QuakeCon 2011 After Action Blog (48 comments)
Posted by GreasedScotsman @ 16:03 CDT, 19 August 2011 - iMsg
Hey folks. United States of America GreasedScotsman here. After the successful planning, management and production of QuakeCon 2011 coverage, I've decided to take a break from broadcasting for the next month or so, perhaps longer, though I may reappear for special events like 2GD's World Tour (described during OneMoreGame/LiveOnThree 08-03-11).

QuakeCon 2011 was an amazing adventure. Thirteen people were responsible for the production and coverage. After last year's clusterfuck where we stepped up to the plate after expecting to play a secondary role to LiveOnThree, lacking equipment and time to plan anything, we knew we had much to prove.

We made a conscious decision to not hype up what we had planned and we chose to not go as "QLTV" but as the "QuakeCon Coverage crew." In hindsight, I know a lot of people literally missed the live stream because of this lack of press. Thankfully, though, we have 720p VODs available on YouTube of all of our content.

WinFakt interviews spart1e (9 comments)
Posted by gribouts @ 15:53 CDT, 15 August 2011 - iMsg
Given his recent great performance at QuakeCon 2011, WinFakt wanted to take some time with Sweden Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira for an interview. He gives some insight about how the tournament was from a player's point of view, discusses about his performance in duel and TDM, as well as a bit about his future in online gaming.

Here is an excerpt:
Before we talk some more about your performance in TDM, I'd like us to go back to this match versus CZM. Did you expect him to be such in a good shape for this event ?
No, I really did not. It was a tough tournament. I think some players really underperformed, and few played better than expected. I didn´t see rest of czms games. But against me he made some nice moves, which worked several times because I made really bad mistakes over and over again.

QuakeCon 2011 Demos and VODs (67 comments)
Posted by xou @ 04:52 CDT, 9 August 2011 - iMsg
Only a few days after the end of the action, United States of America GreasedScotsman has made available all the demos collected from the QuakeCon 2011 Quakelive Duel and TDM tournaments. For now, they're not on the official website, but on Belgium Trance's webspace along with plenty of other events' demos.

Also, the man from Quake-Live.tv started to upload the official VODs on the YouTube channel of the 2011 convention. All of them should be available tonight.

I prepared a coverage post with all the duel and TDM results with links to the demos and known VODs (no result spoilers). And also some more links to galleries and interviews.

Thanks to the QuakeCon 2011 staff and the streaming staff for the good coverage!

Lo3 #82 QuakeCon Preview with 2GD (83 comments)
Posted by Slasher @ 17:15 CDT, 3 August 2011 - iMsg
Scheduled: 18:00 CDT, 3 August 2011 to 21:00 CDT, 3 August 2011
Schedule: Passed

LiveOnThree is hosted by United States of America Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham, United States of America Rod "Slasher" Breslau & United States of America Scott "SirScoots" Smith.

Live On Three #82 will recap what was the most momentous, passionate, and pure largest weekend in eSports/Competitive Gaming history with the EVO 2011 World Finals, MLG Anaheim, and the GSL July finals. As was expected by many, Korea dominated MLG, Japan won Arcade Edition at EVO (though America stepped up), and the GSL finals was another 4-0 sweep. We examine why all of this happened and if the American/Foreign players for Starcraft 2 and Fighting Games will be on notice from these events and work harder, or continue to fluster when it comes to playing fierce competition. EVO official streamer United States of America Victor "Spooky" Fontanez will join the show to discuss all of the weekend's events in Marvel vs Capcom 3, SSF4AE, Mortal Kombat 9, and how it felt to stream EVO for the very first time.

We will preview QuakeCon 2011, in what might be the last major Quake tournament for some time, with fascinating individual United Kingdom 2GD. Predictions of the groups including if Sweden tox can win it all in his first tournament back, will Belarus Cypher easily take it instead, or can United States of America rapha retain his throne as the greatest Quake Live player ever? Also thoughts on the Facebook vote, the stream and his new casting partner, and his time on the MLG cast.

Tune in tonight at 7:00 PM ET/01:00 CET!

Before Australia Peter "Ventz" Kidson and Timothy "zlr" Shey set off to QuakeCon 2011 in Dallas, TX, they kindly dedicated some time out from practicing to answer a few questions for us. This interview was conducted before the most recent Quakecon announcement about the voting system for play offs, so unfortunately this question was excluded in the Interview.

QuakeCon 2011 - Duel Group Advancement (288 comments)
Posted by SyncError @ 15:54 CDT, 29 July 2011 - iMsg
24 players will be entering the Group Stage of the QC11 Duel Masters, 16 of which will advance to the Playoffs. Of our 6 groups of 4, the top 2 competitors from each group secure their place in the Playoff Bracket.

From the twelve competitors that did not advance, 4 players will be chosen. Not by stats, not by the admins, nor by random choice -- 4 players will be chosen by the community via Facebook. Our "Community Choice Award Poll" will become available shortly after Group Stages conclude at 17:30 CDT, 4 August 2011.

Cast your vote for your favorite player, someone who impressed you despite losing groups, a fan favorite top seed that fell in an upset, your friend. If you are one of these twelve players, feel free to use the polling time to drum up support and encourage others to vote your way to the Playoffs.

Unconventional for tournaments? Yes. Gimmicky, sure. But we hope that allowing the community to have some say in who gets to compete all while generating more gameplay in the Playoffs can only be a positive thing.

We hope everyone has an opportunity to follow the streams, and come time cast their vote.

Update: Monitors for the QL tournaments will be provided by Alienware with the Alienware OptX AW2310 120hz (See this post).
