cQ0U2jD.png

I don't know if it's always been like this or not, I only started investigating after I saw a few other jitter posts.

450dpi, 500hz. Razer goliathus speed.

UPDATE:

I think I might have fixed it?

i.imgur.com/0ZpYQKN.png

I battered the crap out of the mouse mat to try and get any dust off it, then I took a cotton bud, stuck it in the hole and gave it a really good few twists against the lens. Now the small movements seem ok.

There seemed to be a lot of black stuff on the cotton bud afterwards. I wonder if this could solve other peoples abyssus jitter problems?

Cheating in CA comps? allowed? opinions! (47 comments)
Posted by storm @ 07:37 CDT, 26 August 2012 - iMsg
Hey,

Just putting this out there. Currently in Quakelive CA comps you can spectate outside of the players view during a clan match and 'ghost' the other team / player. So on team comms, you can tell your team where the opponent is.
In RA3 back in Q3, this didn't happen because spectator vision was locked on your own team, for the obvious reason (in my opinion) because 'ghosting' is a blatant form of cheating.

Now why do I want your opinions on this matter? because in a recent CA comp in Australia (4seasonsgaming) it came to light that some of the top teams were exploiting this. The admin of these particular games actually recorded the team chat of this team where they were definitely exploiting 'ghosting' to find the opponent position.

When the admin gave this evidence to the head admin (including text chat of the other team admitting what they did) he said that was fine, as 'ghosting' was not specified in the rules (but cheating is specified in the rules as not allowed) Interestingly enough, the head admins own team has admitted to 'ghosting' as well, kind of biased?

Now what I'm basically asking is, if enough people here think it's cheating then that will support the claims against these teams.

Discuss!

Q3 Tour shananigans (134 comments)
Posted by storm @ 20:40 CST, 25 March 2005 - iMsg
Myself and rage signed up as DC for this tourney hoping that it'd be something fun to do, but what happened neither of us expected.
Basically we were doing okish, working our way up out of the loser bracket. Our next opponents were aL.MSI (Satan and Mao), I know satan from my old tdm clan aNc and therefore assumed this would be quite a fun match.
Also this being the loser backet final, it was quite important so we went into it with high expectations.....

The game began and quickly I entered a state of shock regarding the kind of shots satan was pulling off on us, it was completely unbelievable. In all the years I've played this game, I have never ever encountered such an opponent, and it was even more shocking since I've seen satan play while I was in aNc and he was no where near as good.
At one point I disconnected, and then realising that I could be wrong and it'd be extremely lame to just quit I rejoined and continued the game.. giving aL the benefit of the doubt. But quickly the same things happened over and over again, untill I started confronting them about it.
Basically satan was saying how extremely shocked and depressed he was due to my accusations, and I started to think that maybe I was being paranoid. I'm not one to go around accusing things, but rage agreed with me completely that something odd was going on.
(Also I should point out that there was no GTV during our games)
We accepted defeat, and continued to watch their next match on GTV. It was quite obvious that aL werent really trying as hard against these opponents, this pointed out that obviously they dont want people on GTV noticing.

Satan *amazingly* sent me his demos to 'prove his innocence' which was rather odd, since after reviewing the demo's it became blatently obvious that he was using some kind of cheat.

http://www.defiance.org.uk/upload/storm/1stpa....42.13.zip
http://www.defiance.org.uk/upload/storm/2ndpa....51.19.zip
^ if anyones interested

I spoke to the admin immediatly, he was very suspicious about the demo's. I then showed them to a number of other people, and rage also asked IC-Fox to view them.
everyone agree'd.

fox said we could quote him here:
--------------------------
<SK|fox> hehe
<SK|fox> 100% sure he's cheating
<SK|fox> 5:38
<SK|fox> timescale 0.1 and zoom in
<SK|fox> the second plasma burst
<SK|fox> aimbot definitely
<rage_> hehehe
<SK|fox> no doubt in my mind
<SK|fox> :)
<rage_> owned :)
<rage_> thanks very much for the input
<rage_> it helps alot
<SK|fox> np
<rage_> mind if i can quote you sometime? if i have to
<SK|fox> go ahead
<SK|fox> paste all you want
<rage_> thanks man :)
--------------------------

and basically, all the admins (including the admin of a previous 1v1 cup that satan won, btourney i think) agree that hes using some sort of a wallhack/aimbot.
I'm glad that myself and rage didn't ignore this and just put it down to bad luck, many many q3 players have wasted their time in these tournaments due to satan and to be quite honest I think its despicable and displays a general lack of respect for any other players in these tournaments.

Personally I found this hard to believe myself, since I've known satan for over a year now. But I'm glad that what we did that day has made a big difference to many players out there who were cheated, while having the integrity not to question their opponent.

Signing off... a very tired storm.

(thanks to the admins dcm and Grave for taking the time to review demos etc, and all other players who supported us)
