Finding the best CSGO gambling sites in 2019 is not that easy. CSGO gambling has had a chequered past to say the least, with many sites being shut down and penalised because of illegal activity.

There is clearly a demand among some Counter-Strike lovers to bet on their favourite game but for the sector to be sustainable long-term, CSGO gambling sites must comply with the laws - primarily for the safety and security of esports fans but also for the sake of themselves.

#spontanctf reopens (22 comments)
Posted by Insaccato @ 11:00 CST, 18 February 2016 - iMsg
Last time #spontanctf had a pickup running it wasn't even in this decade. Hopefully things are about to change as #spontanctf is being revived by a few enthusiastic individuals that just refuse to accept the current state of CTF scene in Quake Live. Let's face it, CTF is dead as it gets. There's mods that are being played and then there's CTF. Things are unlikely to change but you can always try and do your best and hopefully something good comes out of it.

Hopefully all you guys that used to play CTF pickups will give it another shot, along with the people who never played a pickup and just stuck to the pubs. Something can be done, CTF can gain some momentum and while it never will be as big as it was in early days of QL, it can still become an active scene in QL terms.

FAQ:

Can't wait to see you in #spontanctf!

Russia VVD decided to run another season of the 1v1 Thunderdome series. To counter the common prejudice of QW players being conservative hillbillies and based on scientific evidence he even added a new map (bravadob5) to the pool!

The signups are open from now on.

Digital games market recap 2015 (39 comments)
Posted by viaIImaximus @ 15:41 CST, 16 February 2016 - iMsg
SuperData Research has released a report on worldwide digital games sales for the year 2015. The market was valued at $61B across all platforms being PC, mobile and consoles. Since we are mostly a PC oriented community I will be focusing on the Top 10 grossing PC games listing.

The top grossing PC game of the year 2015 was League of Legends from Riot games with a staggering $1.6B, the runner up being CrossFire with $1.11B while the third place is reserved for Dungeon Fighter Online with $1.05B. What is really interesting about these three is their strong markets are South Korea and China since in Europe these games are not very popular with LoL being obviously the exception here.

Another surprise from the list is actually coming from the 4th place where World of Warcraft has positioned itself with its $814 million revenue. It is impressive that a game released back in 2004/2005 still holds those strong figures; it just goes to show that keeping your game alive with new content and decent support really pays off in the long run. Interestingly enough DOTA2 has placed itself on the 8th place with $238 million which is 7 times less than its main rival, League of Legends.

What this report has shown, in addition to aforementioned figures, is that the PC master race definitely rules the digital gaming industry. With its $6.3B in PC games sales compared to the $2.1B for consoles, this marks the ending in the everlasting battle of PC vs consoles.

Check the entire Top 10 grossing games of 2015 for PC, mobile and consoles.

22 Reasons to Love DOOM - Part 1, 2 & 3 (67 comments)
Posted by viaIImaximus @ 15:35 CST, 15 February 2016 - iMsg
Continuing on the hype that seems to be picking up rapidly, bethesda.net is releasing a three part article explaining in detail 22 reasons to love the new and upcoming DOOM game.

In this, first part, the article focuses on the weapons, the characters, the demons and the teams behind DOOM development. The article also includes an in-game animation of a "Glory Kill" (looks awesome!) which is a new feature for a DOOM game, also a couple of screenshots from the game and artwork.

A few words from project leaders and their look upon previous DOOM's history and moments of glory are also cited.
"It adds a great deal of pressure because we aim to repeat history and reintroduce DOOM into pop culture again as well as revitalize the franchise. It’s a tall order that requires true teamwork. We push ourselves technically, and we are always learning new processes to improve art.” says the Environment Lead Lear Darocy.
DOOM is set to be released this spring so get on board of the hype train and get some Love!

EDIT: Part 2 available!

EDIT2: Part 3 available!

I'll be updating this post as each part gets released.

Quake Live in numbers - Steamspy 2016 (51 comments)
Posted by viaIImaximus @ 14:04 CST, 15 February 2016 - iMsg
Roughly a year ago Aquashark posted Steam statistics concerning Quake Live sales and player numbers in this post.

Now it is time to revise those numbers and compare them to the current data but this time from the steamspy website. Steamspy uses the basis of Steam Gauge but the stats are updated daily and there are some interesting features like YouTube and Twitch views, concurrent players, playtime in the last 2 weeks, just to name a few.

The old stats from March 2015:
Quake Live on a surprising #15 spot (1,749,338 owners; 891,236 players; 3,631,170 total hours played)
Current February 2016 stats are as follows:
Owners: 2,577,722 ± 36,740
Players total: 1,331,331 ± 26,462 (51.65%)
A few notes about Owners and Players. The number of "Owners" states how many Steam user profiles have Quake Live on it. It doesn't represent the true sales as the game could be acquired either through giveaways or gifts, promotions etc. On the other hand "Players" mark the number of Steam user profiles who have started the game and played it for at least six minutes.

We can certainly detect an increase in numbers but do we actually notice it? See all Quake Live related data, visit the steamspy website.

Business of eSports Panel 2014 (18 comments)
Posted by viaIImaximus @ 12:46 CST, 14 February 2016 - iMsg
When it comes to eSports this site has mainly been covering the games themselves, Quake being at the forefront. But eSports is becoming a lot more than a "game" someone is competing in, be it offline or online, at an event or tournament. Stepping back and looking at eSports you will notice there is a lot more to it and most notably it's becoming a business.

Red Bull eSports did an interesting live panel concerning the business aspect of eSports at the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies in Washington, D.C. The panel was moderated by Sean "Day[9]" Plott with special guest panelists Chris Radtke (Ziff Davis), Ben Goldhaber (twitchTwitch) and Rod "Slasher" Breslau (former ESReality journalist). Topics range from, where the money comes from, business models, jobs and roles in eSports, presentation of 'numbers' and many more, these just being the basics. The guests give insight with their own experiences and opinions on the subject with some general advice on business itself.

The panel is divided in 5 parts on YouTube YouTube and is about a 100 minutes long altogether. Some interesting points being, speakers mentioning Quake as their eSport game and furthermore "Slasher" mentioning ESReality as the start of his career as a journalist.

Business of eSports Panel w/ Day 9

Part 1 - Topic: Business model
Part 2 - Topic: Where the money is coming from
Part 3 - Topic: Jobs and roles in eSports; Slasher mentions ESR @ 13:13 mark :)
Part 4 - Topic: Presentation of 'numbers' and getting funding/sponsors
Part 5 - Questions from the audience

Even though being a year and a half old now, still some valuable information was presented at the panel and I strongly suggest it to anyone, even remotely interested in this side of eSports to, well, watch it.
