"Doom is now twenty-two years old and shows no sign of slowing down. Gameplay modders, map authors, musicians, coders, and more continue to trickle in to an aged yet vibrant community. It's the best damn custom content community out there, and I'm not just counting Doomworld. If you're interacting with Doom in almost any capacity, I'd like to thank you for keeping the spirit alive, and for giving me a reason to stay on and help author the twelfth annual Cacowards. Along with the rest of the crew, we called up TerminusEst13, because us claiming any sort of authoritative knowledge about the Doom gameplay mod scene would be a statement made out of boundless egotism... not that we're that much more qualified to speak of everything else.

One of the coolest things to happen this year didn't have anything to do with Doom directly, but it's a Doom engine game, and it involved a few very cool Doom community members. Kaiser, Quasar, and ptoing helped to kick this season off with the re-release of Strife called the Veteran Edition, a game that used to be one of the poster children for cases against abandonware. While there were a number of additions like dynamic lighting and bloom, not to mention a secret quest, the original IWAD is still distributed in the package for historical sticklers. Perhaps, some day, we'll see some sort of re-release of Perdition's Gate and Hell to Pay?

That isn't the only white whale that the community managed to slay, though. 2015 also saw the release of the mythical GPL-compliant iteration of GZDoom, codename GLOOME, opening up the highly modified id Tech 1 engine as a potential base for indie developers. Alternatively, if GLOOME so offends you, there's plain ol' GZDoom-GPL. I also joked about Erik Alm coming back to the community, but it looks like the Doomworld Megawad Club's playthrough of Scythe 2 was just the ritual required to get him to poke his head back in. Another prediction I made was that 2015 was going to be a real blood tornado, and while it's great to have a year that's chock full of fantastic releases to play, that doesn't make it any easier. Of the four years I've been writing the Cacowards, this has been by far the hardest. Hearts will be broken; I assure you that it hurt us more to make them than it will hurt you to read them.

Ty Halderman was an inarguable essential pillar of the community, a fixture so taken for granted that his absence was only felt when it became clear that the /idgames archives were not being updated with his usual clockwork regularity. It was a practice he continued even after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, until he could literally Do No More. He passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 31st. May he rest in peace."

Last Monday, the HoQ TDM Fall 2015 league saw its final match played! The time has now come to release the rankings for the three divisions.

But first, all the VODs should be available on Plus Forward (please point out if there are missing ones). Also, just a few spec demos are on ESReality. We hope some players will come forward and upload some more demos.

Last round for CA Fall 2015 season will be played Thursday 14:00 CST, 10 December 2015. For teams that have multiple games scheduled at the same time, we will have deadline for Sunday 15:00 CST, 13 December 2015. After deadline all matches will be closed and cup will be finished.

Really not finished properly but I feel it's good/ok and worth uploading nonetheless for posterity. Highlights from many games of Quake Live. Lost a few files so uploading as this. Had to free up disk space and was gonna move on to something else but watched this back and thought it was kinda nice. At least it's seen not just by me. Remembering PQL CTF over 2014/2015 on MissRocketBunny (FairyCake) and Kwizach servers. Sorry I didn't finish it.

Warsow 2.0 has been released after a year-and-a-half of continuous development, and multiple community betas. Listing all the changes and improvements, numbering over 150, featured in the release would take too much space and time.

General:
+ Switched to Creative Commons license for media assets.
+ Added full out-of-the-box gamepad support (XInput on Windows, SDL on Linux and OS X).
+ The engine automatically lowers the frame rate to 24 FPS and enables sleep state when the game is minimized.
+ Multi-threading improvements for the following; fixed race conditions, reduced latency and the amount of context switches.
+ .pk3 files explicitly named as "pure" are now preferred to different .pk3 files.
+ Restricted downloads of binary modules and "pure" content to official Warsow web mirror.
+ Greatly reduced memory footprint for fonts (especially for CJK).

Gameplay:

Linux:

NOTE: versions prior to SDL2 suffer from doubled mouse sensitivity. This is expected to be fixed in SDL 2.0.4.
+ ALT+Tab works now.
+ Keyboard input doesn't steal the whole system focus.
+ The game now respects system keyboard layout.
+ Switched over to dynamic linking for support libraries.

Windows:
+ The window can be minimized when the game is running in windowed mode.
+ ALT+F4 works again.
+ The UI now respects system DPI settings.
+ Added support for Japanese and Korean input to the chat.

SDK:
+ Added NetRadiant and Q3Map2 with KTX texture format support, older versions won't load the textures properly.
+ Added .map files and models for all stock maps.
+ Added source files for textures and models.
+ Switched to cmake as the unified build system for C/C++ code.
+ Added Dockerfiles for cross-compilation.
+ Added debian meta-package to install all engine dependencies.
+ Updated to AngelScript 2.29.2.

The catch up round of the TDM league is already well started, and just six matches are left to be played.

Three of them will be played this monday evening, including the Div1 decider for the 2nd rank:

Deliberate Murder vs

REKT. Also, tonight's the night for

WORLDSTAR with two matches. They should be getting into the top3, and possibly the 2nd rank if they can defeat

dioxide!

On Tuesday evening, the

Hateful Eight should confirm their top rank in div3 against

Dretwe Lamy. Somehow,

ashlen decided to let their chance slip away and gave Hateful Eight a default win last week. Also

last pick will face the

p1mps and aim for a 4th consecutive win.

Finally, the last Div2 match between

dioxide and

last pick, which should be the decider for Div2 first rank, will be played next monday, 7th of December.

All the results of the previous matches are available. Also we have some VODs and spec demos.
