Jason Padpork, the heroic pig of war, has gone through a complete visual makeover. The new player model has been created from scratch by Matteo Pignatelli and funded by the Warsow community. We believe the new model manages to better represent the character that Padpork is, and to bring the player model up to date with the modern advances in Warsows visuals.

As moving around in the world of Warsow is one of the key skills a player has to master, we concluded that improvements to the movement mechanics were due. The newly improved default movement makes it easier for new players to get a grip of the basics, while simultaneously allowing experienced Warsowians to even further express their art of movement. However, old school movement is still available as a possible movement style.

Localization support has arrived to Warsow. For a game played all around the world, we feel that language-independence is a welcome addition to the global audience of this fast-paced shooter. Warsow 1.5 ships with 11 community-translated localizations (in Russian, Japanese, French, Polish, Chinese, Dutch, Spanish, Hungarian, German, Italian and Finnish), and there are many more to come. Warsow 1.5 automatically detects the language of your operating system and uses the localization of that language whenever available. In addition to a whole new Padpork, Warsow 1.5 also introduces other beautiful changes to the games visuals. The latest installment of our qfusion engine supports FXAA, a fast and powerful anti-aliasing method which can improve image quality when hardware anti-aliasing methods like MSAA or CSAA are not available or affordable.

Le dream on, the extremely popular duel map known to many as wdm2, has gone through a major facelift with stunning new textures and added details. Additionally, the improved qfusion engine introduces beautiful soft particle effects to explosions and halo shaders.

There are many cool things happening in the world of Linux gaming, and Warsow 1.5 is one of them. We have taken great care to make our latest release run smoothly on the open source radeon drivers, the input code utilizes XInput2, and our shipped binaries are fully compatible with Ubuntu 14.04 and Debian Wheezy.

Server hosts will be happy to hear that 1.5 features a built-in HTTP server that significantly simplifies map downloads by removing the need to serve downloadable files through mirrors.

"On the 28th and 29th of June, thousands of fans from around the world will gather in a football stadium filled to watch the very best compete in one game - Dota 2. The Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Germany, will be transformed into a haven for Dota 2 fans from all over the world. The eight best teams in the world will fight it out for a prize pool of US $150,000, set to be increased by community funding through an in-game compendium.

The eight teams will be made up of two invited teams Alliance and Natus Vincere, The International 3 finalists, along with six more teams from all around the world. Three of these will be attending from Europe, two more from Asia and the last slot belonging to America. These six teams will have to make their way through very difficult qualifiers and defeat the best in the world to earn their position at ESL One Frankfurt."

X-LEAGUE SEASON 1 (46 comments)

Hello Quakers, we would like to bring forward the first season of the X-League. The X-League will be the first genuine Cross-Atlantic League in CPMa. It will be a Draft Style, 4v4 CTF league. The idea behind this league is to integrate the teams to represent both European, and North American players.

Rules!

Please read the rules and if you have any questions contact Kwong:

1. This will be a league spread out over several weeks, the exact number of weeks will depend on the amount of sign-ups.

2. All League matches will be played on Sunday in the given week, times will be posted when finalized.

3. All league matches will be a Best of Two (BO2).

4. All league matches will be played on both European, and North American servers.

5. All teams MUST draft a minimum of one (1) player from the opposite region.

6. All teams MUST play a minimum of one (1) player from the opposite region per map. For example, one North American player must play on a European Server, and vice-versa.

7. Each week a map will be selected as the Map Of The Week. The teams will then play that specified map twice once on an EU server and then on a NA server. The combined scores from the two (2) games will be added together to produce a winner of the match. To illustrate this, please look at this example: It is Team A vs. Team B, Team A wins 3-2 on the European server, Team B wins 4-0 on North American server. Team B would win by a score of 6-3. However, TIES CAN OCCUR, say for example if Team A wins 3-2 on European server, and Team B wins 3-2 on North American server. The teams would TIED 5-5.

8. Standings will be updated weekly, Three Points (3) are awarded given for a win. One Point (1) for a tie. Zero Points(0) for a loss.

9. Once again, I will repeat that ALL MATCHES will be played on both servers. If you draft only euros with 1 North America player, be prepared to play with 3 players, with 100+ ping, on the North American server.

10. The servers used for pickups in both region,s or the closest servers geographically between Europe and North American will be used, that is, Europeans will not be forced to play on South-Central, or Western servers, and North American players will not be forced to play on Russian servers.

Playoffs: At the end of the regular season the top four teams will play in a single elimination, playoff bracket in order to determine the Season One Winner of the X-League.

Cheating: All forms of cheating (aimhack, wallhack, aliasing) are prohibited, and will result in an immediate ban, and replacement.

Rule Interpretation: Admins have final say over the interpretation of the rules, and can unilaterally enforce a course of action if it has not been explicitly covered in the rules.

We will however not be changing the map pools until next week just to maintain consistency with the weekly cups, so look for all new maps for next week if you want to see a specific map in a pool let me know.

A blast from the past..

For the past decade there has not been a competition within UT1 with any prizepool. That is set to change as of this weekend.

A duel cup is being hosted by sas^bleh- over on GlobalUnreal and the prize fund currently stands at €250. The prizepool will be split as follows:

1st Place 70%
2nd Place 20%
3rd Place 10%

This post is not to attract any more signups as they close as of 12PM (Midday) Sunday 27/4/2014 (the more the merrier though!) it is to let people know the event will be happening and hopefully to attract some of the old folks who used to share our love for this game to tune in to some of the coverage over the next few weeks.

We have a great coverage team with m3ss and hypno set to cover as much of the final stages of this competition on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/m3ssed2impr3ss).

That is not to say anyone who sees this can't still signup. There is a very wide skill set across the current signup list, and the bracket will take a double elimination format. There are some new public servers for Duel and TDM gametypes too hosted at #Globalunreal.eu on QuakeNet.
